Does anyone have experience of setting up a non-profit? I'm starting a chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Paramedics in Eastern Kansas and Western Missouri. Thanks

Also, my vehicle is clearly marked on both sides stating "Fire Dept" with red reflective tape fully surrounding the vehicle and reflective bumpers, as well as a light bar. My vehicle is a police model from an auction, so it resembles the local police units, and also gives me an advantage when requesting the right of way. People believe it is a police car until they are able to read the side of the vehicle. Sooooooooo you clearly have a old police car that has been modified to be a fire department car. You clearly state above that people think it's a cop car until they see the side of the vehicle. Does your department even allow this? If not then what the hell are you doing responding to incidents? If your department allows this then you must work for a volunteer service. This my friends in laymans speak is what we in the professional EMS service call Whackerdom gone wild. It's a disease with no vaccination. There are no antibiotics to counter this ailement. For all of you "whacker wannabe's" out there, please look at this person's post and make a hard decision. That decision is "Do I want to be a whacker? huh? do ya?" Did I fire 6 strobe lights or was it 7. And being that this POV is the most powerful strobe lit POV in the world, with red reflective tape and FD written on the side, and it can turn the head clean off of other whackers, do I feel lucky, well do ya whacker?

Now that is the dust of old.

does anyone remember the yellow banana vehicle that Tony gave his daughter on "Who's the boss"? Take that to the limit of this fire department vehicle and you get the idea. AS for the answer to your original question a quick google search gives you several options to go with but. I think you need to re-evaluate running in your personal vehicle. Are you covered by your fire departments insurance or your personal vehicle insurance? i'd hazard a negative on both aspects. Be careful ok.

My father in law just passed away on Wednesday. I was the 2nd unit on that night. The primary crew is a crew I trust implicitly. Excellent 2 paramedics. When they got there, they called for a 2nd unit and I was all ready to go but they said do not send Michael as this is his father in law and a nurse/medic on duty took the call. There was nothing to be done for my father in law but the two medics worked him for over 30-40 minutes. This was my most dreaded scenario as not only is it a family member but it was my wife's father. I was then surrepticiously(sic) kicked out of the ER to get out to my family's house to comfort the wife and sons. So I know what the original poster is going thru.

Grossest Jokes Of All Time ............
Just Plain Ruff replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in Funny Stuff
one still alive, do you know what's grosser than that? He's eating his way out, do you know what's grosser than that????? He made it. -
Recently a fast food customer dropped his gun in the bathroom and it went off and destroyed the toilet. They just had a funeral for "John" the toilet. If this guy can't keep his gun in his pants then why do we expect emt's and medics to be able to do so.

but most massage schools will allow you to go in and get a 1 hour massage for 20-25 bucks. I regularly go to a massage therapy school for a 1 hour massage for 25 bucks. Sure it's done by students but hey , for 25 bucks from a student versus 100 or so around here for a good massage from a licensed provider, I'll go with the student anytime. Plus some of the students are smoking HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The resume should not be any longer than 1 page maybe on the extreme 2 pages but any longer would be more of CV than a resume. Honestly, in EMS you should not have more than a page or page and a half of a resume. Even my resume which includes a masters degree, two careers (one in consulting and the other in EMS) is no longer than 2 pages but if I needed to I could cut it down to a page and a half. If you are just out of college or you are less than 25 years old then 2 pages is OVERKILL.

what are your reasons behind the nfl stepping up to help them. It was a different time back then.

1- what kind of career longevity can I expect if I continue this? you can last a long time in this business with the numbers you are talking about but you will get burned out and no-one likes a burnt out kaisu 2- what is the value of the experience I am gaining with tons of calls vs. the risks of running with this kind of volume? the value of the experience you get is knowing that you can do better with a company that puts more than one or two trucks on to cover 30 calls in a 24 hour shift. I work for a service that runs 8-12 calls a day and we have 2 trucks on every 12 hours. 3- should I start planning an exit strategy? Dear Dear Kaisu, I think that some of us have been pushing for you to get an exit strategy from this company long before you asked this question 4- I love this job - what else can I do if you think the answer to 3 is yes? you can be just as happy as the next person running less calls, being treated like less of a piece of meat and have some time for your family. I've already pm'd you previously offering you to come to where I work, we have a open medic position that won't last forever

no the fire department in question referred to in the above quote will just contract out those types of calls to the IFT crews from a private service that does nothing but transfers. They still will get the cool calls and they will get to sleep thru the night when the IFT transfer crews are doing the work. I'll bet the fire department will find a way to bill the patient for the transfer anyway. I can't see the video because it's blocked her but I understand the sentiment. It's a good thing that the fire service is so integral in the operation of quality EMS. Since they educated everyone out there about the dangers of smoking in bed, not putting a charcoal grill in their house to heat it and also not playing with matches they ahve just about trained themselves out of a job. There are fire stations in Kansas city that run nothing but EMS calls with a smattering of car fires, house fires and fire alarms but the ems calls account for nearly 98% of their call volume. Blech

Why do urban EMS fear on-site treatment?
Just Plain Ruff replied to gvandellen's topic in General EMS Discussion
You know, I've kept out of this for a while but this mentality that you have to get things done in 5 minutes or you aren't a good medic or you haven't done well for your patient is a load of crap. I know that it's easy to get an IV on a patient, check a glucose, do a 12 lead, put oxygen on them, give em drugs and a dozen other things but to expect that you get them done in 5 minutes is absurd. I've always said that if you can do all that in 5 minutes then I'll show you a medic who's making mistakes and sometimes big mistakes. When you rush, you make mistakes or you miss things. To stay and play on a patient who needs a load and go situation is just as silly but why not take the time to get your required items done and not rush. Be that in an ambulance or be that in the house, I am always going to err on the side of prudence and patient safety and patient care. If you rush me thru things, then I'm not going to a happy camper nor am I going to be doing the patient any favors. Sure if you have like some departments I've worked in that sends a fire truck(als), a supervisor, a bls rig and my ALS ambulance that stuff can be done quickly but the services I've worked at in the majority have been services where I am the only medic, I have an emt partner and maybe a first responder or two. I try to get what i need done in the right amount of time and done the first time. 5 minutes is a very short time. The better part of valor or patient treatment is knowing when to rush and when to slow down. If the patient is going to die they are going to die, 5 minutes isn't really gonna make much difference if it's their time to go. -
Rescuing children from middle-aged caregivers

sorry but political correctness got us into this kind of mess. When it comes to children I say political correctness goes out of the equation. but then again, I was gonna stay out of this wasn't I? -

Rescuing children from middle-aged caregivers
Just Plain Ruff replied to Michael's topic in Archives
as an adoptive parent, this story makes me see red. I'm not going to comment on it because it would be counterproductive to the discussion. But if I was that set of grandparents I would be in court tomorrow morning or even sooner trying to fight this. There is much much more left out of this story and it is slanted directly towards gay rights and gay adoption and slanted against hetero adoption. This has a liberal agenda slapped all over it and it makes me sick. I have no problem with Gay couples but I stop short of thinking adoption by gay couples is in the best interest of the children. The social services departments have long kept children in homes where they are abused, are molested and many other things, often times those kids left in those homes, in the name of keeping the family together have ended up dead. I'm not saying that the 2 children will end up dead in the gay couples home but over the years, family services have continually shown that they are, at least to me, untrustworthy and sometimes downright culpable in the deaths of children that they were sworn to protect. This is such an emotional topic for me that I choose to end my involvement with this topic now, but I will go and pray for these two children and their grandparents. -
To answer a couple of points Wendy, you do not have any thing to worry about my son not being included in activities with other kids as our sunday school has over 10 kids Liam's age in homeschool as well as we belong to a local homeschool chapter that offers lots of activities and field trips. As for the curriculum, we have a book by a lady named Duffy who has broken down curriculum to a science. We are going to use a variety of homeschool programs one for math, one for language arts, one for science and one for social studies as well as a long list of other items that will complement his learning. It's gonna cost us about 1200 bucks for all the items but I think in the end it will be both beneficial as well as my son will learn a lot.

Does anyone home school and if you do please let me know your curriculum you are using. My wife and I have pretty much decided to homeschool next year but we need some input on curriculum. If you prefer to send it to me via PM please do so also. thanks
