New Contest - running until Jan 31

The spec of your ambulance will differ from everyone elses and that's how this contest is supposed to work. One person will spec it out one way while another person will spec it out completely different. I don't have an issue with you using google or whatever online sources you have to use I just do not want to go to a website and see that you have taken what that website has and used it as your own. That will get you disqualified. Just don't plagiarize. If you have an online source then by all means use it but don't plagiarize. As for the equipment - I don't care what equipment you use. You can use a small garden hose cut up to make ET tubes if you want. this is your ambulance to spec out. You choose what goes in it. You choose the interior packages, you choose your emergency lighting packages. What radios you use are your choices. Everyone's ambulance will look different than another that is why there are no less than 20 ambulance manufacturers out there the same as multiple car manufacturers. You can choose whatever currency you want to use. If you choose Australian currency just make sure to make the amount equal 187K in us dollars. Here is a currency converter http://www.xe.com/ucc/ Here is 187000 in us dollars converted to Australian dollars 217116.28 So if you are spec out an ambulance in australian dollars you have roughly 217K to spend in australian dollars. A few others are as follows but you have the choice of any currency in the world. But a safe bet would be to stick with us dollars, australian currency, euros or british pounds. Canadian dollars are roughly equal to what our dollar is worth which is crap. (sorry bout that) If you went Euros - then you would have 129K to spend give or take a euro or two. If you go Canadian dollar - you have 187,791K to spend Yen - 21million yen Pound - 94k pounds Russian Ruble - 4.2 million rubles chinese yuan - 1.3 million Norwegian Kroners - 1.04million and finally Mexican Pesos - 2,027,054 pesos So use whatever currency you want. But remember to state which currency you are using. Just make sure you put in your document what currency you used and how much the amount was you had to spend. -

A warning about The use of Google in your search to win this contest. Use Google sparingly. I have multiple search engines that I use on a regular basis. Some are very very good and some are much better than Google. I have found at least 40 web pages on google as well as hundreds in my alternate searches that do a great job in spec'ing these ambulances out. A word of warning, do not use these pages as the basis of your submission. We will find out if you use these pages. The prizes are coming out of my pocket and I will not tolerate cheating on this contest. Just a word to the wise. -
Thoughts on this one, anyone?

oh one more thing, the money is only to be used in the purchase of the ambulance. Any money left over goes back into the bank for next years budget purposes. There is no guarantee that you will have that money to use for next year if next years budget process goes sourly. So if you have 45K left over then you essentially will lose that 45k. So if you do have 45K left over then what kind of vehicle or equipment would you want to purchase. You cannot use the money left over to fund additional paramedics but..... you can use that money to fund a mechanic if you want. -

ok, let me clarify the recent drawing of the red white and blue ambulance in I believe it was Fiznats post is what you are NOT striving for. It is either canadian or Us funds whichever you are more comfortable using. And no it does not have to be just a Als ambulance - it can be a bls ambulance. And no none of the judges have been tasked with this in real life. I can tell you that I took a contract procurement class in my masters degree program and I did this exact thing but that was7 years ago. The tie breaker judge just did spec an ambulance out in the past year so I'm going to use him as tie breaker judge. Any more questions? -

Please read this in it's entireity. If you don't read it all then you will not win the contest. READ IT ALL Good luck The great 2008 EMT City Contest(when I said it was a doozy, I did not lie) This contest will be open to all members of EMTcity except the judges of the contest. The judges are Ruffems(lead judge), Dustdevil, and Itku2er. In case of a tie Breaker I will be submitting the entries to a friend who just spec’d out a quarter million dollar ambulance and took delivery of it several weeks ago. Your task is this: You have to spec out an ambulance from wheels to ceiling and everything inbetween. Details will follow. Your budget is $187,000 all inclusive budget. You can NOT go over budget or your entry will fail. If you go to far under budget then your entry will fail unless you have a very very good reason as to why you went way under budget. If you can spec out two ambulances for $187,000 then that’s fine but remember, you have to buy the ambulance, equip it and then put supplies in it. Your entry needs to be very detailed. You must account for every thing you spec out. If you spec out a zoll defibrillator then you must put it’s price in the document. If you spec out a light bar package then you must include what you think the price would be. I did say I wanted this detailed right? Make sure you put in the document a list of costs - prices of each piece. At the end of the document you must put the total the ambulance will cost Here are the requirements. 1. You must spec out an ambulance. This ambulance package needs to include size, shape and numerical dimensions. If the height is to be 100 inches tall then make sure you put that in the specs. a. Spec out the ambulance chassis b. Spec out the ambulance cab c. Spec out how you want the patient area to look and what dimensions etc. that the cabinets will be. d. Spec out what kind of flooring you will use. e. Spec out what kind of material you will use on the counters and the bench seat and captains chair. f. Any other items that I didn’t include. 2. Spec out the light package 3. Spec out what the crew cab will have in it. 4. Spec out what radios you will use 5. Spec out the hard equipment that you will use. This needs to be specific. Do not skimp here on your descriptions. I am not going to help you on this one because you should be able to figure this part out 6. Spec out what soft equipment such as bandages and other stuff you will put in the unit. 7. What medications will you carry and the quantities you will have on stock. 8. I have intentionally left some stuff off in order to make you think. When you have finished your specifications, you will need to email me your specification document to emtcitycontest@gmail.com In the document in the first line of the document you must put your real name, your emtcity username and your phone number. That way I can contact you if you are a winner. No information, no contact. The reason I am having you email me your entry is that I do not want people waiting until the last minute of the contest to use someone elses work as their own. I know that would not happen here but it might, you never ever know. You can send questions regarding the cost of equipment and which is better etc but if you post your entry or any part of your entry which another person could use in their entry, then your participation is null and void. For example if you posted a paragraph about the crew cab, including what all was in it and what kind of radio and equipment is in your specs, and you posted prices and all this would push someone to use that paragraph as their entry then that is a bad thing and you and the person who used the paragraph would be disqualified. Does that make sense? This contest will run from the day I place this post to the last day of January. Once you send in your entry please respond to the thread by putting in there that you have sent your response. ONE ENTRY PER PERSON and NO group submissions as there will only be one prize awarded and some of the prizes you cannot divide. Once I receive your submission that will be considered your entry. Your submission to the above email - is final. Now for the prizes. I’m still working on getting those but ------ I guarantee that the total dollar amount of prizes will be no less than 100.00 and no more than 200.00 Winners will be broken down like this Grand Prize : And at least 1st thru 3rd prize depending on number of entries. If there are a lot of entries then 4th and 5th prizes will be awarded. Ok, that’s it for the contest rules and the contest itself. If needed I will be updating the rules and such so keep an eye out on this thread for updates. As for cheaters – if you cheat you will be disqualified. The judges decision is final. If the cheating is considered contest breaking, by what I mean is if your conduct is so bad that it ruins the contest for everyone then the contest will be over and the cheaters name will be listed on the thread. I do this because I want this contest to be a great one and one that we all can look back on and say, Cool I was a part of that. -
The new EMT City Contest starts in the next thread This will take some thinking on your part as well as having MS word or a word processing program. You must send your entry to emtcitycontest@gmail.com Questions on the contest can be asked here. Good luck

actually dust, I'll bet my next months paycheck and bonus that no-one here can consistently tell the difference between appendicitis and stomach flu. If you can consistently do it then I'll sign over my next paycheck. (only joking on the signing it over) but you get my point.

the next contest is gonna be a doozy. I'm going to be working with Itku2er and Dustdevil on this one. It will run for a whole month. Did I say it was gonna be a doozy?

and let's not forget DRT "Dead Right there"

too bad you weren't here, you could have saved her. Smarty pants

Look for the next contest in a few weeks. maybe sooner depends on what I have in my closet to get rid of.

The winner of the contest is medic-texas. Pm as we speak Excellent post. honorable mentions go to Brentoli and JP as well as Eydawn based on a private conversation I had with her. She asked me a question in the thread and I never responded to her and I gave her an option of sending me a response and she did. Her heart is as big as texas if you ask me.

blood glucose first before ekg or anything else actually except the other vitals. Just like mobey said. 90 percent chance of blood sugar problem and 10 percent chance of anything else. Let's turn this around. Bethea, what are your thoughts on this? did you actually have this patient? How did you address this patient? What were your treatment/evaluation steps?
-
ok, I have three finalists. Medic texas, brentoli and JP. I'll keep the three of them posted.
-
Contest is over. I will be contacting the winner via pm sometime today or tomorrow at the latest. Nice Job.

Show me a valid DNR or a in hospital No-code and if you don't, he gets worked. What is the question here? Dont' we all know that if the patient does not have a dnr then they get worked. Or did I miss something.
-
show me a valid DNR or NO-code signed in the hosp and I won't work him. If you dont' show me that then the guys gonna get it all.

I don't understand the argument about school security and terrorism? Please elaborate on that Akroeze. I'd like to see where you are going with these statements.

this is a prime example of stupid people making stupid rules. Zero tolerance is the way that we get everyone to follow the rules. You break the rules, you got to jail. We need to go back to simpler times and rethink what we are doing. In 15 years from now we are going to look back and say 'Damn, we were stupid to do that" It's amazing that you cannot bring a steak knife to school to cut your food yet the school can provide all the birth control education and all the sex ed that they want. Where are the priorities? Just another example of the fine state we are in with Government Schools. sometimes I think Neal Boortz is right when he says that the biggest threat to the United STates future is Government Schools.

Goodness I must have been the epitomy of opposites here. EMS never really affected my family life. My shifts were 3 days on 4 days off, 4 days on 3 days off. Family is the most important thing to me so I do not let it affect family. Of course I take stuff home but I don't let it affect family. you don't have to let it bother or affect your family life either. You are putting your family life in jeopardy and you alone. You can say, no I won't work that extra shift or no I won't take a call shift. No one forces you to do any of that. It never affected my family life, and it never will nor will I allow it to do so. You just have to have your priorities straight. You know what I see most is new people in the field who think that the ambulance service is going to shut down if they don't work that extra shift. They feel that they are going to save the world and that work is the only thing worthy in their life. In my current job as a consultant I see this all the time with a competetor company. They require them to work a minimum of 45-50 hours per week while on salary. The mindset of these people who work for this company is that the company comes first. Sorry it doesn't. Many of those people who are pulling all those hours are not married or if they are they are unhappy and some of them gravitate to affairs and drinking heavily. You control your own destiny not the other way around and if you think that you have to take that extra shift then take it but remember that you had that choice not to work it. I think we are our own worst enemies, to be in this field y ou have to have a caring heart and a mindset that you are making a difference. Remember back when you just started out, I can remember this time. I thought that I was the bees knees and that I had to work those shifts because if I didn't people would not get the help they needed all to the detriment of my mental and physical health. Remember that the world will not stop needing ems if you don't take that extra shift. Remember that those calling 911 will get the ambulance they need if or if you are not working that day. You have to have a work-life balance and one way to do that is to take the days off you are given and do what they are meant to be used for - days off doing stuff for you and not for patients. I won't change any minds in this post but maybe someone, just someone might take them to heart and think that their health and mental well being are better served by taking the day off rather than covering an extra shift. be safe.
