  1. no he didn't suffer enough someone needed to hold him to the fire a little longer. He wasn't quite done enough.
  2. I would think that if you had any absolute disqualifications that a alternate career path would be in order. I for one know that I don't want a poorly controlled diabetic or a uncontrolled seizure patient driving me around.
  3. Please do not shout, All Caps is not your friend.
  4. the original poster posted this one telling sentence:::: The revenue, unfortunately, goes to the general fund not ems No wonder why you aren't profitable. Any chance of profits are going into the general fund that is free pickings for all your other agencies the general fund helps support. Another fine example of how well government runs things.

  9. Bubba, I can take those clothes off in 5 snips of my scissors Clyde, I can take em off in 2 snips Clyde, take those clothes off Redneck Fire Department Olympics huh?
  10. Richard, don't you know that I wrote that song. Charlie and I were sitting around the ole still and said wouldn't it be great to have a song about the devil and some hodunk fiddle player down in Georgia. He said in only the way Charlie can say, "sure nuff" So I'm not hijacking it, I'm trying to write a sequel. The devil went down to alabama, looking for a soul to steal.
  11. she might not want to hear you talking to someone off in the distance "my names johnny and it might be a sin, I'll take your bet, your gonna regret I'm the best medic that's ever been."
  12. how about "you are the most seriously injured of all the patients I took care of in school" Or "don't worry, if this doesn't work out for you, I'll see you in my funeral home. My second job is a funeral director"
  13. oh the other one I really love is this one "We haven't dropped anyone since last week" or "we dont' drop people on thursday" ha ha those are baaaaaaaaaaad lines
  14. Just don't mention anything about the armageddon thread that we've been having here. That wouldn't do her any good.
  15. Fatal flaw in your reasoning quote starts here I sometimes think that people who fall into certain income brackets and who live off a budget should only have to pay a certain percentage each month whether they be employed or not. Do I have any here that may agree with this? Quote ends here if they are not employed how will they pay? Government assistance only goes so far and by the end of the money from the check do you think that the healthcare system gets any of it? NOPE I pay over 500 a month in health insurance, yeah my companies insurance plan sucks but then again I make a lot more than most medics or emt's on this forum so I consider that it's a small percentage of my income to make sure that I'm covered anywhere in the country that I'm working, I rest assured that my son and wife are covered and they can see any doctor, go to any hospital, go to any clinic in the United states and I'll still only pay a certain percentage of the bill, the insurance company will pay the rest. As for Dust's comment about government run hospitals being packed like cattle calls. My wife went to the local er. It's only about 5 minutes from my house or 2 minutes if you drive like an idiot. She went at 12midnight on Saturday night when most ERs are usually busy. She was one of two patients in the ER at that time. She was seen and discharged in 2 hours. If this was one of the inner city hospitals or even the hospital she works at which is in a very nice part of town she would have spent 2-3 hours in the waiting room and then 3-5 hours in the ER because of the volume in the ER at the time. Thank goodness we live in an area of upper income people who do not use the ER's as their local doctors office. I hope it stays that way. But Dust, if the democrats get in office and put everyone on the insurance rolls it will become this way everywhere. The government can't do a good job running anything else, why in the world would we want them to run our healthcare? I just don't see it. Now you put the 45 million uninsured people on insurance, where is the money going to come from to pay for it all? If you think your taxes are bad now just wait till this whopper gets started. I have a plan but it's a far cry from what is currently happening now and it will be an even further departure from what killary wants to do.
  16. to paraphrase that govspeak If you ask financial information prior to a qualified medical person getting a quick triage on you then the hospital is in trouble. You can only ask non financial info to get them into the system. If you ask for insurance before the nurse or doc sees you then that's a NO NO. if I remember right the fines are I think 50K but they might be less or might be more but thats the number i remember. The registration desk can be as close as they want to be to the triage nurse but they can't get insurance info until you are triaged. The exception is Fred and Ethel go to the ER. Fred is having chest pain. Fred gets triaged into the system while Ethel gives financial information to the clerk. If you do it that way then it's not a bad thing, just make sure that the triage exam is being done or started prior to asking of any insurance questions. What they are trying not to have happen is for the insurance information to make any impact on the treatment order of the patients. so you can collect triage info and also collect insurance info at the same time but the insurance info has to be gotten apart from the triage info.
  17. One thing you might want to try is to go and drive around your coverage area. You can learn a lot just driving around. Take some addresses from previous calls and try to find them.
  18. I work to help hospitals put computer systems in their facilities. The only way to get in the ER system is to be quick regged and that asks 0 NO insurance questions. Only name, age, DOB and other non-financial identifiers. That's all they can legally ask you until a nurse or a physician provides you with the appropriate medical screening. Until then, you cannot be asked your insurance or payment status. So to not see someone on basis of insurance or to put the uninsured at the back of the line is probably not gonna happen. If it does it's a violation that will cost the hospital bunches.
  19. Jake, you are on your game today. Keep at em.
  20. You know what is really sad. About 75% of us will end up in these places. the other 25% will either already be dead or we'll have enough sense to set aside enough money to cover our care by homecare providers or family. We will be taken care of by the same kind of freaking morons that are taking care of patients today. The good thing is that we are in a unique position to know what nursing homes provide good care and which one's don't. I have had family members of patients come in off the street and ask me which nursing homes that I recommend since they know we see the nursing homes in their worst times, usually 24 hours a day. But it comes down to involvement by family. I find that the better taken care of patients are the ones who have a family member or multiple family members involved in their care. The possibility of one of those family members coming in to the nursing home unannounced at any hour of the day makes them more apt to take better care of grandma. My grandmother is in a nursing home and my parents see her every single day and if there is something amiss they immediately go to the administrator or charge nurse and get it straightened out. They say that the patietns around my grandma who don't have active family have less care than my grandma gets. And one other thing, it's very very expensive to be in a nursing home and if you are paying for the nursing home care rather than relying on medicare to pay then you have a larger vested interest in expecting good care. I know I know, they should expect better care regardless of who pays but that's just NOT The case. You get better treatment in first class than coach on an airplane don't you? I know that you do because I spent a lot of time flying and I've been in coach and I've also been in first class. You get better treatment if you buy a luxury car than you do if you buy a yugo. You should. So if I'm shelling out 7500 a month or whatever my parents are paying the nursing home for my grandma's care and another person is only paying what medicare or medicaid will pay I would think better care comes with it. I for one want to DIE before I need a nursing home.
  21. Asys, come on, we can't hurt their feelings anymore you know. If we do then they whine about it. I tell my son, not everyone wins, you are sometimes chosen last and yes in tag you are sometimes "IT". Call DFS on me now. My son took a empty coke can, a long stick and some duct tape and he made himself a gun. It didn't look like a gun but he said it was. I'm sure some zero tolerance person out there would expel him from school for doing so. Sometimes I think we've gone too far. One more atrocity that I'm saddened by is that Hasbro has no longer made GI Joe a marine. He's now part of an international force run by the United Nations. They WUSSIFIED HIM!!!!!!!! Damn liberals and political correct buffoons
  22. thanks JP I didn't realize I had mentioned what had been already mentioned. One other thing we need to worry about was that 70's craze from SNL - Land Shark And in the movie Wargames "Shall we play a game" Remember that line? He chose: "Global Thermonuclear War"
  23. some that we've forgotten to mention ebola marburg four corners virus hantavirus smallpox chicken pox shingles aids and the asian flu.
  24. playing tricks on the new guy can be fun yes it can but remember that in this day of political correctness and don't hurt anyone's feelings you need to realize that if the prank is of a nasty or upsetting nature you can be slapped with a accusation of being a hostile workplace and if your name is attached to this accusation then you can bet your bottom dollar that your HR department or your boss is gonna cut you loose faster than they will let the newbie go. Just a little reminder that one man's funny joke and prank is another man's door to a lawsuit.
  25. Speedy, your comment cannot go unrewarded. Here is what you said. I think if I would of went right after EMT-B class I would of failed due to the expectation that the class would be simple like the EMT-B classes. Working brought me to the realization that paramedic is much much much more advance and that I need to be more academically prepared as I feel I am now. This comment has just eliminated the need for any more discussion on the issue. the emt school curriculum(if you can call it school) has been so dumbed down that even a caveman or a monkey could do it. Your comment is very very telling and Rings so very true.
