  1. I er.... never got your dues, um I mean, I spent your dues on cheap sunglasses and wierd women. But I did get a cool new laptop for christmas. Thanks RVFC
  2. Me, Being one of the only 3 members of the Ruffems volunteer fan club I was voted out as Grand Poobah (the other members were Myself and I), what a bunch of immature and irresponsble members in that organization. they are so unprofessional. They suckage all the worst of life out of their members. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh
  3. ok, on further investigation the article referenced was the Brady book and not the Bledsoe book. My bad. But I emailed Dr. Bledsoe and he did not concur with this article's premise on the left arm blood pressure. I'll try to find contact information with the brady people.
  4. I have often been thanked for helping someone but it's times like the one you described that makes it all worthwhile. I had a 12 year old mentally retarded boy come up to me in Walmart the other day and give me a hug. He remembered me from nearly 7 years ago when I took care of him in the ER. I cannot for the life of me remember what he was in the ER for but he was pretty sick. He said "I remember you when I was sick" I talked to his parents and they thanked me also. But to remember someone over 7 years later who took care of you for less than 2 hours really meant a lot to me. He is the one who gave me my nickname "cornflake" and as he walked away he said "Bye Cornflake" What a neat memory.
  5. we knew the flight crew very very very well. In fact they actually put a for sale sign on the back of our ambulance about 2 months earlier. We didn't catch it for 2 days until another ambulance crew called us and asked how much we wanted for the ambulance. We promised vengeance and they never believed us until that night the sign went on their bird.
  6. Crotch I find offense in your last comment. You are lumping everyone in here who has not commented or has commented as racist or members of the Klan. this entire post is offensive to me and I urge admin to lock this one. You yourself used racist terms in a previous post. You again bring in a thread to intentionally start some sort of shit storm and when you are called on things you evade the questions asked. I for one am done with any of your next threads. All they do is divide this group and you may think you are doing this group a favor, I for one won't bite. Two of my best friends are black, and they both happen to be homosexual. I have never dated a black woman but that does not make me racist and don't think about accusing me of being racist based on that. I have not told a black joke, or italian joke, or woman joke, or asian, jewish, starfish, nemo, mermaid or shrek joke this year. But I've heard them all. I just choose not to repeat them. I'm done with these threads since your intention so far is to invite dissention.
  7. Isn't this statement racist in itself?
  8. ok, I have one. I'll admit I did one practical joke in past WE had a helicopter crew who flew down to try to get a patient transfer. By the time they arrived a snow storm started and they had to spend the night here. We put the paper bed covers - you know the kind that doctors offices use in the roll to pull out and cover a bed for a new patient. We took about 12 feet of it and wrote FOR SALE CALL 911 on the paper and then taped it to the helicopter, took a picture and showed the helicopter crew.
  9. admin, never tried to discourage him from looking for this stuff or asking us here. But... I spent about an hour last night on the net, searching for these types of lights and was unable to find them. If he does find them, I'd encourage him to post where he got them because others might want a set too.
  10. Then you should do fine and have no real problems taking this course. Who knows, we might be classmates if you want to attend that class.
  11. narcan and romazicon didn't work???? wow if he was positive for the stuff you say he was that should have woke his butt up but I tend to agree with your assessment that he was so profoundly hypoxic that his brain was mush which then leads me to believe that the narcan and the romazicon did their job but his brain was just jello. The other clue I got was that he had no gag reflex which many of the Opiate or xanax overdoses I've run and had to intubate at least had some sort of minor or very limited gag reflex. I suspect your patient will be sending you a christmas card from the long term vegetative patient wing at the local nursing home for years to come. This is just how the cookie crumbles on some calls. You did what you were supposed to do and these things just happen but I suspect that I'm not giving you any new insight on these types of calls or the outcomes. You seem like a pretty smart guy and probably already know this fact. take care and be safe out there.
  12. and so it will start. It is a widely held opinions of many on this board that people should not be responding in their personal vehicles. if you are looking for wireless stuff for your department's vehicles then by all means ask away but many will tell you their thoughts on people responding in their personal vehicles to scenes.
  13. http://www.firerescue1.com/fire-news/44425...ck-by-car-dies/ sounds like the driver of the car that hit her fled the scene more info here http://www.delawareonline.com/article/2008...S/81222025/1006
  14. Closest one I know of to oklahoma is in Blue Springs Missouri http://cjcfpd.org/cjc/index.php?option=com...3&Itemid=53 not sure of the experience qualifications they have in order to take the course but I would suspect that one with less than a year as a medic or less than 500 or so calls would be a distinct disadvantage in this class. But I could be wrong. The course is in June 2009
  15. here we go again another dead horse to be beaten to a pulp. We have all worked or know workers who are gay. SO WHAT. As long as the homosexual person does not touch me or talk to me inappropriately I don't give a crap if they are gay. I don't agree with their lifestyle choice but I don't treat them any differently than any other person that I work with. Another moral dilemma on the threads. Crotch here are the next topics of your future threads remember the first black partner you worked with. Remember the first mentally ill partner you worked with remember the first hispanic partner Remember your first pregnant partner you worked with remember the first white anglo saxon non gay, non hispanic, non nuts partner??? We'll wait for you to make these polls
  16. Hi there lady from Jax florida Is that forensic science? You aren't going to the ITT technical institute are you? I've seen ads for that place. If you are going there what do you think of it? Have fun here at the city?
  17. It's a copyrighted article and I cannot post it here. I'll see if I can get permission from the editors. It's found on the website www.ems-ce.com but to see the article you have to be a member of the site.
  18. by the looks of that picture it's photoshopped in. It's too perfect looking to be an actual ambulance on the street.
  19. Hey DocZ so the quote I put in the original post is wrong or is it suspect? I talked to 2 physicians and 2 critical care nurses as well as the two other medics I'm working with and they all think that what was in the article was wrong. The question I have is if the article is correct in what it says, then why by taking the blood pressue in the left arm would this cause back pressure and cause the aneurysm to rupture? I think the author is incorrect. As do the group I talked to today. If it is incorrect I want to send a request for correction or clarification to the author of the article.
  20. you can aways make a bls patient into a als patient if you document creatively enough. Of course I would never ever ever ever advocate that.
  21. I read a couple of the posts on that forum and they were good thought out posts. I'm not going to go off and join that forum as one forum for me is enough but the one on dying was pretty thought provoking.
  22. I misspoke - Lones post was funny
  23. I was going over some CEU articles tonight and found something that I am unsure is correct and if it is correct, just what is the pathophysiology behind it. this is what was written in the article: "If blood pressue is taken on the left side, it can cause additional back pressure on th aneurysm and cause rupture." I've not heard this or if I have it went in one ear and out the other. Can someone tell me (Doc's and you know who you are feel free to chime in here) what the pathophysiology behind this is? I'll be doing some of my own research but I'm sure the docs or others can enlighten me and the board members. thanks in advance.
  24. none of those items fit me. I have never been called a jerk in a working relationship.
  25. all my ideas are excellent in principle it seems All I'm saying is that with the 2 hours of rape education that most providers have and maybe the only education that they have is the 2 pages in the paramedic/emt book that anything is better than nothing. I'm not advocating that we train our people to be able to counsel and if a medic takes the training that my suggestion proffers and begins to counsel the victim then that medic is wrong. We are not rape counselors but the education provided can mean the difference between saying the right thing and saying the wrong thing. Each specific rape or sexual assault is different and you take each one on it's own merits but wouldn't it be nice to have the foundation to be able to begin to make the victim feel like someone cares. To make the victim no longer feel like a piece of meat but a person who just underwent a terrifyingly traumatic experience??? I've not dealt with a rape victim in many years and I've not had the education to begin to help these people out but I do know that I can be a ear and shoulder for them to cry on, a sounding board and someone who is absolutely non-judgemental about their ordeal. There are many times that we as providers can either make a positive difference/impression or be the most destructive instrument post rape. My wife was raped in college, a girl who I had romantic intentions with was raped and killed in her apartment one night(they caught the guy and ruled me out as a suspect ha ha) , and I have taken care of a 5 year old rape victim. That is my experience.
