  1. My question to that follower of the ambulance with his lights activated ----- what the heck did you need to be going emergency behind the ambulance when they were responding to the hospital . There was no reason the unit following the ambulance was going hot. The patient was in the ambulance so he was being taken care of. Or did the follower think he was Johnny Gage and he was in squad 51? Remember when they responded emergency to the hospital behind the ambulance? I remember that show. It seems to me that the suv driver should not have been cited but the following fire vehicle needed to be cited. just my opinion.
  2. ok, I agree with the go to medic school right after completion of emt school. I do remember my medic school and the first 2 weeks was spent reviewing what I learned in EMT School such as Oxygen admin, splinting and all that. Then we got into the nitty gritty of medic work. I had spent 2 years between emt and medic and it did me ABSOLUTELY no benefit to do that. I spent my time working as a dispatcher and a transfer jockey. What kind of experience was that????? Get your emt then go to medic school Guys, EMT school presented the basics and medic school expanded on the basics and then got more indepth. If you have a hard time with the basics then you are going to have a hard time wiht the more advanced prospects of EMS. EMT school is not rocket science - I scored 100% on nearly every single test and I passed the EMT practicals and the EMT written with a very high percentage. If I remember right, my emt written score was 99% or maybe 98%. I was definately not the brightest bulb in my class yet I scored the highest except for 2 or 3. EMT school is a 4 month program that teaches you 25% of what you need to know in emergency care. The rest is taught in medic school. Hey my figures may not be totally accurate but you get my drift. As for the college versus hospital courses. Both are good but the college courses you get will lead to a degree while hospital based courses usually only lead to a certificate. Whichever you wish to pursue is fine but anyone with a college degree has a leg up over someone who does not. Trust me, I know this for a fact. Plus you can always leverage your way up in the world with a college degree and a certificate you might not be as successful. Just my 2 cents and I'll give you some change.
  3. definately DO NOT watch this at work.
  4. no no no no no no no no no no did I say no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. My versed comment, this was a rant and nothing more. I have no intentions of putting versed in my soda and going to sleep. Just a rant and nothing more. in fact I'd not be able to get any versed anyway, it's too locked up tight.
  6. you gotta post the solution
  7. ok, I spent most of yesterday sleeping but I did get to see some of the news and some of the festivities. I know this is a historic event and all that but I felt like the media and all the people who were being interviewed were just creaming all over themselves. It was like Obama is going to solve all our problems and make it all better. Wake up people, Obama will no solve all your problems. YOU have to do that. The government will try to get under your skin and take control of places in your life that you don't want them to. I think we all need to be vigilent and protective of the freedoms that we have. I truly hope Obama and those elected will fix some things but remember, the democrats and republicans in power were in power before Obama got in and look how well they have done before Obama. A do nothing congress will be a do nothing congress. I truly hope that things will get better, I went from a 100K a year job to a 35K a year job in October and I am hurting. Really hurting financially. All is not well here. I hope it gets better. Obama and his minions cannot do any worse than George Bush but let me tell you one thing, I was better off in the bush presidency than I was in the clinton presidency and the reagan presidency. I start out the Obama tenure being worse off now than I was just 5 months ago. I'm ranting and raving here because I've had a terrible morning and I need to vent. I'm going to go and get a soda and put 25 of versed in it. Maybe I can go to sleep and wake up to everything the way it was before I switched jobs.
  8. Happiness, that is so true but this day is really hard for me. That is all.
  9. I see no accident that happened just a spin out. Maybe too fast for conditions but maybe not. Case in point, we were responding to a mvc out in our county. It was icy. We had to go. We were going about 5-7 miles per hour and we hit a patch of ice. WE spun out and ended up sideways in the roadway like these guys did. Were we going too fast for the road conditions, yeah probably so, do we deserve to get fired, NOPE NOPE NOPE. So without a proper connotation to this incident we have no way of knowing what to think. We can sit here as a collective judgemental group, which we are by the way, and say fire the driver etc but until we know all the particulars there is no call to fire these drivers.
  10. but that's not the thing that is the problem crotch. It's other stuff. That is all.
  11. There are times that I hate being married. That is all.
  12. a quality 5th post. I just can't get around what the hell you are ranting about. Can anyone translate?
  13. No where in the constitution does it say anyone has the Right to vote. I can't find it anywhere. All those disinfranchised voters in the south and in florida do not have the automatic right to vote. In colonial times only those men who were landholders could vote if I remember right. There is no Constitutional right to vote. Don't let anyone tell you differently But if you listen to all those liberals like al shrapton, jesse "i want to cut your dick off" Jackson and Maxine "My water Broke" Waters, it seems that the constitution does give people a right to vote. Don't believe em.
  14. Ok, I am one of the people he was referring to regarding the pm's and other emails. I did indeed receive a text message that said some very incriminating things even going so far as to link Crotchity with both Iamyourgod and also Somedic. I did discuss this with Crotch on several occasions and I came off with the belief that he was neither Iamyourgod nor was he Somedic. Crotch you and I have had several good discussions as well as you have caused me to have one or two subarachnoid bleeds on some of your posts. I for one have become accustomed to you and your posts and I welcome them to continue. It is a shame that people do this but maybe EMTbasic_911_911 is at the heart of all this discourse. Who knows.
  15. I can remember one burn patient a while back that took my arsenal of 200mg of demerol and 100mg of morphine before we got good steady pain control. Our transport time from the scene to the burn unit was about an hour. We went directly from the scene based on the burn and the helicopters not flying. I RSI'd her before we left so I had a controlled airway. The burn center was the closest trauma center too so she got to the care she needed.
  16. I think that if they are already on a fentanyl patch that they are going to want to add more fent but I think that they will be pretty tolerant of any additional fentanyl that you give them. Adding morphine might be a good adjunct to the pain regimen. But you can give more fentanyl than really morphine without worrying about their resp status. I give a lot a fentanyl in the field so I'm sort of biased on fentanyl but if you do both then that's a better idea at least to me it is.
  17. CTX, thank you very much but our service has not seen a infected iv site or injection site or blood draw site in nearly 3 years so our stick procedures and policies I don't believe need to be revamped. I can say that I've seen several infected sites that were done by other services. But I do see where you are coming from and what iffing is just counterproductive. Peace out.
  18. True, you do have the right and ability to go elsewhere if you don't like the paperwork requirements of an employer. And absolutely there could be the unscrupulous worker who could do the same things that I referred to as a new employee. Everyone of us in this group sans a few are weeks away from financial ruin. You get injured and not able to work at all then where's the money gonna come from. If you have the financial backing that some of us have, not me though, you might be able to survive several weeks or a month or more but remember the bills do not stop even though you have stopped working. This is why programs such as Dave Ramsey's the total money make over are so important now a days. They consist of baby steps in getting your financial affairs in order Step 1 - fund an emergency fund of 1000.00 that you can easily get to but is to be used for emergencies. True emergencies such as car repairs that would keep you from getting to work or furnace repairs and similar. Step 2 - debt snowball - pay off your debt which usually takes about 18-26 months Step 3 - begin to develop a 2nd emergency fund which is equal to 6 months of your current salary. This takes a while Once you get these 3 steps done then financially you are pretty well off. One other thing, you have to get rid of the credit cards. I know that's hard but I'll bet that most of everyone's debt is credit card based. I know mine is. If anyone wants any more info on the Dave Ramsey plan go to www.daveramsey.com or contact me.
  19. Dwayne, I know you, you intentionally left the login open.
  20. Dude, don't you realize that even though AK paid for it all I believe it was AK and I and I repeat I who arranged for this suaret. I believe that I helped get everyone hotel rooms or at least suggested the hotel. So what little credit I will take is that it was truly AK and my idea. But I'll take a lowercase "our" credit.
  21. The job I'm at now requested a credit check on me, a urine drug screen, and a physical. I passed all pretty good. AS for the credit check: the employer also will get a good idea as to who might be a risk for taking things that are the employers. consider this, you have a really nice laptop for the truck. The employee who has terrible credit is statistically at higher risk to need quick money to possibly cover expenses. What better than to snag that laptop and sell it. Not saying that those who have bad credit will do this but they are at higher risk of doing it. Statistics can be your friend or your enemy. Employers also have the right to view your web history. for those of us with myspace pages or personal websites, caveat emptor.
  22. Dwayne it really has been a while overseas hasn't it. Get a room oh wait, you're at your house. I'm really pissed though, AK and I invited you, wendy and matt to our party yet you don't bother inviting me or AK WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. I have 6 of them one for my wife one for my son one for me one as a spare when one is in the washer and one for each of my cars. They are incredibly comfortable and warm. I got the ones with 2 pockets. I don't really care what it looks like. Besides, the KKK uniforms are white and the snugglys are blue or maroon. They are also open in the back. I think the KKK robes are not. Plus they are missing the swastikas, burning crosses and lynched individuals.
  24. no disclaimer needed ccmedoc my opinion was also stated too yet ctx resorted to an immature response. I've discussed this with our service directors and if this is passed in Missouri if it ever comes up this will be a non-issue with them since we are already hospital based they will continue to come to the lab here at our hospital to get the blood drawn. Non-issue. By the way, who will bill for this service that these emt's provide? How will it be billed? what happens when your only aLS truck is on a scene of a wreck or at the jail providing this service to the police and a chest pain or whatever comes out on the other side of the county when you could have been in a central location. A lot of what if's on this one but is the community going to stand for this-oh yeah, if they don't know this is happening they can't complain right.
  25. CTX, there you go again showing your immature side and a side of you I have only just begun to see. You don't like someone's arguments and you either make light of it or you demean it. That's professional I say. so CTX, the protocols you have don't need to be set up by a physician. drawing blood is on the physician's head so medical control either orders blood draws or your protocols say do it. That is what i mean by ordered by a physician. Everything you do has a physicians name all over it. You don't do anything in the ambulance that a physician has not already signed off on. Start a line, a physician has either ordered it or it's in your physician approved protocols. Give a medication and that is ordered by the physician be it standing orders or not. Why is this any different. You have blood draws for the Police, we do too. But it falls under a protocol that we have that we do this. our medical director approved this protocol. I'm sorry to tell everyone here but the liberal protocols some of us work under are approved by a physician medical director. If your protocols are not approved by a physician then I'm not sure if I want to work where you are working. There is no need to get all snippy and sarcastic. I have seen and I am sure you have to seen an infected IV site, an infected injection site and the like. So don't lecture me on the fact that it won't happen. It does. We do very little to our patients in the ambulance that a physician already has not ordered or has not approved via standing orders. I work in a service that allows liberal use of medications, procedures and I rarely have to call and request anything that I use but that doesn't mean that these are not ordered by a physician. In the end, the physician is the one who's head is on the chopping block when something I do was wrong or the protocol is not up to date because his medical license is over our service.
