  1. Due to budget cuts, you will find that many schools have a nurse only on grounds at specified times. I know that the schools in my parents district, they have 3 nurses to cover 11 schools. So the nurse has specified hours for each school each day to go and administer any medication that the little bundles of joy require. It is up to the office staff or the teachers to provide immediate care on the other times and then either call the parents or 911 to get the help that is needed when the nurse is not there. Sad aint it? I rmember when I was in school, there was a nurse on site from 6am to 4pm every day in each school. Not anymore. In the district that we live in right now, I'm not sure about but our kids are homeschooled so it's not a issue for us. As for this district involved, I don't know if there was a nurse or not, but even if there was, I suspect that this child would still have the same outcome because it seems like no-one on site knew what the hell to do. But again, we can't rush to judgement here because we are relying on the media to present us the facts and we all know how "kind" the media is when it comes to sensational stories like this. Either way, the district is going to be run through the ringer on this one and if it turns out that they should be, then rightly so, but let's not rush to judgement here.
  2. But then I don't get away with plausible deniability ya know.
  3. There is always more to the story but we only have the "media" to tell it. I also heard, just as Doc posted, that he rode in with the crew and left the original patient there with the sole provider which if true, he SHOULD have been suspended if not fired for. That would be a fireable offense for any service that I have ever worked for. But there have been many many on this forum who have all said to the effect that if they drove up on a scene, while transporting a patient (car accident scene for example) that they would not stop and they would continue transporting their patient but they would make sure that they called 911 to get ems rolling to that accident. Why is this any different? Is it? I would have stopped, made sure the patient in the back was still stable and then I would have gotten out to help. Even if the patient was unstable I think I would have stopped. I have two incidents where I have done just that. 1. transporting a stable chest wall patient, two medics in the back, me in the drivers seat. choking unresponsive baby call came in that we were 2 blocks from, closest als unit was 5 miles away. We ascertained that the patient was stable and then we stopped. We were able to clear this childs airway (baby was blue and not breathing on our arrival) and basically prevent the need for cpr on a 4 month old. Waited for the ALS unit to arrive and then we continued transport. Got a commendation out of that one. 2. Had a 89 year old lady at the nursing home we were transporting for a fractured hip, had a call come in for a unresponsive 9 year old post fall from the roof. We were the only ambulance in the county. The next ambulance that could get there was approx 35 minutes away. First responders were on scene ventillating the boy and had him packaged, we were a couple blocks away, We responded over, picked him up, transported him to the ER and ended up flying him out shortly after his arrival at the ER. His recovery was not as good as the child in number 1 but it would have been much worse had we had waited for the 2nd ambulance. Judgement calls on both, yes, but correct judgement calls in my opinion. Did I get suspended for either call? no I didn't because they were done for the good of the patient rather than the good of the service. But I can see how it could have gone the other way for both as well. And had it have gone the other way I would have taken the suspension, not happily but I would have knowing that I did the right thing at the time.
  4. Couldn't watch much of that. What I meant to say is that that was painful to watch, I need some dilaudid now.

  6. Actually he was!!! And as for suspects, his wife is the suspect but she said that she got tired of chatting on the phone with pointy headed dudes every night at 3am rather than cuddling with her.
  7. I just read somewhere on the Internets that Jake from State Farm was found dead in his bedroom, according to the news, he was having an affair and his wife killed him. I read it on the net. IT has to be true right???
  8. And I make sure to slam all 8 mg of narcan in them right before I open the ER doors. Especially when said ED had just sent me on a 9 hour round trip with Angus the foot fungus monster.

  12. I'm thinking that the federal regulators might have a lot to say about this merger.
  13. I have reservations about this, big reservations, I mean if the feds have problems with a cable company buying another cable company and saying no to them, then I can't imagine they will allow this merger. They will have to prove true benefit to the consumer on this merger.
  14. wasn't trying to piss anyone off. I'm glad doogs is back and absolutely no offense was intended.
  15. LEt me reference it here - hang on Take a look at this - this is what I thought you were referencing

  20. http://www.phoenixcollege.edu/academics/programs/emergency-medical-technology/award/advanced-emergency-medical-technology-paramedic-aas#program-prerequisites https://www.mesacc.edu/programs/paramedic https://nau.edu/chhs/health-sciences/degree-programs/paramedic-care/ Here is a sample of the community college that is near me, their paramedic AAS program. You could get your pre-requisites done now and then go for the others listed at a different school. http://www.mcckc.edu/degreescourses/degrees/AASParamedic.pdf Just a start I would think.
  21. gotcha, well let me look around and see what might be out there that you are missing. One question - are you set on getting the Associates? Why not go directly to the Bachelors program? Do you absolutely have to have the associates?
  22. What are you wanting to get your associates in? That might help us in helping you find programs that are 100% online.
  23. so what program are you trying to do?
  24. I think that with all the other options of online education that you just tell them that you are going elsewhere. But I'm not sure if you are pidgeonholed to this particular dog and pony show. But isn't there some way to go to someone higher in the food chain, someone who speaks a more fluent language, like let's say English??? I do see your frustration though.
