Chaplains in an ambulance...
Just Plain Ruff replied to akflightmedic's topic in General EMS Discussion
DUST DUST DUST You seem to be back yet you seem not to be your old self. Did you have a clot break off when you were broken? I'm so glad to see you back posting. I do believe that chaplains and pastors and the like could (read could) provide a valuable service but not while ridin on the ambulance. They can be there as observers like I said before. But apart from that not a good idea. Waht I am getting at is it might be a good idea to employ a couple of chaplains but those chaplains have to understand that they are not to push their religion on anyone. If the patient asks for it then by all means do it. I also think that the chaplains need to be more of like Father Mulcahy from MASH who was sort of a chaplain of all trades and was able to provide comfort to all religions not just catholics. If they can separate the religions and provide for all people then let's hire a gaggle of them. -

Sure they can ride-along to get an idea of what goes on on a daily basis but to have this a regular occurrence is not in what I consider as beneficial to my job. I would welcome the chaplain but only on a sporadic or occasional basis. -

Brent, I think you are missing the point of the discussion, at least mine. I never said that they would be on 24/7/365 I distinctly said that I don't agree with them on the ambulances. I am all for them to be available when requested or that they respond to the calls that are determined to most likely need a chaplain like cardiac arrests, pediatric calls of many many serious types, calls of dead bodies that the crews request them on or anything else that would fit a specific criteria. I do not see the need for a chaplain on the ambulance at really any time except in rare circumstances. But to put them on the ambulances as a semi permanent or to ride an entire shift is not a good idea. Pastors and priests are too busy tending to their flock for this type of thing. -

pilot program 4 chaplains. I'd assume if it went well they would want to expand it. I never said there would be one in every ambulance. I would have no problem with chaplain in their own chaplain Ems vehicle responding on the calls that woudl be a good idea to go on. But I do not agree with chaplains in every ambulance all the time plus I cannot see this taking off to get them in all the ambulances. -

bad idea. I have enough to worry about witout having to watch or keep tabs on a chaplain Plus there are many people out there who do not agree with the Assemblies of God beliefs. There will be just as many people who do not believe in baptists, methodists and the like. I can also see the headlines, "patient in ambulance given last rites by chaplain" which might just as well be the headline when the news gets thru with it, not ever taking into account that these chaplains were riding along on all runs. If I need a chaplain in my line of work I'l request one but not one to ride with me each shift. Maybe giving them time with a supervisor or their own vehicles to responsd to the scene or respond with us. Who knows but not in the back of my ambulance. -
leaning? Leaning what? I really do know what you mean though.

Lying for what? (venting a little...)
Just Plain Ruff replied to mshow00's topic in General EMS Discussion
A simple mask is not the appropriate mask to use for shortness of breath if the patient's MV is more than 6L unless you run it at 10L. Even at that, a patient who is short of breath will probably want more than that easily. A NRBM is also not considered to be a high flow device because only 15 L/m is the cut off flow from that /Quote Ventmedic I wonder how many here can calculate a MV? -

I'd like to go to work for any place where I don't have the possibility of being shot, hit, stabbed or crushed in a truck versus ambulance. I also want to work for a company where my greatest possibility of dying is in a plane going 300 miles per hour I want a safe job where I can just be myself, not work with anyone nor be subject ot anybodies requirements except for myself. Now when I find that job I'll let ya all know -
I can remember when my son's circumcision whatnot was ready to come off. I was cleaning him and it just sort of came off in my hands. I FREAKED out with a capital F. I thought I had hurt him but he just smiled at me and said in baby talk. ga ga goo goo ga ga and he proceeded to pee on me. So I assume it didn't hurt too much to have it done but then again I wasnt' in the room when they did it. Maybe it did but I don't remember it hurting me.

Re-Obtaining NR Certification?
Just Plain Ruff replied to Christopher.Collins's topic in Education and Training
I think it all depends on how long you have been inactive. If you have been inactive for more than 2 years I think you are done for. I'd call the registry and get it from them. -
and I have an original IBM PCjr and a packard bell 386 I also programmed using punch cards and my first mainframe was a dec 100. I remember tape drives and I remember having a trs80. Does that date me too?

yeah, the books he is selling now are pretty good deals. 20 bucks for our area's book and you get that back on your 4th trip to a local supermarket. 5 bucks off a 50 dollar bill at the grocery store and then 3 more visits and spend 75 dollars each for 5 more off per visit and the book is paid for.

for anyone who has their children in private christian school I have a question - Is the school your child in always asking for money and help with fundraising. I remember my public school days where we had fundraisers but our son's school seems focused on fundraising. They actually expect the parents to participate with their children and if they do not then the parents are expected to provide some additional cash. I do not have a problem with paying whatever it costs to educate my child in the best possible way and the best school and we feel he is in the right and best school. Right now we are selling those entertanment books for my son's first fundraising effort. They are expecting 10 books per student. He has sold that number already. If anyone wants to purchase a book please pm me. I'll get you fixed up. If he sells 55 books he gets a new bike. You can purchase a book for nearly all major cities in the US. PM me and I'll set you up.

Any dispatchers out there?
Just Plain Ruff replied to ambulancetramp's topic in General EMS Discussion
come on you came in here asking if any of us were dispatchers and the proceeded to slam and denigrate dispatchers as a whole. Wy shouldn't those of us who are or have been dispatchers not be upset. Why don't you do this. why don't you take your post, show it to all your dispatchers and see what their reaction is. I'm sure that it's likely to be the same as it was here. maybe your friends might not take offense but you can see that those of us who are or have been dispatchers took offense and it sure as heck sounded like you were a hater by the tone of your post. Before you go and get all bent out of shape about our comments, go show your dispatchers your post and let's see how they react. Get them all to say "hey, she's just joshing" and we will stop and change our opinion of your post but sister we've all been there. There are a great many here who have been on both sides of the fence so yes I'm sure we do know "your" situation. Can you actually believe it took you less than 8 posts to piss many of us off? I think that's a record for any new poster. -
genetic modification of HIV immune cells
Just Plain Ruff replied to Just Plain Ruff's topic in Patient Care
I agree. If this really does work then Aids might be a thing of the past. What a terrible disease. I watched my next door neighbor die of it and also a 2nd cousin. Both got it the old fashioned way. But it was such a waste for them to die. Very similar to cancer if you ask me. -
Any dispatchers out there?
Just Plain Ruff replied to ambulancetramp's topic in General EMS Discussion
yes as a matter of fact we do like to do everything that you asked. what a hostile post in the form of a question. As a former dispatcher this is what I have to say. I used to dispatch and I loved making my crews pissed off. I also loved the fact that as a dispatcher I had certain requirements of my job and one of those requirements was to specifically piss people like you off. Remember GPS is not truly real time, you can be travelling 75 miles per hour and be at mile marker 10 yet my system may only say you are at mile marker 9.7 and in .4 miles there is a turn but by the time my system is refreshed you are at mile marker 10.5 and you missed the turn I wanted you to take. I will in the future, make sure that you have missed the turn to get to the post you need to get to and make you drive around just for fun instead of letting you sit at a local convenience store so you can get your coffee and donuts to bring to me. Our jobs in Dispatch are to make our crews a living heck. It would mean a lot to me if you brought me coffee and donuts too, I just get so much excercise moving my fat butt around in a chair, I need more fat and calories. Do I sound like someone here on this thread? -
http://www.sciencentral.com/video/2008/08/...v-immune-cells/ Who'd have thunk modifying Aids patient own immune cells to be resistent to hiv. Amazing

Do you think this is a hipaa violation?
Just Plain Ruff replied to mrsbull's topic in General EMS Discussion
i was doing some watching of the news over the past couple of weeks both at home and out of town. this was one story I saw 23 year old black female raped in this house at 2311 Elm street (can't remember the real address) at 11:30 pm. The news reporter was standing outside the house at about 10am. Guess what happened. a young female probably 23 or so walked out of the house and immediately went back in. oops, it seems like that lady might have been the rape victim. the news people are going to find this information out. It just took a stupid freaking idiot medic/emt or whatever the heck he used to be to allow his patient to be found out. nothing that happens to us anymore is private. NOTHING. This is a big deal but this information would have been found out eventually. i've always said, the more privacy we give up the harder it will be to get it back. There is nothing in your financial records, health records, criminal records and internet searching habits that is private. for example - financial records - any business with access to the 3 credit reporting bureaus can get your life credit history Any medical facility you sign a medical release for can get your medical records from other health facilities. have you ever read job apps? I'll bet somewhere in the fine print near where your signature went is a clause that says you allow that company to do any type of background check on you be it criminal, finincial or medical. There is a medical information clearinghouse(i forget the name of it) that houses all your medical records if your health practitioner is a member of it. Most if not all hospitals are members. your health history is housed there. any insurance company can get your health information without nary a wink. Have you seen a recent life insurance policy application? I just filled out a 18 page insurance application but did not submit because it gave the insurance company too big a authorization to delve into my life. I already have 1.2 mil in coverage so I realized I didn't need anymore. If you apply for a loan or whatever else you are giving up some of your rights to privacy. Does anyone read those privacy notices from the credit card companies you have cards with. they are pretty frightening in how invasive they can be. do you download software? If you do you have probably downloaded a EULA that gives the company the right to track you. Bet you didn't know that. So our privacy is just a pipe dream - we have none. -
HOLY CRAP, I didn't even catch that. No wonder why he got shaky. you try to stand on two legs that haven't worked for years.
