Show me where my post is a little naive I have been in EMS for over 19 years off and on. I know many new emt's, emt students, paramedic students and new paramedics who consider it a badge of courage on how often they stop. They use the tired excuses that they were there so they stopped or if "I hadn't stopped the patient woudl have died" or whatever excuse they use. I fell into the above when I was a new medic and new emt. Like many new emt's and medics the belief that since I had the new found skills I could help out everywhere and at every accident. Hell I even know of a few EMT's and medics who listen to the scanner and they respond to the scene if it's close to their house. I don't think that the logic I used about the new gung ho ness as well as that new adrenaline rush is too far fetched. Maybe those in Australia have less of a adrenaline rush but trust me, it happens here in the US all the time. I do agree that stopping is a case by case basis. I have said in the past on this thread that yes I would not stop, but I'll temper that. If I witness a accident, I'll slow down and make sure that I don't see anyone really hurt badly. I will then decide based on my assessment of the scene if I will stop or not. Am I going to stop at a accident where it's in the middle of a very heavily trafficked Interstate? NOPE too dangerous Will I stop at an accident where it's two lanes one each way, and the road is blocked and I can pull off far enough to keep my vehicle safe then maybe. Will I ever stop when my son or daughter is in my car and I'm the only other one in the car, NOT A CHANCE. My son or daughter safety is compromised when I leave my car. The chances of my stopping will increase only if I'm in the car alone and I know the area. I do not believe that my thought process of the "I stopped so I'm important" is too far fetched. I truly believe that part of the stopping mentality of people is that they think it actually makes them look important. Disagree with me, fine thats your perogative but I'll be that many on this forum will remember back to when they were brand new, 10 feet tall and bullet proof and stopping at an accident scene made them feel important. I am sure not many on this forum will admit to that but it's more prevalent than you think it is. Not disagreeing with you Timmy, just giving a little different perspective.

Dwayne, did you read my last post? You continue to insult me calling me a crybaby yet you have not responded to my last post. I have yet to insult you in any post I've put on here. I was, and I have said it before, I was responding to your lack of tact in responding to me. I have NEVER NEVER NEVER asked anyone to treat me like a delicate flower and I'm offended that you feel like you need to do that to me here. That insults me if you ask but then again, you will probably call me a crybaby again. I thought better of you than the attacks and insults. I have reiterated and I will again, the statistics that I read from the highway patrol web site did not include the racial make up of the community, only by delving deeper on the site which actually believe it or not was the Attorney Generals Site but it had been linked via that Highway Patrol site. I also thought that the statistics I posted did give some illumination to the discussion at hand but unfortunately I apparantly did not meet the Dwayne Test so what I posted was automatically wrong. I have gone back to the highway patrol's website and delved deeper and provided the pdf file that the report was based on and here is what I found. I am only going by Raymore's information and I refuse to go and get the KC MO info because this exercise is only focusing on Raymore. If you want info on KC MO then you can go get it yourself but here is what I found. 5279 total stops 4600 white people stopped 520 blacks stopped Population is 90 percent white and 8 percent black. The percentage of blacks being stopped is just above 9% while Whites stopped is just around 89% So do I believe that racial profiling occurs in Raymore. No I don't. My contention is that the percentage of blacks stopped corresponds directly to the population as a whole. 8% of all stops were for black people. 8 percent or so of the population in Raymore is black. That doesn't seem like a overly large percentage of blacks being stopped. Am I wrong, are they profiling, maybe , who knows. Do they stop every black person going through raymore, I would think not. I hope I'm meeting the Dwayne Standard. I decided to go back an look at KC Mo also. Kansas city total stops 157000 or so Blacks stopped 57000 or so Whites stopped 86000 or so Percentage in population Whites 61% Blacks 27% the stop rate for blacks is around 34% or so(I don't do math much) The stop rate for whites is about 60% or so. Does racial profiling happen in KC MO sure it probably does, but the figures do not bear out that blacks are being stopped in KC MO at a higher rate even with their population being less than the whites. If racial profiling was such a huge problem in KC MO wouldn't the percentage of stops be higher than around 34 percent? I hope that these figures which I believe meet your criteria that you laid out to me on your post. I have also included here the pdf file that I took the above information from.

For those of you who say you Have to stop or that you would not feel right in not stopping. I wonder if this is an ego thing or a "I'm so important that I have to stop" Honestly I think a lot of the mentality for stopping is this. I'm an EMT or a Medic. I see an accident, I stop I help the person. I feel good about myself. I feel good that I stopped. I looked important to the people I helped. I can now go back to my friends and family and show how important I was because I stopped. I really didn't need to stop but I did because if I didn't I'd get in trouble. Is it a pick me up feel good issue that makes me look COOL in front of all my EMT friends or is it truly out of a need to help. I find that many of the people in EMS I know that stop at all accidents or problems, they tend to brag about how much they helped those poor unfortunate people in the accident. And for those of you saying that you stop because the law says you have to, please post a link to the law in your state that says you "have" to stop. I would think that the law is not as cut and dried as you think. Relying on hearsay from others saying "you have to stop" is asking for trouble. Unless you have read the law yourselves then you are not completely sure that you have to stop.

Ok, I went back to the main highway patrol website. The original post that i referenced did not in the diagrams reference race breakdown for Raymore I found the actual pdf file and it does indeed show the racial breakdown of the town. As soon as I get back from my son's rocket launch or sometime later today, I will post the information based on the Dwayne standard "no disparagement intended Dwayne" Dwayne, even though I disagree with the way you pointed out for all of us. I can say that the racial stops seem to be in line, at least in Raymore as to the racial population Here is Raymore's Highway patrol stop numbers in a attachment. And no, it doesn't say anything about pagans or wiccans but if I can find that breakdown I will.

Dammit Dwayne, do you have to attack every one of my recent posts? You know, you aren't always right but you sure think you are. I was just citing the statistics that I read from the State Highway patrol. I do not know the percentage of whites versus blacks, nor do I know the percentage of wiccans versus Pagans in that community. But I'll make sure to get those types of statistics even if the source I'm citing doesn't have that information posted. I was simply citing the statistics that came from the website. I guess from now on just to appease you I will make sure that I get all the statistics, no matter how mundane or not applicable to any fricking thing that has to do with it just to appease you. I just can't win with you can I? Let's just agree to disagree and go our separate ways,

I think he meant if he was in the passenger seat. If his service hands out discipline for wrecks when he's in the back, then that's a screwed up system. I'm sure he'll clarify soon I know that AMR when I worked for them as well as my last service I worked for, did a drug test of both crew members if an accident happened while driving. It's their way of fulfilling the random drug test promise they make to every employee when they get hired. We do random drug testing but we only do it when that random employee injury or damage to hospital/employer property occurs. We don't do it consistently though. You have to have that random accident or we don't do drug tests. If you are going to do random drug tests do what the airlines do. The plane arrives at the terminal. There is a supervisor at the gate and she goes into the plane and everyone pee's in a cup right then and there. You never know when it's your turn but every single day depending on the airport, 1/8th of the crews get tested. I learned this from a Frontier airlines (HOT HOT HOT) flight attendant.

Ok, the video has been taken by the Mrs. When I arrive home I will put it on a site. Does anyone have any suggestions for a easy upload site? I could do facebook but I'm not sure if I want it out there. And I definately do NOT want it on Youtube.

Personal equipment/your "uniform"
Just Plain Ruff replied to d2600's topic in General EMS Discussion
the service I worked for last all we got was a coat and weather proof thin pants to go over your pants. I paid for the following boots (150.00) Pants 5 pair (45.00 per pair) 220.00 Shirts: 5 shirts (shortsleeve at 20 per shirt) 100.00 Belt: 35.00 at the local uniform shop I got the pants at Total I'm out of pocket: nearly 500.00 Add to that a flashlight: 10 bucks at my inlaws radio shack Stethoscope: 120.00 for a littman Safety glasses - 5 bucks And I'm nearly out 600 or so. But I don't work there anymore. -
you know your mystery persona may be blown as a result of this. but seriously, this sucks. This publisher since they cannot get those who posted the entire article they are going after the site. I understand protecting your copyright and I even more understand news organizations who rely on almost all their revenue from ads in their printed papers are protecting their copyrights and rights. But suing a forum like this is not the way to go about things.

Ok, if someone can tell me how on this site to post a video or imbed a video link in a post I'd be happy to show off my daughters new found mobility

No it's the druids and wiccans who are the terrorists

ok for those that don't know and I will tell you what we went through Found out we were pregnant the week to the day after we buried my wifes dad. (I was working the night we coded him) Went to the doc that week. Put on Heparin IM for my wife's Factor 5 Lytum whatever the hellthat is I forget. 7500 units IM in am and 7500 in pm Went on for 8 weeks with just the aboved. The found that the cervix was 1/8 inch thick and we went for a emergency Cerclage to close the cervix - then spent 9 days in the hospital on bed rest came home for 3 weeks, returned to the ER with some issue and put on 28 days in the hospital bed rest Came home and was on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy during all that time we found out she was a gestational diabetic - put on glyburide At 37 weeks we found out the the little baby stopped growing at 33 weeks so we went in that night to the hospital for a delivery the next day. They gave Jennifer Vancomycin due to some latent infection and she was allergic so she got benadryl and epi over night (I slept through that) That morning went on pitocin and 7 hours later we had a perfect baby girl. That's our saga. The reason why we were on heparin is that the last 3 babies prior to Gabby were miscarriages, two at 7-8 weeks and another we delivered at 17 weeks. Genetic testing showed Factor 5 lytum which I believe is a clotting disorder. I was during all this time in the hospital and her on bed rest trying to work, keep the house clean, keep up with a 6 year old and all the other stuff that goes with a wife on bedrest. Thank god for our family, our church family and the prayers of a core group of people on this site and another one I belong too. But if we had to do it all over again, we would.

For those of you who know of my wife and daughters miracle of life that we went through last year you will understand why this was such a huge deal in the Ruff household. If not you'll just realize it's a cool thing My daughter Gabrielle started crawling sunday afternoon. My wife can't keep up with her now. Go speedy go.

I don't think that a individual can sell a medical product like that without some sort of healthcare sales license or permit. I know that if it says use restricted to a doctors order then I think the seller needs to be a qualified healthcare sales outlet. Plus, are you going to trust someone on craigslist(killerslist, whoreslist) to guarantee the safety and quality of this device for your patients? I would go witha qualified seller Plus, how do you know the stuff wasn't missing on the local ems agencies dock and ended up on craigslist. At least with Ebay you can verify the seller identity or require him to give you proof or you can report him. ON craigslist you don't have that option.

that I can agree with you on Crotch. I think the muslims are just better at it than their counterparts. They've had more practice and they have access to better bombs. But there are terrorist orgs in every country, muslim and non muslim. they all need to be rooted out and destroyed and condemned by the public and those who they say they represent. It's like an infection, you get rid of the offending organism and you can cure the infection. A simple analysis but one that is partially true. Every time I get on a plane, I wonder, is this the day that that lone idiot terrorist has figured out a way to detonate a sock bomb or a mp3 player bomb. It's scary but I don't give it any more thought than "not this time" I can honestly say that planes will not be the next weapon of mass destruction, I think it will be the water supply or a local nuclear powerplant. We really aren't too far apart on our thoughts Crotch which you know, we never really have been.

Let me ask you this. If racial profiling is such a BAD problem let me ask this. I read the statistics for last years traffic stops for both Kansas City Missouri Police and the Raymore police department. The KC Police made around 75000 car stops that were reported.(do not remember exact numbers) (do not reply with - well what about the unreported stops) They stopped 46000 whites 26000 blacks and the rest were other races. The arrest numbers were 4500 whites and about 2000 blacks. Those numbers to me don't suggest racial profiling The numbers for Raymore were even more disparate 10000 stops ( can't remember exact figures) 7200 whites with 800 or so arrests 2000 blacks with 50 or so arrests I can't see the racial profiling. I'm sure the numbers in other cities are higher and more disparate but I just can't see racial profiling in these numbers. Sure you can say that they picked out the blacks and stopped them but I don't buy it. The police departments are more under the magnifying glass than ever. They are more aware of what is racial profling I may be way off. I would be curious to see what the numbers of white officers versus black officers were. Do white cops pull over more blacks than black cops do? But seriously, the old adage like the all terrorists are muslims, all black males are criminals. That just doesn't fly in my book.

Crotchity, there have been many incidents of terrorism in the world that have not been carried out by Muslims. http://www.loonwatch.com/2010/01/terrorism-in-europe/ this is pretty interesting and a direct counterpart to your argument. You are not taking into account the other terrorist organizations such as separatist groups, right wing environmental groups. The definition of a terrorist is one who uses violence or acts to strike terror in the citizenry. I couldn't find a good definition. The clinic bombings, the abortion doctor killings, the environmental whack jobs that have burned countless houses and buildings to protest that those houses are not green enough. The animal lab destruction. The colombian rebels I do not believe are islamists but I'm not sure. The attacks on muslim women and families in France and the riots in France a number of years ago all from non-muslim The Europols conclusion is as follows: Islamist terrorism is still perceived as being the biggest threat worldwide, despite the fact that the EU only faced one Islamist terrorist attack in 2008. This bomb attack took place in the UK…Separatist terrorism remains the terrorism area which affects the EU most. This includes Basque separatist terrorism in Spain and France, and Corsican terrorism in France…Past contacts between ETA and the FARC illustrate the fact that also separatist terrorist organizations seek cooperation partners outside the EU on the basis of common interests. In the UK, dissident Irish republican groups, principally the RIRA and the CIRA, and other paramilitary groups may continue to engage in crime and violence. More from the report Perception is not reality. Due to the right wing’s influence and propaganda, people mistakenly think that Islamic terrorism is the greatest threat to the Western world. It is even a commonly held belief that Islamic terrorism poses an existential threat–that the very survival of the Western world is at stake. Of course, the reality is that there are other groups that engage in terrorism on a much larger scale, yet these terrorist incidents are minimized. Acts of terrorism committed by Muslims are purposefully sensationalized and focused upon, culminating in the idea that “(nearly) all terrorists are Muslims.” Terrorism from Islamic extremists is certainly a cause for concern, but it need not be an issue that creates mass hysteria. Nor should it be allowed to be such a critical issue that we are willing to sacrifice our ideals or civil rights for fear of it. Neither should we be reduced to a status of absolute sissitude. We have analyzed data from America and Europe (a good portion of the entire Western world), and the threat from Islamic terrorism is much more minimal than commonly assumed; in the U.S., it accounts for 6% of terrorist attacks, and in Europe not even half of a percent. It is only through sensationalism and fear mongering that the topic of Islamic terrorism is allowed to be used to demonize a religious community that happens to be a minority in the West. When confronted by such lunacy, we ought to respond with the facts and the truth We tend to focus on what gets the most news. If it's big and nasty then yeah it gets more news but I can tell you that the doctors who were targeted on abortion activists web sites and their addresses were given out and bounties were put on their heads I can tell you that to them, that extremist group was a terrorist group. Let's also not forget Ted Kazynsky (remember him) Let's also not forget the anthrax powder people who sent the white powder to the government offices as well as to post offices. You can't tell me that those people targeted were not terrified for their lives when they opened a package and it had white powder in it. So to say that all terrorists are Muslim is not a valid statement and in fact contributes to the fear that we all have.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG AGAIN Not all terrorists are muslim. That was the dumbest statement of all in this thread.

We have all heard by now the hullaballoo over the Arizona law that has gotten everyone to stand on one side of the fence or the other. We have administration officials who have admittedly not read the bill (I'm sure they've read it now) - Eric holder and Janet Napolitano admitted in front of congressional committee hearings that they had not read the bill. A senior State department official also admitted on national television that he had not read it. All three are calling it unconstitutional. So I have three questions. 1. Have you read the 12 pages of the law? 2. Where do you stand on the whole controversy? Do you stand with Arizona or do you stand with those against Arizona? 3. Do you think this was a good law to pass, a bad law to pass or a misguided law? Please keep this civil.

I forgot about the Druids, I also forgot about the templars. But seriously - I do not agree with it but it is their property to do with what they please. If they want to build a mosque then I say let them. When we start to restrict property rights then we get on a slippery slope not unlike that pesky imminent domain. But We have become the appeasement nation and we can't offend any one. We also must apologize for everything that has happened in the world because it's all our fault. If I had the vote, and could change the zoning law at that area to preclude this I would but alas, I don't have the vote. Let's all remember here, when we start restricting the freedoms that we are guaranteed by the constitution that is a slippery slope that I don't want to try to climb. They are easy to give away and impossible to get back.
-
Let's also not forget that there were muslims that lost their lives that day who worked in the twin towers. If we allow a christian church to be built near there then why are we against allowing a mosque to be built. (I never said I agreed with allowing the mosque to be built - I know many of your all reasons) But to allow one religion over the other is just WRONG, no matter how offensive that building will be to those who lost their lives on 09/11 I do not believe there are any religious buildings on the ground zero site, I could be wrong, I don't live in NYC. But to exclude a mosque we need to exclude all religious buildings. The alternative is to make it a all encompassing religious area - Let's say Each religion who lost people gets to have a room in the new building. But then who gets a room on the ground floor, who gets a room in the front or back. Will they all be the same size or is it based on the number of accepted believers as to what size the room is. Does the christian groups get their own room, a baptist room, pentecostal room, catholic room, nazarene room, methodist room. Do the Islamists get one room for non-extremists and one for extremists What about the hindus, the irdus, the native americans, the satanists, the wiccans etc Mormons, RLDS'rs. Where do we draw the line To have a single religion singled out to get their own building on ground zero or near it is absurd. Besides I think we still have property rights and damnit, if you I own the property and it's zoned for what I am wanting to build then to hell with you all to try to keep me from building what I want. If I want to build Whit's End (adventures in odyssey plug) or build a porn shop or a shop to celebrate my basset hound brandy, I will do so probably much to someone's chagrin out there.
-
Ok, you are screwed but here are a couple of things that you can do to make sure that what is happening may stop 1. Call your service's medical director, list out what happened like you told us and that you feel you are being ramrodded out because they feel that driving trumps patient care. Be careful to make sure you have documented patient names and info on certain calls on when this dumbtard didn't take vitals, especially the one with the low bp that he didn't take. 2. Call Medicare and let them know about the fraudulent medical charting and fraudulent billing. they will take a active interest in this case. 3. Let them fire you, don't quit or you cannot get unemployment and then just soak it up. (I don't advocate being a drain on society) 4. count your blessings you learned quickly that this service SUCKS Donkey balls.
-
You can't ban a religion any more than you can ban bad behavior of those who follow that religion. If you are going to ban christianity you have to ban all religions. Plus, no one is saying to ban any religion on this thread. Some are saying to keep the mosque out of the area of ground zero. I for one think if the mosque would be used to counter the negative opinion of all those who hate Islam then this would be a VERY good thing but I have my true doubts that this will happen. The knee jerk reaction is to ban the religion when it's a select group of fanatics in any religion that do what they do. I for one see a lot of good that organized religion does but you get that one bad apple or bad orchard and everyone guilty by association.
-
What if they ask? What if they say, how'd you know how to do all that? Most providers I know can't resist saying "I'm a paramedic" it's what they are ingrained to do.
