First off I'm not asking anyone to apologize for their posts. All I was pointing out was that this has gone on long enough, the pointless name calling on both sides was getting tiresome. Sure he's a Troll but once he was called out and exposed for all to see should have been the end of it but most on this thread continued to either go after this guy or Lifeguard continued to post in order to keep this discussion going. I don't ask you to apologize for how you responded. And I disagree with you that NOBODY likes to argue with trolls, I know a lot of people who find it fun to go after trolls. What does worry me is the statement from Lifeguard that one of our members went to the provincial authority about this guy or something to that effect. Was it true, I don't know but to go to that extent to prove this guy wrong or to get information about him or the situation seems a little extreme. I don't know if this truly happened or if Lifeguard made it up. I can't say. Well, I guess I'm done with my responses to this thread. I think we should let this thread die a quick and painless death and go on to the next troll when they appear.

I will echo Mobey's sentiment. The screen name that you chose is immature. The capitalization makes it plainly clear to me and probably others that your maturity and professionalism is somewhat in question. Please prove me wrong. I would PM admin and ask for a user name change. I hope you have good input as that will help mitigate what your screen name blatantly points out.

I totally agree on the outing of trolls. But what got me disappointed by this group was the name calling and the severely negative responses by some of our most veteran members. We are more professional than this and once this guy was outed as a troll that should have been the end of it but some I truly believe took pleasure in being as nasty as they could be to this poster. Even though he has not proven himself respectable in any way here we had members who for lack of a better word "tore him a new one". I thought we were more professional on this forum than that. I do have to give the guy props - he did keep coming back for more. Masochistic, maybe Smart - not really

Yeah the graphic wasn't clear on that. But seriously - if you have a very hairy guy, just go directly to the razor. It's quicker and if you have electric clippers you can clear the hair pretty quick, about 3-4 seconds. I think the graphic needs to be updated to say to use a new pad if it's covered in hair.
-
Well someone had to say it. I normally don't feed the trolls or continue the argument but this was just a name calling fest and it was counterproductive to any good dialogue.
-
Just went to the diagram and I have a question For chest hair - you are dealing with a lot of hair and you pull the pad off and it removes a bunch of hair. What do you do with the hairy patch now? Do you put it back on the chest or put a new set of pads on? if you put the pad back on with all the hair wouldn't you still have the hair problem?

Of course I did because no one else has said anything about this going on for too long.

Ok, this has gone on long enough and is really starting to become boring and insulting to people who might come here as visitors and then go away shaking their heads in disbelief that we have people on here who are not mature enough to stop flaming and slamming the next person. It's like the old deal where each person has to one-up the next and it never ends. I have finally gotten my notifications to come over on email for topics I've subscribed to and reading these attacks from both sides is just dis-heartening. If you stop feeding the argument it will stop.

Don't get me wrong, retention is incredibly important but if there are some in your agency that won't be back based just on not getting that ticket then seriously, are they 3 year olds or adults? I also agree with dwayne though. If the community doesn't value its ems (free) then maybe it is time to re-evaluate things. I don't agree with a walkout but who knows. I know something about retention. One service I worked for would give out 1000 dollar bonuses at christmas. They did away with that and it cost them 2 employees. 2 people quit over the cessation of bonuses. They got jobs that didn't give out bonuses so I'm not sure what they gained in the end. How much are these tickets? How many people are we talking about? Contact me offline. Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

ok, I have a question. You say that some of your EMT's will not be back next year if they don't get a free ticket to the lights deal? Forgive me if I sound incredulous but REALLY? NOt coming back because they didn't get a thank you? I wouldn't want them working for me or volunteering for me if all that is keeping them on board is a free ticket to an event. NOw I really hope you either mistated or I mis-read. We have a number of first responder volunteer agencies around here that get nothing in terms of tangible items as thanks so you are not alone. The hospital I used to work for would put on an EMS dinner and I'm not sure if this is happening again this year but this shouldn't be the reason why your guys volunteer, should it? Instead of going to the county to try to get some sort of thank you why not go to the organizer of the event and ask them for tickets? Let them know how many years that your group has gone for free and see if they would offer single tickets to the event. There are many organizations out there that have decided to take away the gifts and bonuses because money is tight. You obviously know this. You have every right to rant but things change and situations change and if any organization can adapt to change it's an EMS agency. Good luck.

But seriously, does it matter if it was training or not? The value of this video is incalculable for training purposes and What the hell NOT to do!!!!!! -

Good research JP If this is a training video then it was excellently done. -
One question - Why do we really care about whether he got his money back. If you bitch long enough at any store they will give you your money back just to be rid of you.

I think that based on the video the fire guys did some things right. Most notably they got out of the truck with full SCBA on. Then rapidly put water on the ammonia fog and then put the victims on the backboards and got them out of the area of exposure. They did not open the car door until the fog was under control. I couldn't see much else and since I don't have a fire background I might be off base on some of this. The Fire truck did park pretty close to the damaged and overturned tank. Not good in my opinion. I don't remember what the MSDS said but I'm sure they need to be more than 20 feet away. I also agree it was a very difficult video to watch. -

I've responded to this type of incident. Had a guy stealing ammonia, broke the coupling to the tank, got it full bore in the face and chest. His buddy who was standing lookout saw the cloud envelop his friend, saw his friend go down almost immediately, all the while screaming and then gurgling clutching his neck like he was choking. His friend died in less than 15 seconds. The buddy being a good partner in crime, tucked his tail between his legs and ran to mommies house jsut down the road. Reeking of ammonia he forced his parents out of the house and we ended up transporting this bright not so ready for darwin award prime time to the hospital. He is now spending the better part of his child rearing years in prison because as we all know, if someone dies during the commission of a felony you are charged with murder. He WAS and was convicted. -

I did pay attention. Here is what I wrote "Fail on dispatch to let the trooper know of the ammonia" Like I said, the trooper was set up for failure from the get go. -

At least the fire department got out of the trucks with SCBA on. Fail on dispatch to let the trooper know of the ammonia Fail on major levels and it left a trooper dead. Can you imagine what was going through the officers head while he was stuggling to get a breath? -

This was terrible video to watch but here are his errors. Big farm tank cannister leaking white vapors - walking into the vapors and not coming out. The two people didn't get to come home to their families. Sometimes the urge to help people in the course of our job blinds us to what will kill us. I'm sad for his family. He made a terrible mistake and it cost him his life. PEOPLE HEAR Me - if you see white smoke from a farm cannister - DO NOT FREAKING WALK INTO THE SMOKE. -

Anthony, we get in at about the same time Wednesday night, 1130 or so. Just meet me down in the baggage area. We will go get the car after we have our bags. The drive will be about an hour or so.
