I had a patietn going for a liver transplant she asked if she was going to die. I told her I didn't know She then told me "I know I'm going to heaven" and I asked how she knew that and she said that the guy at the end of the bench seat told her. I asked her who the guy was and she said it was jesus. She said "He told me to tell you that you are going to heaven too" There was no-one at the end of the bench seat but she was seeing him clear as day. She died shortly thereafter while waiting on a liver. I have no doubt that she is in heaven right now.

Had a crew who called us in as 2nd unit in on cardiac arrest. Not sure why we got called but I'm glad we did. Unresponsive patient, cpr in progress. Asked how long down and they said witnessed Patietn passed out in the ambulance. CPR started I noticed that each time the medic in question compressed the chest the patients face grimaced. We started towards the hospital and I asked to hold cpr - she did. Patient started to moan and then cry I asked the patient some questions and she said she felt each and every one of the countless compressions but she couldn't wake up. she had abounding pulse of 135, a bp of 108/74 and a unassisted resp rate of 20 The monitor originally showed asystole but it was a great sinus tach of 135 The patient said she had seizures without seizure activity and it took her some time to awaken from them. This person suffered 4 broken ribs, a broken sternum and spent a night in the hospital for pain control. A All because a medic out of school less than 6 months panicked and started cpr on a seizure patient. Her response when confronted with the facts was that she hadn't checked a pulse and treated the monitor. I'm not sure what happened to her after that but I know she quit the job and went to work somewhere in a rural area.

for the circling the drain comment, many times the nurse cannot get ahold of the doctor to get the order to transport unitl it's nearly too late. If you think that the nursing home is putting the patient in jeopardy there are phone numbers to call to express your discontent but be sure to have all your ducks in a row. Remember, many times your nursing homes are your bread and butter and if they are pissed at you watch out. Accusations of scam are hard to prove. If you can't prove it, then stop bitching.

anytime a goverment official or a union rep claims you will be making a profit just turn that number around and consider it a loss. They are never never right. Look at Massachussetts healthcare - over budget Look at any highway project and you will see cost over-runs out the wazoo Look at the new bridge in Minneapolis - I understand it is over budget, behind schedule and has a negative satsifaction rate to the stakeholders. Never never trust a government official to give you the true cost up front. anyone who trusts them is as dumb as a box of rocks and I have a bridge to nowhere I wanna sell em.

one of two things come to mind My cousin has mini seizures that present exactly like this. Her EMT partner noticed them and he told her about em. She is now under treatment for them. Or... I would suspect narcolepsy but.... with this presentation exactly like my cousins I'd suspect seizures until ruled out other wise. yeah yeah yeah I'm back.

another update ok, I still need a break but things look up for me at least for a bit I got the 30 day letter and I have 27 days now left on my employment ticker. I got a job offer as a paramedic in the same town I started as a medic at. I took the job. I am still goign to be paid my salary at my current work thru the end of November which is a blessing. So I get a paycheck on October 31 and on November 30. Full paycheck on the 31 of oct and a 2/3 paycheck on November 30 so we will not be struggling until January. I start at the new medic job on November 10 and look forward to it. I'm still angry at the entire situation and I know that will pass but I count my blessings. My brother has been out of work for three months and the money he got for his severance package is set to run out the end of this month. I'm doing better. I thank you for the kind words. I have 120 hours of ceus left to take and then I'll be done with my relicensure. Chow for now.

I said I wasn't going to post for a while but you all deserved an update, so here it is. I just got my email from the company. They tell me that I have 30 days of employment left. If they dont' find me aproject in 30 days then I'm fired. I cannot say how much this pisses me off. By no fault of my own I am getting terminated because the company does not have a project for me. It's not fair if you ask me but I know life aint fair so I got to find a new job. I just wanted to thank those of you who have PM'd me and also written here. I might come back a few times just to update on the job situation but as of right now it does not look good. Where the hell is my freaking bailout????

Ok, life comes at ya fast, I can attest. I am unloading here. I am taking a near total break from all internet activities for the foreseable future. I have been having a terrible stretch of luck and it's taking it's toll. I am stopping all chatting, posting, lurking, gaming and everything except my current employer requirements. I may or may not be back here but who knows but as of this posting, it is my last for who knows how long. I feel a tremendous weight on my shoulders and I'm not sure where to turn to get it off. At times I feel I just want to get in my car and take a road trip but my financial difficulties right now preclude it. So I don't know where to go. I'm not getting alot out of my church right now either. I'm looking at losing my job of 2 years which paid >90K per year and taking a paramedic job making 60K or so less. My son see's my moods and he doesn't knwo what to do. My wife says how can she help but I just don't want to unload it on her. UMStudent, I totally agree. I just wanted a good overview and this article spenac posted was exactly what I wanted. The department I am going to is a very progressive department and they have quarterly training/OR time(I think) and a airway registry. I think I'm in good hands.
