  1. Brently and Mobey, sorry to be a spoil sport but please Shut the heck up. No one here wants to see your "my penis is bigger than yours" arguments. You both are just being childish and immature. Take your discussion to PM's as I'm sure not many people on this board want to see the two of you bicker back and forth. Mobey, I respect you and I hope you understand where I'm coming from on this. Brentley - I don't know you nor your posting style so I can't say I respect or don't respect you. Just stop trying to one up each other.
  2. OK what the heck was a fire department responding to a water main break for? Do they need to justify their jobs that much to respond to a water main break?
  3. I have a real hard time with allowing a drunk to refuse transport. I have an even harder time allowing a drunk to refuse if they have any type of trauma. But many doctors you call on the med radio or ER will not force you to transport to the ER because they are worried about liability of forcing or "kidnapping" a patient. This mindset makes me nervous. If the doctors in the er won't let the patient presenting with the same symptoms as they are presenting with me, why do they have no problem in forcing transport. But unfortunately we are up against a rock and a hard place in what happens, we have to abide by the doctors thoughts and opinion and make sure you get on a recorded line. Hard to do when you have a cell phone only. It falls on you as a medic to write the most detailed and informative report you can write in order to justify why you let a head trauma/etoh person refuse and you didn't transport them. The defense attorney will surely ask why you did not force transport? Better have it backed up in your report that the doctor did not force transport.
  4. Ok, went to the ortho doc, he said no surgery nor MRI at this time. He want's to do PT for 3-4 weeks and then re-evaluate. He doesn't like to cut on shoulders with only a grade 1 separation. so I bought a huge bottle of 500 advil's gonna take 800mg every 8 hours (I know when the 8 hours is up as it begins to hurt). I'll do the PT and see what happens. I'm off work for 2 more weeks minimum which sucks big time because I have no more PHO built up after the 3 shifts this week. I do get to go to pals class tomorrow and thursday. Hopefully all will be well. I just hope that I heal as good as a 25 year old.
  5. God, can't you guys quit bickering even one day? This conflict of your alls is tiresome. Some people don't like what you post, others don't like the fact that you use your moderation stick too much. Take this to PM's please, no one else here wants to hear the two of you fight with each other. As a matter of fact no-one on this board really wants to hear those others who get mad at each other do it here. If you don't like each other you have two choices 1. don't respond to the one you hate's posts 2. Just drop the bickering I'm having a bad day but this is rediculous. You guys sound like 2 elementary children.
  6. Exactly. This is why is it best to prefer, in order: 1. left open thru-lane 2. open lefturn lane 3. an open thru-lane or righturn lane -even if right of occupied lanes (be ready for someone clearing right) 4. going into opposing traffic lane #1 When turning right at a red intersection, I prefer the right turn lane with no siren so drivers ahead can continue right turns on red. (With siren, they may freeze and no one moves nowhere not no how!) You are asking for right of way. The driver is not required to move forward and get hit (as the motorist killed in front of Lakewood fire truck was). Nonetheless, he panicked (did they have Yelp sounding?)and did not wait for cross-traffic to stop. This is why we prefer opposing lane #1 rather than pulling up behind someone stopped at their red signal. You, not they, take on the risk of getting cross-traffic to stop. We drive GENTLY, PREDICTABLY, and courteously with as little use of the siren as possible. END Robert's quote******************************************************************************End Quote gently, predictably and coureously yet you run through red lights if you think the intersection is clear, you drive into oncoming traffic but you say you only do that when there's lots of room. Whew, keep spouting that nonsense and believing it will only make you sorry in the end. If you push someone out into traffic, even though you didn't ask them to go into traffic is still YOUR FAULT. You come up behind someone at a stop light and nearly every person (good driver or bad) will try to get out of your way. Sometimes they will pull ahead and then to the right and sometimes they will go into oncoming traffic or into cross traffic and in the end, you will probably not be found at fault in a traffic citation or traffic court but in the court of public opinion and civil court you WILL Lose. If you go into oncoming traffic it is your fault NO MATTER WHAT? You are not given carte blanche to drive any the hell way you want to. You are not given the right to go into oncoming traffic. Any EVOC instructor will tell you that the oncoming lanes of traffic is the last route you want to go. If you get in a wreck going the wrong way you might as well tell your service how much of a check you want them to write. I'm surprised that this has gotten this far. Robert, I hope that you never get in a wreck. If you do I hope that the plaintiff's attorney never comes here to see your posts. They will tear you up one way and down the other. Everything you have written has provided us a detailed look into both your driving habits and the driving policies of your agency. You are the one who was so upset about the bad driving policies of the Brits yet you have advocated just as dangerous a policy here on your driving. That in layman's terms is "the pot calling the kettle black" I am sure you are a good kid, one who might be able to be retrained by an EVOC class or just a nice talking to by a state trooper.
  7. So he embraced the life of a firefighter so doesn't that also make him a firefighter too? Sounds like he's both a firefighter and a paramedic.
  8. This is news that made it to Jems. Wow, well the other day I swerved to avoid hitting a deer, I just had to not hit the damn animal. I also missed about 2000 bugs on the way home, of course there were another thousand or so that I did hit but 66% survival rate is pretty good right? No wonder Jems.com is becoming the National Enquirer of the EMS world.
  9. I have this contest up on facebook so I'll post it here. My wife is due to deliver a baby girl in the next 25 days. If you wish to guess when the actual date and time is I will send the person closest a picture of the baby with me, my wife and my son gathered around her. You need to include an email address in where you want it sent. NO NO NO you cannot have the picture without me in it ha ha ha. If two of you are close the time you choose will be the deciding factor. I know it is self evident but here goes If one of you says Sept 12 2pm and the other says sept 12 2:05 and the baby comes at sept 12 2:04 then the first person wins. Capiche? You will recieve a picture of the first girl born in my family in over 120 years. Hows that for WOW factor? If you don't wish to send me an email addy then post the date and time and then PM me a email address. Start your guessing NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. But the headline you advocate does not get people to read the article. But seriously, what the hell was the firetruck doing anywhere close to the helicopter? Who was in charge of the LZ? Sounds like he needs to be given the response "no LZ in charge for you!" The firefighter driver should have looked and watched closer. Too many people to fault here. I'll bet that this won't happen again especially if it comes out of the fire departments budget.
  11. I'm now up to 14 replies for this topic. Any help on this one?
  12. When I opened this thread I got three messages that say I am ignoring each person who has replied to this thread. It even says that I am ignoring posts by ME I went to my settings, looked at my ignore list and it's empty. the only way to see each reply is to go and change the threshold seen below. I don't want to have to change the threshold each time I log in.
  13. Is anyone else getting these messages when they click on a post This post is hidden because you have chosen to ignore posts by JET EMT . View it anyway? Admin, any idea why I'm getting these messages.

  15. does anyone know what Connecticut rules are when it comes to this type of thing? I'll be not so how can everyone on here be so sure that it wasn't illegal?
  16. there are not any people getting jail time for leaving a dog accidentally in a car. Most don't ever get reported. the only reason why this one made the news is that the person who left their dog in the car happened to be the head of the spca. Coincidence? I think not.
  17. I'll bet the insurance group got word of money that they were losing or insurance companies were losing and they put a stop to it. the other thought is that the subscription program had not been updated for a long long time and some of the provisions in the contract were invalid. More than likely the 35.00 was a charge that every resident was required to pay and those who didn't pay it filed a complaint saying that it was unfair that they are being billed for the full ambulance bill while others getting their service at a very reduced rate. I'll bet it is pushed as a mandatory thing and if you resist you get SCREWED. NOT COOL. I'll bet if we wait long enough we will hear that this subscription plan will be back in force in no time. I have the local helicopter membership plan and for a mere 55 dollars a year it covers all my family members regarding helicopter flights. What my insurance pays them directly is what they get. The subscription plan kicks in and covers the rest.
  18. Ok, memorize them for your test. But in a stressful situation your memory regarding the pediatric dosages is going to go out the window. There is nothing wrong with using a field guide or pamphlet put out by a reputable childrens hospital to quickly review a dosage for adenosine or epinephrine on a 5kg patient. In fact, a prominent pediatric intensivist at Childrens Mercy Hospital told me one day "It's criminal not to use a guide, the first thing to go in a critical child call is gonna be your drug dosage memory" Not saying that this is what will happen to you or anyone on here since we all are "AWESOME PROVIDERS" but to those of us who are not awesome providers I can take all the help I can get when I get a critical kid. Why do you think we have the broselow chart/bag???(way to overpriced if you ask me though)
  19. Why should we give this person a pass? We are held to a higher standard when we are driving so she/he should be held to a higher standard when it comes to protecting animals. It's like this, You don't give this person who fought for animal rights a pass. Just like you don't give a person who has fought for victim rights when they become a victimizer. for example - a prosecuting attorney who fought for victims and put away many many bad guys for drunk driving. He one night goes out and hits a car headon because he had been drinking and driving. Some say he just had a couple too many and he made a error in judgement. do we hold this person to a lesser standard since he had been a staunch supporter of accident victims rights, or do we hold him accountable to the same standard that he held everyone else in the community.
  20. I tried to set up a account yet I never got the email on how to. What I don't understand is this You have requirements to perform your job. If you don't do those requirements then you lose your job or are disciplined. These medics had ample opportunity to complete the requirements which by golly were so difficult to do and complete. I'll bet that these firemedics never missed a single one of their recert or requirements for being a fire fighter. Unfortunately Dr. Tober will be out soon. There's just too much opposition against him. The fire union and fire department holds too much power in any city. Screw the patient care, if it makes the fire department look bad then Heaven have mercy. We all know what needed to be done but the fire department has a pretty good PR machine. They can spin this to the detriment of the medical director and to the benefit of the fire department.
  21. A bus carrying only ugly people crashes into an oncoming truck, and everyone dies. As they stand at the Pearly Gates waiting to enter paradise and meet their maker, God decides to grant each person one wish because of the grief they have experienced. They all line up, and God asks the first person what the wish is. "I want to be gorgeous." God snaps his fingers, and it is done. The second one in line hears this and says, "I want to be gorgeous, too." God snaps his fingers again and the wish is granted. This goes on for a while, with each one asking to be gorgeous. When God is halfway down the line, the last guy in the line starts laughing. When there are only ten people left, this guy is rolling on the floor, still laughing. Finally, God reaches this last guy and asks him what his wish will be. The guy calms down and says, "Make them all ugly again."
  22. Not criticising your response, just asking if leaving a child in the car in the heat is the same kind of "Accident" I do think that one (the child) is much much worse than the other. Like in the movie Kung Fu Panda the turtle tells the small Rat or racoon or whatever the hell that guy was, I think his name was Master Shifu "There are no accidents"
  23. this quote from the AMR side Mr. Dumas I believe Portland police arrested Haszard two days after Herring arrived at a hospital screaming, saying the paramedic had fondled her. In Herring's case, Dumas said, an AMR manager was swift to act. "He got there before the police did because that's the kind of company that AMR is," Dumas said. DAMAGE CONTROL PEOPLE that's the reason why he got there before the police, to instruct the crew not to say anything to the cops.
  24. So if a child was left in the car would that warrant the same response from you?
  25. If your boss doesn't allow you to use your nextel's or radio's to call the ER have you ever considered putting the ED phone numbers in your personal cell phone? At least you can alert them to a critical patient. Does your service make a habit of not calling the ER's? Maybe I'm missing something here.
