  6. Is Michelle Bachman the republican version of Joe Biden?

  7. i have a semi good friend who practices EMS law in Missouri. I think I will put it to him as well. He's represented many of the largest EMS systems in the Missouri area. If anyone will know what Missouri law says, he will. This is really a question that begs to be answered. I'll let you know what this guy says.
  8. yes, there is one idea that has been out there. Just don't accept health insurance. Be a concierge doctor to your patients who can afford to pay you your rate. Sometimes those rates are lower. i was uninsured a couple of years ago, I had an agreement with a doctor's office that I would pay cash. My doctor had a flat 50.00 fee for me to come see him. If he drew labs, he would charge me 5.00 over cost of the lab. EKG was 25.00 over cost. A single office visit would cost me no more than 100.00 Often discussing cash prior to being seen in the doctor's office can get you better deals than even the insurance companies get.
  9. if you do a search for the band on You tube, they have other videos but not as good as this one. I don't have enough free time to even do that over a 10 year period. I wish I did but then life would just throw more stuff at me. Life has a way to fill up your free time. remember, nothing is free!!!!
  10. He might be wrong, but he might be right. I don't know. I just know that I'm not a lawyer and I would defer to his legal judgement. but you are right in your statement on that it won't make me do anything different in helping out. And I have helped out in a plane, several times, and have indeed taken a free drink or moved to the empty seat in first class. if I'm travelling on a plane and someone needs me, I'll help. If they offer me a gift of extra drinks (I don't drink alcohol) or a move to first class, I'm going to accept. But it's good that this doesn't happen all the time to me, but in the 1000 or so flights I've taken in the past 10 years, I've only had to help out a grand total of 6 times.
  11. Number 2 I can speak to. If you perform your duties on a plane and get no perks out of it, then yes it's Good Sam. But if the airline gives you free flights, free alcohol/food or upgrades you to first class let's say(but that never happens because First class is always full due to the high status flyers being upgraded) then yes you fall out of Good Sam's protections. I asked a Missouri attorney about this and that is what he told me. You only fall out of Good Sam's protection if you accept the perks.
  12. I had read somewhere that of 100 drugs being researched that only about 10 get approved if even that number. I do not begrudge the pharmaceutical industry making money on their investment, it's no different than Lego making huge amounts of money by selling their product, except Lego isn't needed for your health. i think that's where the public and news media has their knickers in a bunch on the cost of medications. I think the public thinks that because it's for their health and it keeps them well that they shouldn't have to pay the high price of the drug. That pharmaceutical companies should provide the drug for a discount. If the ER's free then why can't the drug be free? that sort of mindset. I take metformin, Insulin, Gemfibrozil, aspirin and allopurinol. All this for a monthly copay of 125.00 I would pay the full price if needed because this is what is keeping my blood sugar in check and my body somewhat healthy.

And it is written with only one "s", by the way ("Hase"=rabbit, "Pfeffer"=pepper, never came across this meal, though).

Thank you for the first Bugs Bunny Cartoon since years...far better as this stuff my little one watches on TV nowadays. :)

  15. But seriously here, if you as a responder can't read the AED which I believe has the big words on it which are Trainer or the patches have training patches on them then maybe we should be thinking of another career where reading is not a requirement. If my memory serves me correctly, the training AED's we've had have all had the words Trainer on them. Maybe other places do not have those words on them.
  16. I have the munchies. off to the convenience store for chips and candy. Maybe some pie too.
  17. There would be some good lessons learned from your experiment Doc. It might prove one right over the other or might prove that a hybrid plan would be best. I have the perfect company to do this study. I'll give them a email and see if they might be interested. It's all about transforming care with the least amount of disruption to patients, doctors, employers and payors/patients as possible.
  18. People will still call 911 and they will be treated. People will still go to the ER and still be treated Deny deny deny all you want, the people who are falling through the safety net of health insurance will always be treated at the ED. What happens after the ED then that's where it gets sticky. and yes, the tea party and other parties do indeed think about cutting EMS funding. It's the next logical course, you have cut funding to hospitals, cut funding to doctors, cut funding to nursing homes to where my family paid 7500 per month to a nursing home to take care of my grandmother. the next logical choice of any party and choosing cuts will be to ambulance services. the big question I have on this line is this. Will the cuts be so drastic or draconian that it will force those who are currently providing EMS care into the Arms of the Fire department or the couple of conglomerates. I know that my wife's last bill from a local fire department ambulance service was 1600 bucks. We are insured so insurance covered part of it but not all of it. Thank goodness for insurance. Does healthcare need reform, YES, but not at the expense of the doctors and hospitals who bear the brunt of the cuts and are already paying for uninsured patients. I have always argued for fair across the board cuts in services. Seriously, how much does it really cost for you to put in an IV? I can tell you. The ER bill my wife got was that her IV fee's/costs were around 225.00 Doing missed charges for a small ER the bag of IV fluid costs around .45 cents for the bag, the IV supplies cost an additional 12 or so dollars. So how do you justify a 212.50 profit over the cost of supplies? Just an example. Two darvocet n-100 cost at the hospital is around 2 dollars. The cost to the patient is 47.00 or so. Again a 45 dollar profit. I'm sure that others have examples. I know hospitals have HUGE operating costs, management costs and such but this is where people get really pissed off. I know of a CNIO in a florida hospital is paid a high 6 figure salary. The CEO is paid a high 6 figure salary. The director of nursing is paid at one hospital 120K. I know that you have to attract the best talent but a high 6 figure salary is a bit much. And don't even get me started on my line of work. What I cost the hospitals is amazing and absurd if you ask me. I have an entire list of how to save hospitals and EMS systems lots and lots of money on consulting fees.
  19. Ran 1.30 miles tonight. Can't wait for wednesdays run. 1.5 miles. Yay

  21. Thanks to the expedia commercial, I now hate and I mean hate the name Anandra. At one time I actually liked it. Major bummer factor.

  22. I think that every religion, race and creed has bad apples. Not every muslim is a terrorist, not every white guy is a serial killer or pedophile. Not every christian is a crusader For every bad deed that past religions and societies have done, do we need to provide reparations for those acts? Apologies? Yep. reparations no. Unfortunately there have been terrible things done in the name of religion and Christianity is right up there at the top but that's not really the case anymore. I don't see an apology any time soon. I tend to like to look forward and not dwell on the past. It's counterproductive at times. Remember the past, make sure the past doesn't come back in a new guise and be ever vigilent. AK, CH, Dwayne, Dust and many others have lived in those communities and amongst the Muslims and I can't share a common frame of reference so I defer to their comments. But to lump in all muslims as terrorists is simply stupid and ludicrous. Even a pure bread white guy can understand that.
  23. Gosh this chiefs team sucks. Another interception thrown. I see another touchdown in the Bills future.
