I heard a news story that 95% of all people who signed up for twitter are not tweeting 30 days later. They said that it was just too painful and difficult to keep up with everyone. I stopped twitting 24 hours after I started. I found it tedious.

I'm not sure if reposting would do any good nor if it would be any easier for you to cut and paste it, and I'm sure not going to re-type it out. I guess that we'll just have agree to disagree on several points. I do know one thing that we are on the same page on one thing, that is to arrive there safely. We just don't agree on the means or the methods. -

Robert, you have just proven that you should never be put behind an emergency vehicle ever ever ever again. "there is also no speed limit" is just plain asinine to say. I think you are just messing with us. You really disturb me and your advice is just plain wrong DISCLAIMER to all those who have no ems driving experience and are using this thread to get some pointers ROBERT is NOT someone who you should take any advice about driving from. Please if you do be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions. -
We have at least one paramedic opening at our service. Pay's pretty good. If you want to know more please reply to me at ruffems@gmail.com or private message me. that is all.

I'm not sure if I want to continue arguing the point but can you prove to me that the person 5-7 car lengths away down the road to the right will be able to see you when you come thru the red light when they have a green light? They are going to be continuing on their merry way and they think that since they ahve the green that they can continue going. According to you they will be able to see you and they'll stop. Why don't you go ask your local law enforcement officer if you have to stop at a red or that if you see that all cross traffic is stopped that you can just go right on thru. Or am I misunderstanding you, and are you saying that you slow down coming to a red and if all traffic is stopped then you go on through very slowly and cautiously. Or am I reading you right that you come to an intersection at the posted roadway speed and you see all cars stopped and you just go on through the light? Your responses so far have been that you go willy nilly through the intersection if you have the red and all those with the green who are stopped stay stopped. I'm sorry I'm harping on you but your attitude that you go through red lights and it's ok, and you drive into oncoming traffic is ok is just wrong and will get you in trouble. NO emergency is worth wrecking your ambulance and not getting there. This is the reason why I feel that every EMT and Medic out there needs as much driving training as they can get. Robert, maybe this is the reason why the brits do all that practice driving under emergency conditions that you freaked out so much about several weeks ago. So many emt's get put out on the streets with no drivers training whatsoever. Is that how you were trained? There is no conscionable (sic) reason to put a new emt on the streets driving without putting them through some sort of emergency driving class. The life you save by slowing down may be your own. Northbound vehicles in lanes three, two and one had stopped for the westbound EV. I am now in the middle of the intersection. Even though minority-appearing woman in southbound lane one had clear view and had plenty of time to slow and stop, I am not convinced she will. She somewhat slows but continues forward. With my bumper against her lane, the siren was blasting into her vehicle has she passed right in front. No problem because I had stopped.) Crotchity want to take this one - the words in bold? -

We DO NOT stop at RED signals unless we cannot see if all cross traffic has stopped HOLY CRAPOLA(shit) BATMAN, you've got to be kidding? You really didn't just write that did you? If you did then your company's driving policy should be revamped and fixed. Not stopping at red signals unless you cannot see if all cross traffic has stopped, what about the driver who has a clear lane of traffic and HAS the green light. He goes on his merry way driving thru the green and you bust the red light, WHAM you've just been hit or worse yet You've just broadsided a guy who had the green and now you've hurt this guy or yourself and your partner. Please stop while you are ahead and stop giving out bad information and advice. STOP STOP STOP -
WASHINGTON, DC—At 0530 am Monday July 20, 2009, Congress approved the Americans With No Abilities Act, sweeping new legislation that provides benefits and protection for more than 135 million talentless Americans. The act, signed into law by President Obama shortly after its passage, is being hailed as a major victory for the millions upon millions of U.S. citizens who lack any real skills or uses. Enlarge Image President Obama signs the Americans With No Abilities Act into law. "Roughly 50 percent of Americans—through no fault of their own--do not possess the talent necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society," said Obama, a longtime ANA supporter. "Their lives are futile hamster-wheel existences of unrewarding, dead-end busywork: xeroxing documents written by others, fulfilling mail-in rebates for Black & Decker toaster ovens, and processing bureaucratic forms that nobody will ever see. Sadly, for these millions of nonabled Americans, the American dream of working hard and moving up through the ranks is simply not a reality." Under the Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million important-sounding "middle man" positions will be created in the white-collar sector for nonabled persons, providing them with an illusory sense of purpose and ability. Mandatory, non-performance-based raises and promotions will also be offered to create a sense of upward mobility for even the most unremarkable, utterly replaceable employees. The legislation also provides corporations with incentives to hire nonabled workers, including tax breaks for those who hire one non-germane worker for every two talented hirees. Finally, the Americans With No Abilities Act also contains tough new measures to prevent discrimination against the nonabled by banning prospective employers from asking such job-interview questions as, "What can you bring to this organization?" and "Do you have any special skills that would make you an asset to this company?" "As a nonabled person, I frequently find myself unable to keep up with co-workers who have something going for them," said Mary Lou Gertz, who lost her position as an unessential filing clerk at a Minneapolis tile wholesaler last month because of her lack of notable skills. "This new law should really help people like me." With the passage of the Americans With No Abilities Act, Gertz and millions of other untalented, inessential citizens can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. Said Obama: "It is our duty, both as lawmakers and as human beings, to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her lack of value to society, some sort of space to take up in this great nation."

robert do you really believe what you wrote? going into oncoming traffic is a sure fire way to get hit. Even though you can see far away does not mean that other drivers who you are coming at directly in their lanes of traffic can see you. I had to investigate a mva with our ambulance service many years ago that the crew drove into the oncoming lane of traffic. The driver of a small car said she didn't see the ambulance because of the sun in her eyes and she hit the ambulance head on. Two crew members injured, 3 people in her car injured. Your advice that it's "not unsafe at all" is Bad advice. We do not save A LOT of time not having to wait for traffic signals, The time you save will may be 30 seconds or so but pushing people through the intersection or causing Granpa Jones slam on his brakes at the intersection and subsequently causing Mother Baker to hit him with her car is not worth the risk to other drivers. Most people cannot hear the sirens even with no radio on until the sirens get to less than 100 or so feet away. couple that an airconditioner going or a stereo blaring and there is no way you will be heard. And you should never force another vehicle out into oncoming traffic in order to get out of your way. You are ultimately responsible for any action that you cause. If you force a car out into the intersection just so you get through that pesky red light and that car gets creamed by a semi or another car the damnit, YOU are the root cause of their accident and you will be held liable (or should be) for their accident. Please think before you post in the future, the advice you gave above was just plain BAD! -
I can think of one reason - paying the medical bills of a employee who had a significant back injury lifting the non-electric cots could pay for several of these cots. But to refit for every stretcher I can see the financial pitfalls though. Our service has 3 ambulances each with the power cot. It was a easy choice but for a service with 10 or 20 or even 40 or 50 ambulances I can see the financial issue.

Absolutely on the paper trail. If you are going to make a complaint I say do it with your name behind it. but I think we are talking about a fire crew that got called away from their recliners and didn't want to have to do any work. Patient care issues absolutely have to have names on them or they lack credence unless you are calling in on the corporate compliance hotlines many hospitals ahve set up. I do agree that if a name is not on the complaint it is taken less seriously but every complaint has to be investigated no matter how small, you never know, you might find an Al Quaida or mafia component at work. You never know. ha ha
-
I would take a little more credence in anonymous attacks. Contrary to popular belief, the media uses anonymous complaints or anonymous sources all the time. If you do not take a anonymous source seriously it will (if it hasn't yet) come back and bite you in the ass. The person who complained can come back and give details of the complaint they made anonymously and if you didn't do anything about it then you are in deep ka ka. A lot of times they are just smoke blowers but many times they are valid complaints by people who do not want repurcussions to occur to them for making the complaint. To dismiss them out of hand is at your own peril.

my ancestors also fought on the side of the Union army. Two of my distant relatives were killed in some battle in south carolina or some backwater town. I'll have to talk to my mother in order to find where they died. But they died trying to keep slavery out of the North. They even fought one of their brothers who was southern true and true. Does that count as to helping the black man, or did they just not do their jobs right? -

Goodness gracious of course I would want to see it either recalled or banned altogether. But without you giving us anymore info other than "I think there is a defective product out there" and not giving us the product your point is moot. -

I'd ask for 20 million dollars in reparations for everyone that came in contact with said dangerous equipment. Oh yeah, one more thing, I'd ask for an apology to the American people too. -
Why did the police pull your ambulance over?

I agree with you but I thought it went without me slamming the moron who did the busting through the stop sign at 90 miles an hour. That driver should have been fired and lost their certs. It's people like that that make a bad name for volunteer and career EMS. I actually have to call Bullshit on the speed and the story. It's just not plausible but hey, it might have happened. But I still call BS. AS for the driver in question, I'd have fired you on the spot if I found out about you driving like a stupid irresponsible moron. If you embellished the story to make yourself seem cool, it backfired and I am just thankful that I don't know you. It makes me feel bad for the people who entrust you to help them. So the question remains, do you drive like a out of control moronic Whacker when you are in the ambulance? or is it just when you want to beat everyone else to the firehouse so you can drive the big red truck? -

Crotchity you are a joke on this. 10million per household which if you take the census figure of 40million black people in america and divide that by a median household of 4 people you get 10 million households. Multiply 10million times 10 million and you get 100,000,000,000,000 (windows calculator figure)dollars in reparations, but my figure may be wrong. Just how the hell do you think we are going to pay for this? Do we exempt the blacks from paying into this with their taxes or do they have to pay? Of course, this may happen because we have an overwhelming liberal congress, senate and president who think that we need to tax tax tax the rich and give to the poor. I don't know where the money is going to come from but let's screw the white race and make em pay. Asking 10million per household is as liberal as you come and you show your true colors, you want money money money. This is rediculous and absurd. Most of the reparations if given will not go towards making blacks lives better, it will go towards spend spend spend and when that money is gone your race will be asking for more because as we all know, government will take care of you. It won't be enough and your race will be back asking for more because according to you, the whites will just keep you brothas down and repressing your people. It's all the white race with their hood wearing KKK members fault. You never did address the fact that your own race were the ones who sold your ancestors to the white people. The whites just capitalized on a idea that at the time made sense (but not a good idea). Your black ancestors were the root cause of your ancestors being enslaved, the whites were not the root cause. In fact if you watch the opening scenes of Roots, you will see a group of black men throwing a net over Kunta Kinte. but you refuse to acknowledge that your race was just as much at fault in enslaving your people as the whites. You are having a toilet party (eg pity party) and your mentality is give me money to make it all better. I'm just disgusted that you fail to see any other side than the side you support. But then again, liberals like you refuse to see any other side of the story, you are always right and we are always wrong. -

I'm not wading through 12 pages of responses to see if this has been asked before but my question is this.... If the test was given and a group of White firefighters failed the test while a group of black firefighters passed, would we even be discussing this? -
I think that back braces might help the person remember not to lift wrong but overall I don't think they really prevent injuries, of course there are going to be those who think otherwise and if they believe in them, then by all means keep em on. oh yeah, I have a new signature too.
-
My understanding is that they give you a false sense of security and in the long run they truly don't work. But that was what I read several years ago so I don't know if they have found they truly do decrease injuries but I've taken care of some really bad back injuries where the person was wearing one and they were permanently disabled. i'm sure the Occupational health people would know more about this.

I have met a lot of medics and EMT's from AMR who were lazy. I've worked in other systems where they came from AMR to work for us and we've had to break a lot of bad habits. for example - entering a house with just the med bag when the call was for shortness of breath or chest pain. Going on a fall at a nursing home and going in with only the cot. I've also had medics from AMR who would not do anything on scene because they could get to the hospital faster and clear to run that elusive "big call" and patients would come in with a hip fracture or a pelvic fracture and not have an IV and not have had any pain meds. Of course I've worked in many services NOT AMR, where the medics were just as lazy.
