  1. So would it have mattered if the quote was from the Koran or any of the other religious books or does it only matter because it's from the "Cristian Bible"? And Actually, the first amendment does not apply in this situation. There are at least 22 mosques in New York City. Those wanting to worship at a mosque have the ability to do so, as a matter of fact, I believe that within 1 mile there are at least a couple other mosques. The first amendment doesn't apply because they aren't restricting anyone's right to worship their religion. It's as simple as that, if you have your pick of 22 other mosques in New York City then restricting one mosque from being built does not impinge upon your freedom of religion. Simple as that.
  2. Ak, I also see your point. If I remember this particular doctors case, she was refusing to both go to Iraq and also refused to complete her term in the military. She said that she didn't agree with what the military was doing and she was requesting to get out of the military. I think in the end she was required to pay the military back for all the money it paid her since she did not complete her end of the bargain. Change of heart, I agree and will give anyone the right to do that. Morals change, thought processes change. But if you refuse to abide by the terms of your service then you should be required to pay back the medical school costs, which she I believe in the end did pay.
  3. I truly don't like mcdonalds food but they do have pretty good fries and sodas. But this is beyond bad. I don't like their angus burgers but this goes just too far. this file opens up to a photo from a friends facebook page. If anyone can attach the photo only so it doesn't open to a webpage that would be great.
  4. But it's really the same thing. He just wasn't born in the USA. But I also don't think they took him back to be raised a terrorist - it sounds like this guy "got Jihad" when he was here. Still it makes no difference, the end result is there - he hates big bad america. NOw he hates america but it doesn't seem like he hated america when he was growing up getting his education, jobs, friends etc. It's sort of like the conscientious objectors in the military - one case I remember specifically was the doctor who the military paid for her medical education and paid her a salary during all the time she was getting her school paid and when it came time to pay back her debt by serving in the military she refused to saying she objected to the war. But she sure didn't object when the military was paying for that 150K in school fees etc. Sort of hypocrytical if you ask me.
  5. Go to office max and buy one of those counterfeit detection pens that all the stores are using to detect counterfeits bills go buy something at a store. (I tend to do this at stores that make a big production about looking at your large bills) You know the store. The clerk who uses the pen and then looks up at the bill in the light. Pay with a 100.00 bill and have them use their pen and do their production. Then get your change. preferably a 50.00 is in your change. Take your pen that you bought at office max and check the bills that the clerk gives you back. I've done this before, made one clerk really mad. He asked me what I was doing and I told him "Checking for counterfeits" He said, "We don't give out counterfeits so you don't need to check our change" and I replied "I don't give counterfeits either so you shouldn't have to check mine either." The clerk still was pissed. The people waiting in line behind me were laughing as I left. Even had one ask me where to get that pen and I told him. He said he was going to start doing what I was doing. If I can remember my pen I take it in whereever I go.
  6. AK, everyone has an agenda, it's not limited to politicians and religion. You have an agenda, I have one. We all do. Even atheists and agnostics have agendas. But the story doesn't say where he was born. It says that he came to the United states in 1995 with his father. What the politicians in the original post are saying is that babies are being born in america by mothers who are taking them back to be trained as terrorists. I didn't see and if I missed it I'll digress, I did not see where it said that he was born here. That's what the original post was about. Babies being born in the Usa and being brought up in the terrorist camps as little terrorists and then sent to america because they have US citizenship.
  7. Now the organizer of the New York Mosque is going to Bahrain and other Middle Eastern Countries on the State Department's dime. Thoughts on this?
  8. Tnuiqs, I agree with your anderson cooper thoughts. I think at one time he had some morals and ideals but not any more.
  9. Of course you can't check his statements. He says the first time he heard about this was from a retired FBI Agent but 1 month later he said the first time he heard about it was from someone on a plane that was a grandmother of a Hamas Member. I think he's full of crap and using this to promote his agenda. He is spreading this rumor or crap to get votes and more support from the stupid public for his repealing of the 16th amendment or whatever amendment they are trying to get repealed. This is the worst form of politics in my opinion. After watching Anderson Cooper I came away from this whole debate and issue with a bad taste in my mouth.
  10. Well I didn't say it wasn't plausible. I'm sure it is and I'm sure it has happened before. What I take issue with is this - Rep Goemert(texas) first on the house floor said that the first time he hear of this was from a retired FBI agent but when he was on Meet the Press or some Sunday morning news show he changed his story and said that he first heard of this from some grandmothers on a flight to the middle east. It sounds like he is just fear mongering and using this to push his border reform agenda. What he is trying to get to happen is to change the constitution to preclude babies born in the USA from getting automatic citizenship. That's what the underlying tone of his message is. Rep Tribble from Texas on AC360 kept saying that they were still gathering information and I respect that but the way she was responding to Anderson Coopers questions was evasive and what appeared to me to be lying. There is no doubt that women come to the states to have their babies but I think it's far fletched that we have such a problem as birthing babies in the US for the sole reason to grow terrorists to come back in 30 years and bomb us. I find that plausible but unlikely. But that's my opinion. I hope to God it isn't true though.
  11. Listened to AC360 tonight on CNN. Representative Groenert (spelling) from Texas has said on the house floor that women are coming into the USA from foreign countries to have babies, then take them back to their homeland and raise them as terrorist so in 20-30 years from now they can come back and commit terrorist acts. His first source he cited was a retired FBI agent (no name given) and then he changed the story and said it was from the granparents of members of Hamas. Now a Republican house member in the texas legislature is echoing the same statements. Of course she wouldn't give any evidence or any other sources. So the question is could this be true? Has anyone heard of this type of thing? I think they are both freaking nuts. Your thoughts. Here is the Ac360 website that he referenced in his story http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2010/08/10/terror-babies-join-the-live-chat/
  12. as a lifetime sponsor you get to be a sponsor for life which includes everything on the site I believe, including classifieds. did you also want a shirt with your sponsorship? I'd like that but not necessary. Plus most lifetime sponsorships are based on the life of the website and not based on the life of the sponsor.
  13. the part of the board that broke was one of the corners of the board. Once the corner of the board broke, the medics lost grip and down my colleague went. I do know that after this happened the service did let my friend and his family know that they had purchased an entirely new set up plastice backboards. Some good did come out of this in the end.
  14. We make mistakes, we all have made mistakes with patients, some terrible with terrible outcomes, some not so bad. AS for the patient family looking to make a lot of money, probably true, but let's not string that family up by the balls because I'm sure they have already discussed this with the fire department and they were probably rebuffed or offered to have the ambulance bill waived or something like that. They are rightfully angry, their loved one supposedly in the care of professional medics was injured and injured badly. Was it negligence, who knows. Was it a bad decision , yep. But put yourself in this families shoes and then decide what you would do in this situation. Case in point Co-worker was hit braodside by a full size pickup. Critically injured. I was driving behind him. He was being lifted on a backboard(wooden) and the board broke causing the medics to lose grip and dropping him to the ground. He had been intubated, he was extubated by the fall. He suffered an additional broken arm because as he fell to the ground his arm came loose and ended up under the board. I heard the snap. He survived though. Family asked to have additional medical bills covered by the EMS agency and was refused. They took the service to court and won damages equal to the injuries and hospital stay. Had the service had said "we're sorry, we made a mistake" the family told me that they woudl never had taken them to court. The family initially was not going to do anything unless the service refused to accept responsibility for the mistake which they did not. They sued em not for millions of dollars but for just the cost of the additional medical care as well as attorney fees. They got both. They did not ask for punitive damages. They just wanted the money to help pay his medical bills that would not have incurred without the broken backboard. So prior to chastising the family, put yourself in their shoes and think about what you would do.

Walked into a bathroom. Guy taking a dump. Making noises like he was cutting food in a styrofoam tray. He finished doing his business and comes out of the stall with a Hospital styrofoam tray with the remnants of his lunch. I asked him "Did you eat in there" and he said "Yes" I said "Wierd" he said nothing.

  16. RUFFEMS: While I disagree with their placement of the mosque but I don't see where it's incumbent upon them to take into account the feelings of anyone. It would be nice for them to take the feelings of the masses but I don't think that they are required to do so. So you believe that a double standard should exist well thats completely an oxymoronic statement . What is the double standard? I don't see one. I say I disagree with the placement of the mosque I said that they should take the feelings of those affected in to account but they are NOT required to do so. It would be nice but if they don't do that that is their prerogative. Show me the double standard
  17. While I disagree with their placement of the mosque but I don't see where it's incumbent upon them to take into account the feelings of anyone. It would be nice for them to take the feelings of the masses but I don't think that they are required to do so. Do I agree with their placement NO I DON'T but there were muslims who were killed in the attacks. I think and feel that the mosque is partly a memorial to those muslims who died so we are basically saying that they cannot honor their dead. Did those who are organizing the mosque have anything to do with 9/11, I don't think so but not sure, but why are we penalizing this group? I know the arguments that it was muslim extremists who killed 3000+ people that day but are we certain that we are punishing the right group. I'd like to think that this group has honorable intentions, only time will tell if they do or not, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
  18. My favorite SAR Gal happy birthday to you, h appy birthday to you, may you be treated like a queen, happy birthday to you.
  19. try www.naemsd.org I was a member of the NAEMS a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away but I'm not a member of any of these groups anymore. Don't have the money to pay them for membership. I don't even belong to my state ems org. www.memsa.org
  20. But Lone that is why the NAEMS and NREMT are focusing on Minimum hours. Until the education component is increased the NAEMS and NREMT will focus on that. If we as a collective industry will not mandate more education then the powers that be will continue to advocate for less is more concept. I look at it this way, I taught my son an algebra equation the other day (he's 7) A+B=C I told him what A and C were and he needed to figure out what B was. Without fail he got B right. Now he thinks he knows algebra. This is what's happening in EMS today. We see a condition(A), we have a protocol book( so we know C(treatment) Condition + Protocol Book = Treatment What is wrong with the above algebra equation? There is no accounting for variables in the patient, the protocol or the treatment. Variables such as allergies, current meds and the interactions. CASE in point. Multiple PVC's versus Paced rhythm. Teach someone the protocol for multiple PVC's and they might consider giving an antiarrhythmic right? Maybe. IF it's in the protocol book, yes they would. What happens if the pvc's are actually a paced rhythm and the monitor isn't picking up the pacer spikes? What happens when you give Lido or an antiarrhythmic to a person with a pacemaker? I'll let you answer that question. That variable will possibly kill the patient. But if they follow the basic algebra equation condition+protocol=treatment then they will do more harm than good. This will only happen one time but what a bad thing to happen to the patient and to you as a medic/EMT-I More education will help fix these issues. We need education that goes beyond the algebra concept and takes in the theory and calculus and trignometry and all that. This correlates in EMS to At least an AA or AS level education or better yet, a bachelors. If you are wanting to go on to critical care paramedic level knowledge then maybe a masters in EMS would be the base.
  21. The insurance industry as well as the oil industry are easy industries to attack in regards to their profit margins but as you see in the following as well as the figure there are other industries that are reaping double the profit margin as the oil companies. At the top of the list if the pharmaceutical industry. There is no attempt or no outcry over their 20+% profit margin. Why are we not chomping at the bit and trying to go after the pharmaceutical companies? It's easier to demonize the health insurance industry than it is to demonize the others. http://everydayecon.wordpress.com/2006/04/26/oil-profit-margins-vs-other-industries/ I remember reading an article with comparisons of the profit margins of several industries. Oil industry - profit margin approx 8% Insurance industry - profit margin approx 10% Pharmaceuticals - 20% Makeup/cosmetics - 23% Telecommunications(cell phones etc) - 11% Banks - 18% Software and computers - 11-12% Food service - 9% All industry - 7% Hmmm, this makes me think that their profit margins aren't so bad. This is taking profit margins in to account ONLY. So before we demonize a company on profit margin alone, let's compare it to other industries. Remember there is no constitutional right to health care coverage and industry is free to charge what they will. Let's not forget, most if not all insurance plans are based on covering many many illnesses, pre-existing conditions, new problems and the like. Even though I as a subscriber does not have a cardiac condition or a lung condition, the insurance plan covers cardiac conditions and lung conditions because they have to. If it's covered for one person on the plan it's covered for another. That is expensive to cover all those problems. What I don't understand is this, everyone bitches and moans about how much their insurance coverage costs and how much they would like the price to drop. But when that CVA or that heart attack comes they aren't bitching about the cost of their insurance then. How do we expect these insurance companies to continue to provide services if we continue to demonize their profit margin and demand that it be lower and that they charge less to the consumer. When they are mandated to decrease the cost of providing insurance but keep the same level of benefits then do we honestly expect the insurer to keep covering people? If we run insurance companies out of town or out of business then that puts the government run insurance plan one step closer to being the only plan available. I for one do not want to be pidgeonholed into being forced to be under one plan only. That's like saying I only get one car to choose from because that's the only car available to anyone and that car is a YUGO!!!!!.
  22. Actually that quote you quoted was not mine. It was taken from another persons post. I'm suing you for copyright infringement.
  23. Quick question. Would anyone here support banning churches near abortion clinics? After all, christians are well known abortion clinic bombers. Oh, wait. Those are radical christians, and not all christians are radical. However all muslims are radical, or have the potential to be radical. I take issue with the above statement. Especially the last sentence ARe all muslims radical? Do they all have the potential to be radical? I don't believe so I would think that Muslims would have the same opinion of Christians as we have of them. Their thought process should be All christians are radical or have the potential to be radical. What we are seeing is a small population of the muslim world garnering most of the media attention. Radical muslims bombing places all over the world. You would think that with all the media reporting that all muslims are like what a small portion of the Muslim population is doing. Consider the environmental movement and some of the radicals in that movement. WE have the ELF group burning entire new subdivisions because those subdivisions are not green enough. The animal rights crowd bombing the labs and vandalizing the animal labs. Shouldn't we consider everyone of the environmentalists or the animal rights crowd as radical or the potential to be radical. I'm all for environmentalism so I guess that makes me a radical I'm all for no testing on animals so I guess that makes me a radical Let's talk about our founding fathers. They could be considered terrorists because they attacked the government in power. Doesn't that make them terrorists but they are not considered terrorists, they are considered patriots and the fathers of our country but by definition of current laws, they would be considered terrorists. I have several muslim friends. They are devout muslims, they support the USA and they are in my opinion Americans. But should I disassociate with them because they are radicals or have the potential to be radicals? I think not. Everyone in america has the potential to become a radical, get the wrong message in their heads and the process starts.
  24. This mosque is years away from being built. First they have to get the permits - supposedly at least a year process Second they have to tear the building down without damaging any of the existing nearby structures and that takes time Third, they have to fight the lawsuits which will tie this up in the courts for a year or many more Fourth they have to begin building this Mosque will take at least a year. IN the end it WILL be built. But during that time those who oppose the mosque can try to build a understanding and peaceful co-existance. Maybe this is not that bad of a thing.. I say this because in times like this some good can come of it. Muslims say they are members of a peaceful religion, that the majority of muslims do not believe in what the extremists stand for. Let's take them at their word and work with them and the organizers of the mosque project to keep the spotlight on the happenings there and make lemonade out of lemons. This is a great story about a Order of Nun's wanting to build a convent near Aushwitz http://online.wsj.com/article/NA_WSJ_PUB:SB10001424052748704271804575405330350430368.html
  25. I agree with you Speedy What is the answer to this pressing question? I don't know. There are better minds than mine who are involved. Is universal healthcare the best option, I think not, just ask Massachussetts and see what their budget shortfall is and how much it costs the average taxpayer in taxes each year. Just ask the universal healthcare country's. The best way I think to gauge if universal healthcare is working is taking a look at how many people go out of country to obtain medical care. I know that to pay for universal health care in the us is going to be so freaking expensive that we don't even have a true idea or freaking clue how much it will cost in the end, the initial estimates of the cost will no where be close to the overall cost. The only way to pay for it is to raise taxes and fees for everything. Similar to the taxes and duties that the British leveled on the american colonies. Very unpopular taxes on everything from paper to rum to molasses. That happened a long time ago but if it can be taxed, it will be. As a small business owner (since been made a dorman company) my health insurance quotes to cover myself, my wife and two children was 1250.00 per month. That was 30% of what I was bringing in after taxes. due to the high cost of insurance I was forced to cease operations of my company and place it in a dormant state and take a job that had insurance. It is my understanding that if my companies plan changes in any way before 2014, if the co-pays go up or other items change then my companies health insurance plan is not grandfathered in anymore and my company loses the privelidge of offering me insurance and I get to either pay more for insurance to keep this plan or I go on the government plan. (info gathered from a health insurance salesman I'm friends with) I also read somewhere that several government agencies did a review of current healthcare plans and fully 57% of americans will not be eligible for insurance coverage by their employer based on those employers losing their grandfathered status thus forcing those 57% of americans to go on the government plan. Truth or not? I don't have time to vet the info because both sides are probably lying about the above. Buyt that is the type of information Joe the Plumber and everyone else out there are getting. I just wish there was some way of getting to the truth.
