  1. I've watched both the videos and the quality of the sound and the choppiness of the video is very hard to really follow. There were many more dynamics going on there that we don't see. We don't hear the discussion between the white trooper and the white driver and we have no idea what was said. We also don't see the initial incident that caused the officer to accuse the medic of assaulting the officer. Plus, I hate to say this but this medic actually could be accused of abandoning his patient because he left the patient alone and once the officers placed him under arrest and he was no longer in control of the patient then he could theoretically be accused of abandonment. I don't want to see that happen but this theoretically could happen. The officers were wrong to not continue this at the hospital though.
  2. Of course there is more to the story but like the comment said in the news story, the OHP will probably be doing the investigation. We will never see the dash cam footage.
  3. They are supposedly with a man who survived cancer when he was I believe 13 or 14. But if this kid dies because this person coerced them in leaving then he needs to be charged.
  4. What I am unsure of in this entire scenario is why when you are 15 minutes from the hospital with no other patients to take care of on this particular wreck why you wouldn't work it? Bystanders state that they got a pulse back when they did CPR but at this time you don't have a pulse. You have a potentially correctable rhythm PEA and several of those correctable causes can only be done at the hospital. You also had agonal respirations at the scene. Why not work it?
  5. minimum wage job = around 70 per 12 hours (I don't know what the minimum wage is right now) Standby and do nothing at the ambo barn = 40 bucks a shift. Run one call a day get 37.50 but no stipend Sounds like some people need to go redo their math. minimum wage job = win How can you get paid 40 per day and use it as your bread and butter, do they still live in their parents basement? I just honestly don't see how you can call yourself a volunteer yet get paid to do it. Can someone explain that bit of fuzzy logic to me!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Another fine addition to this thread. The guy is not dead yet, sure he looks dead but..... he's not dead. People would take you more seriously if you would add something to this thread.
  7. and if he is unable to read what is to say that the parents are reading the correct words to him. I'm all for the rights of the children but when they are under a certain age then they really can't make this life changing decision. They can assist in their choices but they cannot say "I don't want it" Plus this religion is really from what I read a very new and strange religion and this kid at age 13 is an elder int this religion. Sounds like another snake charmer religion. Too bad the right of this little kid is in question, but I'd rather have a live child than a dead one.
  8. Cynical, I don't think anyone was offended but I do think like I posted previously that someone interjected their personal experiences with a patient not of this scenario and others assumed that the patients were one in the same. I would have worked him also if it was this close to the hospital as well as the only patient. You cannot fault the medic from doing that and anyone who was not there should not be armchair quarterbacking. As for the statement that bystanders said they got a pulse back albeit for a short time then I'm going to go with that and work him. Stranger things have happened that you get a pulse back but then away it goes again. No-one here on this forum should fault your medic one bit for what he/she did as none of them were there. as with nearly every thread that is posted here these take on tangents and lives of their own and good or bad that is what makes this site worth coming to day after day. My 2cents worth.
  9. Attention all hiring directors and directors of HR. do not hire this guy Mark Musarella
  10. On scene to find a 50 year old man in full arrest. The fire department that is on scene already was performing cpr. There are a handful of bystanders, one who witnessed the accident. This patient was a motorcyclist driving at an approximate speed of 65-70mph and t-boned an suv. The suv had made a turn in front of the motorcyclist. The bystander who witnessed the accident stated that they had started cpr right after the accident and that they had gotten a pulse back. On the monitor the patient shows a rhythm of what I'm told is PEA. We load the patient into the ambulance and work him all the way to the hospital. Shortly after arriving the patient was pronounced dead. The only visible injuries to this patient are some lacerations to his head, but only one of the being deep enough to see the skull. This patient was not wearing a helmet. My Opinion: In my opinion I feel that we should not have worked this code. Given the circumstances and how he was presenting on scene, there was nothing we could do to change the outcome. When we arrived on scene and I looked at the patient his eyes were already fixed and staring off to the side. Now I understand that we had bystanders who all expected us to do something, but I guess I'm still stuck on the question of at what point do we just say "I'm sorry but there's nothing we can do." I also understand that in a way it's arrogant of us to sit there and say that we can't do anything, but if there's obvious signs of death, who are we trying to fool??? I know I will get some mixed answers on this and I'm fine with that. I just want to see how others feel and why they feel that way and if I'm wrong in this then those of you who feel this should have been worked can help me understand why. Thanks again Me thinks that we have put two different patients together. No-where in the above situation does the poster mention brain matter but several here seem to have lumped a subsequent patient who had brain matter showing into this above patient. I think that about 50% of the medics at our service also would have worked him. Unfortunately our closest trauma center is 40 minutes away by air. We can take the trauma code back to our hospital but they would quickly be called. So more than likely if they are pulseless, apneic and CPR in progress frrom Trauma then they get called at the scene. Besides, normally you have more than one patient and we have one emt and one medic working the truck. Depending on the distance that the call is from the hospital we are out of will determine if we work the code. If there is another critical patient there and the drive for the 2nd ambulance is more than 10 minutes then they code get's called and the critical patient gets worked. Simple as that. In a perfect system where we have lots of resources then yeah, we'd work it but we don't live/work in a perfect system.
  11. Does anyone have a protocol they would like to share that allows your service to refuse transport to callers? If you wish to share it with me privately please email it to ruffems@gmail.com thanks
  12. He's in the right place. If he's not the guy they were looking for then let him go but if he is and I suspect he is, then no sympathies here.
  13. I have the numbers of poison control in my phone. I use it to call and ask about medications and overdoses. I used to have a cell phone that was a smartphone (windows) but I got rid of it. Whenever I respond on an overdose and know what the medications they took are then I'll call poison control and ask about initial treatment.
  14. Suing someone while doing the duties of your job, Preposterous. We go in knowing that our job is dangerous, and to sue because of that is bad form. I guess if you as a firefighter get burned at a fire that was caused by lightning or faulty wiring you can sue either the lightning strike or the homeowner. Ice on stairs? bah humbug, I'm sure it was cold out and it is incumbent on you to evaluate the scene.
  15. Hellsbells if you didn't like the thread just keep out of it. It was a simple question with a simple answer. Not everything has to be handed to people. I would bet that those who looked this up learned something. I was asking a simple question but I guess in your view there needs to be some sort of learning opportunity handed to you on a silver platter. Well not this time. If you are unhappy with the thread then just don't respond to it, simple as that.
  16. The same from me. Know your ACLS Drugs and you should do fine. Might want to think about d-50 and narcan too but I don't think I've seen those listed from people who took the test.
  17. I missed the fact that you got the answer right. My bad.
  18. I agree with Dust, move on and continue working. Death is a part of life and if we dwell on death then we become depressed. Remember, this person had the emergency not you. Unless you know the person who died, it shouldn't affect you much. But that being said, It's ok to feel sad but to dwell on it too much can bring you down.
  19. Fair enough, I did find 2 errors. My pedestal is not that high, maybe just 3-4 inches in height. I make no excuses for the errors.
  20. I was calling you out because you started to derail the thread - the typo was icing on the cake! But now that you have quietly brought this up, let's look at English 101 shall we? hrmm - should be hmm and the H capitalized. then it should also be "Hmm, like you have never made a typo before." and then we look at sentence number 2. "get over yourself" should be "Get over Yourself." So let's all review the grammatical rules of English shall we. And No! I have never claimed not to make a typo before, but at least I do re-read my posts most of the time for spelling and grammar errors. But it's all good, be safe, take care and God speed.
  21. Did you think of that one all by yourself? How special. Shouldn't it be over the HILL pansy? fail
