  1. Now Ant, I'd hate to hear how you truly feel about this issue.
  2. ok, problem wasn't the right word. What issue or item is so big that it will take a government or group of governments to make it a reality but it will take the private sector to make it usable?
  3. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090213/ap_on_...regg_withdrawal I'm curious what kind of skeletons this guy has to make him abruptly withdraw from consideration for the cabinet position? Conspiracy theorists unite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I was just reading a book and one part hit me as a question I would ask the group. What problem or issue in the world is so great that it will take a group of governments to fix but private enterprise to capitalize on it? The first thing that came to my mind was the internet. The internet was developed and started by (not Al Gore) but the government yet private enterprise has capitalized on it. Any one want to take a stab at the next big thing that governments will start or initally fund but private enterprise will make either better or capitalize on? The best idea or best thoughts will win a prize from the Ruff vault of super secret prizes.
  5. If I was the sperm donor in this case I'd be quaking in my boots. They say she used a family friend. He's got 8 hungry mouths to feed and support for the next 18 years. I'd consider moving out of the country. Even though they say he can't be held responsible for the kids how far do you think you can trust this woman? Some lawyer will gobble this one up and go after poor sperm donor and the sperm donor is gonna lose.
  6. Anyone have a good study guide for the Written NREMT-P test? Something like a test bank or what not? I have a co-worker that needs a study guide. thanks
  7. ""Unless they were Doogie Howser's cousins, they were 14 - 18 years old. That is old enough to be responsible for your actions. It takes a considerable amount of force to break plate glass. If it was a skywalk, a considerable amount of engineering goes into the design to ensure that they are able to withstand the force of a body falling into it. They most likely were either fighting or screwing around. I will concede that if the skywalk glass was inadequate for design or had deteriorated due to lack of maintainence, then the parents would have a case."" Does anyone remember the Hyatt Skywalk collapse. All the engineering in the world was set to make the three skywalks safe yet some dumbass substituted 3 inch washers instead of 5 or 6 inch washers. With all that added weight they came tumbling down. About 125 people were killed I think. Can't remember the exact number. so no matter what amount of engineering goes into something the end result is sometimes not what was intended.
  8. I too searched several sources and found only the case study.
  9. actually Spenac, you are wrong, you can advertise or whatever you want in your signature. It's not against the rules but maybe Admin can enlighten us what can and cannot go in signatures. I for one would never have seen his advertisement if you didn't point it out. Sorry buddy, I think he's allowed to do that in his signature.
  10. but you know what, the pencil pushers who dictate and develop budgets for big city and small city departments need these ems calls to justify their existence. If you play your cards right you can limit responses to calls that really might require fire on scene and you probably can do without some of these firemen. But the pencil pushers have to justify their existence somehow.
  11. Membership will be open to anyone on this site and anyone out there who is in the Emergency Field. This includes, paramedics firefighters emt's police officers forestry rangers(ha ha) first responders also it will be open to people who have interest in emergency services but their membership will be reviewed carefully though.
  12. ok, MAST is a pretty darn good service. Has it's idiots and doofus's but don't we all? When you have a fire department like Kansas city that sends a rescue truck or a pumper to every medical call be it a fractured leg to a cardiac arrest you have a fire department that justifies it's existence based on EMS calls rather than fire calls. I think a good service to model the system after is the Med-Act system in the Johnson County Fire District #2 where they only run on life threats such as chest pain, short of breath and motor vehicle accidents. For simple falls and broken hands etc. they do not run on. But when you have a system that sends a fire truck on every single medical call except for transfers then you have a department that justifies it's existence on 98% ems calls and 2% fire calls. Mast runs about 250 or so calls a day (my numbers may be off a little bit) of those calls 150 are emergency calls. For each of those emergency calls you get a fire truck. KC FD runs maybe 1 house fire every week (maybe more on a given week) and 3-10 other types of fire calls per day, then you see where your resources are going every day. Folks, you can really run ambulance calls without a fire truck. I do it every day I work. I run cardiac arrests and trauma codes and criticall MI's and Hypertensive crisis calls every shift without the help of a fire truck. I have available first responders in some of my smaller towns but the majority of my calls I run with an EMT. It honestly CAN Be done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Good evening everyone. I have taken on some responsibility in starting the third chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics. This chapter will be the Midwest chapter. As of right now I am working on a website to promote this but I'm in need of members. You can see the main chapter's website at http://www.fellowshipofchristianparamedics.com/ Please take a look, their website and my website will be very similar but with some differences. I am hoping to set up a conference in late summer in Belton MO. I hope to have both Educational speakers as well as Christian inspirational speakers in attendance. Please take a moment to review the website and remember that mine will be very similar to the one you look at from here. If you like what you see, please email me for a membership application and I will provide it to you forthwith. thanks for looking. Michael
  14. I can tell you all what I'll do to a combative head injury patient - RSI baby but I recognize most services do not have that luxury. But any helicopter service has that ability. If they don't then they need to re-evaluate why they don't. The paramedics sound like they are toast. If the allegations that are made are true, they deserve to get their licenses pulled or fired or both.

  16. My non-profit is now in need of a website. What website design programs do any of you use? I'm a web design NOOB (Whacker if you say so) and I need a good web design program that I can use. I need a package that does not have a steep learning curve though. thanks
  17. What I have done is this, I have taken the pages with all the medications in the back, you know the ones that are just lists of medications with types and correct spelling. I have taken those pages and covered them with printouts of my protocols and other important pieces of information that I find that I use all the time. I rarely use the med sheets in the guide and what better place to put protocols and other items I've listed or set up.
  18. Dwayne, your passive agressive nature is showing again. But for the original poster, what Dwayne says is true. I've known dwayne for about 2 years or so since he came to the city and I think we might have ran him off if he wasn't so damn stubborn and kept coming back for more. Remember the scene in Animal House or some movie where they were being spanked by the wooden paddles and kept saying "Thank you sir, may i have another?" That is our dwayne. Love him or leave him though. You can learn a lot from Dwaynes posts but ....... On another tangent, If you sincerely love what you do then don't stop doing it because we here have discouraged you, do it because you love it. I have always said, I don't do a job because of the money, I do it because I love the job. I don't do the job for the money. I left a consulting career because they fired me but I did not go back to the consulting career which pays pretty damn good, I took a job I loved and missed a lot. I'm going to be going back to consulting part time to supplement my income. Take the advice from everyone here, including Dwayne, with a grain of salt because all of the advice you will be given will be tainted by our own view of the world.
  19. It was when I was 9 and I loooked at the moon rock at the smithsonian and said - this aint no piece of cheese how old were you when you saw Elvis at the grocery store?
  20. nice head on your shoulder there Ouch, My advice I think would be to try to get hired on with the service you are riding with. They know you so you have an advantage. good luck on your future endeavors.
  21. I took it that you were talking to me but your note does put some onus on me to have clarified my position. It was the negative coming out in me but then again, I do understand what your comments were though.
  22. Not trying to scare anyone away. All I was saying and fogive me if I was harsh as I'm going to be burying my father in law today and I'm a tad stressed but honestly, do you think that anyone can keep their skills up with just 20 calls a year? I was suggesting (not greatly and rather poorly) for him to get out of industrial EMS as a career and take a job as a EMT at a service that runs more than 20 calls a year. Industrial EMS is a good calling but you can't keep your skills up if you are just running 20 calls a year. He should still work in industrial ems if that's where he wants to work but getting more calls under his/her belt will do nothing but help him/her in the future. Going on and getting his/her medic would be the best decision in my book but it's up to the original poster. i was not trying to scare the op off only to enforce the ideology that running 20 calls a year does not allow you to hone your skills. This goes for any service that runs 20 calls a year. I'm all for doing what you love and I hope the "rush" never ends or goes away but to me a full time job with only 20 calls a year is just stagnating yourself.
  23. ok this is the problem I see - he already said it looks like an old police car and people give right of way to it becuase they think it's a cop's car, until they see the Big red FIRE letters and Junior spaceman behind the wheel. OP have you checked your insurance company to determine liability if you run emergency thru your town and you cream some poor soul while driving your car emergency. Do you think that your department is going to back you up or are they gonna throw you under the bus like Obama did to Tom Daschle or Jeremiah Wright? You have some investigation to do in order to limit your personal liability. If you fail to do this investigation then you prove to us that you are a total whacker and you need to grow up. If you do investigate this then at least you will know what your liability is.
  24. wow the experience he/she must have how can someone who runs 20 calls a year keep their skills up to even a mediocre level? My advice is to get out of industrial EMS and get into the field. The only way you will stay a quality EMT is to do one of two things 1. advance your level of education to paramedic or 2. get in a ambulance service that runs more than 20 calls a year. The rush will never go away when all you do is run 20 calls a year. I can't imagine that a stubbed toe gets your adrenaline going. so what do you do for the times you sit around and do nothing?
  25. informed by a long shot. There was just a thread about this maker over the past 2 weeks or so.
