number 1 in a heartbeat I can live anywhere I want and teleport to wherever I need to go. This would reduce my carbon footprint(see Owl Gore, I can do something to help the environment) I could feasibly live in back ass backward, Arkansas and still go to work anywhere in the country. #1 Fart silently and no smells #2 Fart loudly and melt the paint.

number 1 jake, I'd want to foresee the future but I think that it would eventually be a curse. Can we benefit from seeing the future? #1 - never die #2 - die with dignity?

Number 1 I think that a lot of people in EMS fall into number 2 though My question now: 1. Jump off a building and forget to fall (hence the ability to fly) 2. dive in the water and forget to breath (hence the ability to breathe underwater)

DOH Homer simpson moment Ok, What if you were given the choice: 1. to be blind for the rest of your life but have everything you would ever need provided for you - or - 2. To be deaf for the rest of your life but all you would have would be the unconditional love of a spouse that provided for all your needs?

Millionaire for a day- I'd buy everything I ever wanted that way after the day was over I'd have it all still.

My song of the day is "It's a small world after all" but really my song and artist of the day is "Almost a Whisper" by Yanni. All of his songs today are my songs of the day. Throw in a good dash of Karunesh "Nirvana Cafe" and some Natalie Grant and I have a good day of music ahead of me. All in the hopes of making my tedious day go by faster.

Scotty, I agree with you. I hope I didn't give the impression that I didn't think that the alphabet classes were not worth having. Get all of them you can but leave the letters after your name off your name badge and business cards (if you have them) I intended to take ccemt-p but financial issues kept me from it and it was not offered locally. I also took a CEN course (audited it), took a ccrn class and also took every course availble to nurses at the hospital I worked at. The state of Missouri recognized these courses. Did it make me a better provider, sure but not in among themselves. you take all that you learn and put it all together in the huge hard drive that you have which is your mind and you apply what you learned to the task at hand.

I'll take on the licensure versus registered. I don't really see a difference. If the licensure and the registered title would have the same background requirements then what difference does it make if you are licensed or registered. If being registered required that you have X amount of this and x amount of that and then they went a different way and decided to change the naming convention and said you are licensed but you still have to do X amount of this and x amount of that then what difference is there in licensure versus registration? Just a title. Now for the CCEMT-P title. I would never put CCEMT-P behind my name and use it in place of my EMT-P. Missouri does not recognize that you are a CCEMT-P. If you say I'm a CCEMT-P not a EMT-P then you are holding yourself out as something you are not and like those paramedics in court were shown(which also out to be a wake up call for us out there) they look like fools. We have become a title driven society, I have behind my name Michael N. Ruff EMT-P, MPM but those are registered titles. EMT-P we all know and then I am a master of Project Management (which is what my masters degree is). To hold that you are a CCEMT-P shows vanity like BB says, and it also may be unethical to hold yourself out as a CCEMT-P when in fact, your state does not recognize that certification. A couple of friends of mine, One being a licensed therapist, the other owns his own business and is a pharmacist and another who is a computer professional all believe that the drive to get as many certifications as possible is a drive for compensating for what we perceive as something in our lives we lack. If I put all my certs behind my name this is what my business card would look have looked like in my heyday when I had all the certs. (I add CCEMT-P for emphasis) Michael Ruff, EMT-P, BA, MPM, CPR, ACLS, ACLS-I, Pals, Pals-I, BTLS, BTLS-I, ABLS, ABLS-I, NRP, PHTLS, EMT Instructor, EMT-P Instructor, CPR Instructor does anyone see the silliness of this. We need to focus on patient care and continuing education and leave the alphabet soup to the makers of Alphabits cereal or Campbells soup.

I disagree, you have a child who is wearing crocs like my son. It takes 2 seconds for him to remove his shoes. There is no way you can prove to me unless you are right on top of your child that they can't remove their crocs before you get to them. Of course you can get to them while they are taking them off or very shortly after and make them put them back on but they can get those style of shoes off very quickly. Any other style of shoes or clothing I will agree with your thoughts though. Just not crocs which if I remember is what the child was originally wearing.

plus he's the only guy I know who has a longer commute to work than I do. you will learn a lot from him and it's refreshing to see that you are skipping the work as an emt and going to get your medic right away, SMART move.

I'd have told him, you wrote me up and now you want me to do you a favor, here take this pen and see how long it takes to get it out of your rear end. If you get it out without a problem, then I'll sign it for you.

I would never dispute the fact that I as a parent am completely responsible for my childs welfare, no one other than myself and my wife are responsible. We can delegate the responsibility to others to act, in proxy, with our permission as guardians of my child. I would never shirk or shy away from that responsibility but do you honestly think that this parent in question ever once considered or asked the question --- hmmmm those black things look hot, maybe I better check on the temperature of those black things. Never in a million years because I know that I never once have questioned the temperature of that playground covering. You would think that the surface of that covering would never get hot enough to cause 3rd degree burns to a childs feet. I can almost bet that no adult who was in charge of putting this type of covering on a playground even thought about testing the temperature. I bet that was not even in their testing of the materials. While I was on the playground with my son I did a little test, 93 degrees in the shade. I touched the playground covering and they were warm but not HOT!!! I also tested it out in different places and the temperature was different in different places. In the shade the temp of the covering was warm, in the direct sunlight the temperature was warm up to hot but not hot enough to burn a childs feet in a short period of time. I tested it in several different locations and the temps were never hot enough that I thought my sons feet would burn. I suspect that at the playground that the child burned his feet at that there was something more going on in the covering. Was this the same type of covering as the one I was testing out or was this more of a plastic covering rather than black matte rubber? Was there some other composition of the covering that pre-disposed that particular playground to become much hotter than the one I was testing. So with this discussion on the forums in my head I did a quick search of playgrounds in the Springfield massachussetts area and found several different types of coverings. 1. black rubber scraps - like tires shredded and placed 5-6 inches thick. 2. Wood chips 3. Black matte(finish) rubber covering 4. and a shiny black near plastic consistency covering. Even at 7:45 last night when I found number 4, it was very hot to the touch. I don't know if it would have burned feet but it was quite hot and the sun was not even directly over it. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 all were not hot at all. I suspect that the type of covering is the key to all this and the causal factor of this childs injury. The quesiton I have is was the covering that burned the childs feet number 1, 2, 3 or 4. I suspect #4. I know this is a bit long but I now know, that the covering I found in Springfield, if it exists in my town I will not use it. Just a bunch of thoughts.

oh darn, I guess I'll keep my day job as a consultant. I make more than they do anyway, and I'll bet my next paycheck that I make more than mr. Stir the pot writer too. -
Ok, I got this from the news section on the front page of the forum. I'm really perplexed at the statement about 100K salaries. If this is true, I'm gonna drop my medic cert and go all out to get a job in this jurisdiction. Is the author an idiot or just uninformed? http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2008/jul/28/let...head-injury-vi/ Here's the story. Assembling some of the information from the News leads me to the opinion that EMT service in our county can be provided at significantly lower cost. Example: On July 3, a woman goes down in the Jensen Beach Winn Dixie. EMT responds (the rapidity and quality of response is beyond question). The response includes one fire truck and two firefighters/EMTs; one rescue EMT truck and two firefighter/EMTs; and one 4-wheel SUV with a firefighter/EMT supervisor. Three vehicles and five EMTs. The patient was a diminutive woman — a senior citizen — who sustained a head injury. I learned later that she was treated at the hospital and released. She certainly needed EMT rapid response. But five men and three trucks? This level of response might be needed for a 350-pound casualty, but for a 120-pound woman at the initial call? Too much! I connect (in my mind) this response pattern with the reported number of $100,000-plus EMT salaries in the county. Too much. Reviewing and revising the response patterns — and, therefore, the needed staff patterns — can be an area for productive change. Donald Johnson Jensen Beach

I am collecting the codes off the caps of coke products and also the caps off the pepsi products. My son has his heart set on a couple of items inthe catalog and since I drink diet coke and diet pepsi I said to myself hey I can drink my way to prize heaven. If anyone out there in EMT City land drinks pepsi or coke products and you do not turn in the codes on the caps, would you consider sending me the codes in a PM. I'll take as many as I can get. I only have 18 more pepsi caps to get him a small digital photo keychain. I have a lot more coke rewards points to get him what he wants from coke. The boxes for 12 pack and 24 pack's give me 10 points and 20 points respectively. So in conclusion, if you drink coke or pepsi and do not currently turn in the codes from the caps, please consider sending those codes to me. It would make my son happy. thanks.
