  1. the other idea would be 101 102 103 and 104 The numbers never end so you will never be without numbers.
  2. As my son would say HOLY CAMOLY, I finally got Spenac to agree with me on something. Your training is now complete, Step over to the dark side. Agree with me some more.
  3. call them medic 1 medic 2 small medic unit the other small medic unit Why not Medic 1 medic 2 medic 3 medic 4 Keeps the numbering consistent and nobody gets confused.
  4. give it one or two years and something new will be the Rage. AS for how did we get along without defibs and pulse ox and all that, well in 20 years we are going to wonder how we got along only with the defib, pulse ox and other items we have now. There will be new toys, there will be new techniques and there will be new ways of charging patients their 2nd arm and 2nd leg for healthcare. Our toys are state of the art now but in the future there will be bigger and better toys to use and we will still be having this debate. I personally think that unless you have extensive training in RSI and it should be reviewed and if you don't have a backup airway ready for use then don't consider RSI. If you have a service like one I used to work in that ran 1000 calls a month, had maybe 2-5 codes or patients that needed intubation and you have 15 staff members to staff the units then you can imagine how often each medic got to tube someone. Now take those 2-5 patients who needed intubation, maybe 1 in that month would need RSI. Is RSI worth it in this service? I don't think it's worth training everyone and keeping them current for the Return on investment. I know that when I worked there, I would go weeks if not a month or two between intubations. So RSI could be a good idea for the right service but there are so many variables per patient and per medic that it may be a good idea for some medics yet not for many others.
  5. Aside from the obvious spelling and grammatical errors, it's amazing to me that after his face was collapsed in that he was fine. The hand of God must have been with him.
  6. I used to stop but don't anymore. Who's gonna know you are a Medic or an EMT? If you are in your coverage area that might be a problem. If you are out of town then I don't stop. I sleep at night because I know that I have no equipment with me and if I'm stopping at a mva I will have no equipment with me. Sure I can secure c-spine till the ambulance get's there but most of the time I have my son with me so I never never leave him alone to get out to check a scene. If I'm by myself I might stop but if I don't I won't lose sleep over it.
  7. Dwayne, your family is in our prayers, from your neice to you you are in our prayers. Guestbook signed Speedy recovery but we know that sometimes is not possible. You and I have shared some tough times here via pm's and phone calls and you can always PM or call me if needed. Take care buddy, you have my thoughts and my prayers.
  8. how bout giving the website you are touting. Are you advertising the site or just talking about it. We can't give feedback if you don't give us the site.
  9. drugs, legal or otherwise are not your answer I have found that it will even out and get better over time. If you find that you are still not sleeping for many more days then a trip to your doctor would be the best bet. AS for home environment 1. dark dark window shades 2. Comfortable bed 3. shower before bed(if just to relax) 4. Warm milk or a glass of water 5. They have these radios or music players that play "get to sleep" music or sounds 6. DO NOT EAT anything within two hours of bed time. 7. Do not watch tv within 2 hours of bedtime 8. If you cannot get to sleep within 45 minutes of going to bed then get up and do something for 1 hour only. The go back to bed. 9. IF you feel like you are forgetting something, I have found that if I fill out a list of things I'd like to do the next day that helps me sleep. And if all else fails, Go get a 1992 version of the ACLS book and read it. You'll be asleep in 10 minutes. Never fails.
  10. I once got called to a nursing home and this nurse, her name was Terri and she was so like, ditzy. She kept getting me a black plastic bag and trying to do mouth to mouth on the old geezers. She was one time found drinking the pureed meat and then chasing it down with ensure and then she put on some depends so she didn't have to go to the bathroom at all that shift. . If you ever get a nurse named Terri, be careful of her. She has some teddy bear friend named ED and another named Fred.
  11. 911 call non-breather call get there and the nurses are doing cpr on a patient who is sitting in her rocker. Her eyes are open and she has this look on her face of "OH GOD HELP ME". I tell the nurses to stop cpr and they argue with me. Saying we can't stop cpr when it's been started I tell her that I'm the medic and I'm a higher level of cert than she is and for her to stop hurting her patient. she then storms out of the room. I ask what the heck is going on that caused them to do cpr on an ovbiously conscious patient. They told me they couldn't find a radial pulse. I say Ok, but didn't her saying stop and it hurts give them a clue and they got pissed again and said, she didn't have a pulse Ok, now I've got a bunch of rocket scientists in the room and I ask for the chart. They say they will go get it. About 20 minutes later after calming this lovely old lady down, the director of nursing comes in and asks me to talk to her in the hallway. I obliged and went to the hall. She proceeded to rip me a new one telling me never to kick her nurses out of a patients room again. I was calm and collected and I said back to her, the only nurse I kicked out of the room was a cna who was doing cpr on a conscious woman who kept telling her to stop. I told her that her cna was not a nurse and that she may very well have broken several ribs and punctured her lung and I was transporting her to the hospital. I also informed the nurse that I would be lodging a complaint against her nursing home to the department of aging, the elderly ombudsman and if I had my way I was going to report her nurse(CNA) to the department of health for not recognizing a conscious patient but still doing CPR on her anyway. This shut the DON up real quick. I also went further to discuss the legalities of a CNA trying to pass herself off as a RN on a Scene we worked about 2 months ago. This CNA was on scene at a bad car accident and she told me she was a nurse. She tried to direct me and my partners care by telling us to take care of the walking wounded who were bleeding instead of taking care of the one unconscious in the car. She was shown to her vehicle by an all too obliging trooper who discussed interference with a EMS unit and she went on her way. In the end, I received a formal apology letter from the director or nursing and an apology from the CNA in question. I have many more stories but that was the highlight.
  12. Scaramedic, So far you have the best name. I don't think anyone can top that. I'll make you the "Not so Grand Poobah allmighty" designation
  13. If anyone out there has written a good research paper on EMS or EMS education or done some indepth research into ems or a specific topic please PM me. I have a proposition for you.
  14. I think it was a movie in the 80's It had a guy trying to be like Bruce and someone names ShoNuff or ShoGun fought him. El debarge was the music artists in the movie I think.
  15. Can the authors or researchers from this study please contact me. I need to talk to one of them. If anyone knows how to get in touch with them please get with me via PM's. I need a favor from one of them.
  16. welcome Hugh Jaynus and Savealot. good to have you on board.
  17. I thought that quality of an ER was based on how fast they can get a doc to see you. I saw a ad somewhere that if you go to ER #1 you will be seen by a doc in 15 minutes. Now that's quality.
  18. nasal cannulas have been used for pranks for many years. I have at least five classic pranks that I've done with them in the past.
  19. Your words exactly as written by you Eroemmich. OF COURSE I DIDN'T FORCE THEM THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION OR THE RED LIGHT, GOD YOU REALLY THINK I'M THAT DUMB. it sure sounds like you forced them thru the light. And let's keep God out of this discussion. I think God can make up his own mind if he thinks you are that dumb. I on the other hand have mixed opinions. Stop getting so dang defensive. Your posts have been fraught with fractious information and minimal information which has left us to for opinions of both your driving and your comprehension of our questions.
  20. anyone who's had a nasal cannula on knows that if the flow is increased your nares begin to flail open. 15lpm would seem that if you needed your nose cleaned out this would do it.
  21. Finally I must tell you that i find it hard to believe the assertion of things that can be accomplished in five minutes. It seems as though you are saying you can perform a thorough patient assessment, make a treatment decision, begin appropriate treatment, evacuate the patient from the residence and begin transport in five minutes. If this is true you are arguably the fastest most efficient pre-hospital provider in the nation. Yep can be done and I'm sure someone will post just how they did it. If they do let's make sure we get them in the paragod thread.
  22. Duly noted and entered so forth in the annals and membership of the Paragod Club. Welcome Meaner
  23. Ok Beegers, there are two threads one titled paragods post here the other titled EMT Gods post here As a emt and medic student you would qualify under the emtgod thread since as a medic student you think(not you necessarily but who knows) automatically think you know as much as a medic but don't have the medic after your licensure. Does that make more sense? AS for you DOC's don't make me start a DOC GOD thread.
  24. I would urge all emt's to go to this site and take the Registry Review. I just took it and didn't do too bad. You can take this test and then put together a set of items to reveiw to keep yourself fresh.
