I'm with dust, what medication bottles can you find and what are the numbers of pills in each bottle? This could be a combination reaction the a pharmacopea of medications. Did we check pupils? Does she feel hot? But Seriously doc, this isn't pufferfish poisoning again is it? Waht are her vitals pulse, bp rr we know the sugar 12 lead or cardiac monitor What time of year is this scenario goin on at? How long has the son been in the house and is he exhibiting any symptoms of CO? How bout the EMS Crew? If she's unconscious with unknown etiology I'd suspect 1. Diabetes 2. cardiac 3. CVA 4. infection 5. environmental(CO?)

What the heck are unsocial hours? Are those the hours that they are mean and nasty to the patients and they get paid to be unsocial???? I've worked with some of the most unsocial people in the world, do I get paid for that if I go to the UK? Just curious.

Actually I was that patient about 6 years ago. I had strep, I had a nearly completely occluded throat which made it impossible to swallow. My temp was 104.3, my white count was 25000 and my strep screen was positive. I got 2 liters of NS, no pain meds except toradol and Rocephin and Penicillin. I left the ER feeling so much better. It did help that I worked there and had never taken a sick day in the 2 years of my employment so they knew if I would drive 60 miles to get there from my house(i lived in a different town than the hospital was at) that I was sick.

well Sissy, someplace other than funny. I watched it several times and not once could I find anything remotely funny about it. So tell me, if I video taped you jumping off a cliff and surfacing face down and not moving, you are telling me that you wouldn't mind if I posted it under Funny Stuff on an EMS website or would you prefer it somewhere else, maybe like paramedic mike put it, scenarios. this would have made a great scenario where you actually had a video of a scene. You could have prefaced it that after the initial shock of the jump what would you do??? What are your first steps in treating this not so bright but injured girl.

Actually guys, I know the exact facility that Ray works at and I would say it is one of the most progressive medical systems in the country. I actually am working on their computer systems down there. It's a little ole hospital system very well known in Rochester Minnesota but also in Jacksonville. Cut Ray a little slack, I am sure that their training him as the ER Tech was pretty in depth.

If you get your medic license you can of course continue to volunteer. But I'd get some assurances first The first and foremost assurance would be what the volunteer services position is on medics volunteering in a emt capacity. They should have strict guidelines as to what you as a medic can do when in the guise of an emt capacity. I would be leary about stepping outside your role as a emt and performing any type of ALS skill no matter how small or miniscule you think that skill is. If you as an emt cannot check blood sugar's then the medic sure cannot if he is acting in the emt style role. I'd get clarification from your service as to the guidelines of emt versus medic playing as emt.

how bout this one. patient calls the doctors office, they can't get them in for a sore throat or whatever and the doctor's office tells them to go to the ER. It's not an emergency yet the doctor's office tells them to go crowd an otherwise crowded ER.

god job but he was where he needed to be. Hospital ER, cath lab, good ER Staff - all things fell into place. Had he waited any longer you might have found him stiff as a board in your parking lot.
