What a mouthpiece. She's clueless. But she thinks she's right.

The final word on combitubes
Just Plain Ruff replied to Asysin2leads's topic in Equiqment and Apparatus
Spenac, haven't you heard this saying If you build something that is idiot proof, they will just build a better idiot. -
Shayne, I'll bite. With a PhD why would he buy not one but two of these? You asked the question, please provide the answer. My opinion still stands, the idea behind the squmper is to me a stupid idea. You have all that space in the pumper yet you decide to put a cot and bench seat inside it. To provide rehab for fire fighters that have been workign really hard, that's one thing but that's really the only use for this type of apparatus. YOu said it yourself, you can't transport patients in it. But I'm sure someone out there is working on it. Sort of like surgery over the internet, someone must be trying to set that up too. I'm sorry you took offense to any of us that said this was a stupid idea(because many of us think it is) but those are our opinions. I for one question where your EMS is when your fire fighters need rehab? Do they not do that for you? If they don't then methinks a re-discussion of their usefulness is in order. Our ambulance carries a 10 gallon water container just for such an occasion. If we are called to a fire scene we will either fill it up and take it with us or we will have it filled already and on the ambulance. I think that the money spent on this apparatus could have been better spent elsewhere but then again, that's MY opinion. like it or not.

EMS talks falter over wage offer
Just Plain Ruff replied to K9kazoo's topic in General EMS Discussion
I'm all for more money but not at the expense of those you serve. The strike would hurt nobody but those they serve. there are alternatives to a strike like mentioned above. Plus, it puts a bad label on the striking employees. If you ask anyone who has seen other groups strike and ask them what they think they are strking for I can almost guarantee you that the general response would be "they want more money" which may or may not be true, but that is the impression that most people have. -
EMS talks falter over wage offer
Just Plain Ruff replied to K9kazoo's topic in General EMS Discussion
ok, let me clarify this. I do not nor have I ever supported a Union. If the union votes to strike that will make me sick. I'd hate to need an ambulance in the town. 911 what's your emergency "I need an ambulance" 911 "Oh their on strike you need to get yourself to the hospital" A little dramatic but to strike just makes me sick. They should not be allowed to strike. I'm sure that my opinion is not supported by those on the board who are unionized but it's my opinion. -

Fair or unfair??? You decide and discuss
Just Plain Ruff replied to Just Plain Ruff's topic in Archives
If she begins the process of getting citizenship then yeah I say let her stay. But if she's not going to go through that process then deport her, she's here illegally. I also had the misconception that if you marry someone you get citizenship. I stand corrected. I do wish her the best in the outcome of her husbands situation. -
If you listen really close you can hear the guys inside the house roaring with laughter each time the squirrel is launched.

Shayne, I said it was the dumbest thing I've ever seen I didn't say it wasn't a useful thing. I do agree that if you don't transport patients in it then it's a good idea. it would be especially useful to treat injured or ill responders before the EMS unit gets there. Just don't transport them in this thing. Can you imagine trying to drive a pumper into a ambulance garage at the local hospital? Can you say STUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they should let her stay till the resolution of whether her husband is found dead or alive. But the law's the law, I think she either needs to begin the process of citizenship or be deported. Can't have your cake and eat it too. -

NEWLY CERTIFIED EMT BASIC!
Just Plain Ruff replied to EMTBASIC_911_911's topic in General EMS Discussion
Ok this begs clarification from this guy. Scary job because your life can become endagered = made a stupid error in judgement and got the crap scared out of me. Career - what kind of a career can you have as an EMT???? Firefighter EMT sure. EMT = nada had to go to school for a long time so about the 120 hours - 120 hours is long that's working full time for three weeks longtime. 120 hours is nothing but it took this person nearly a year to get his emt-b???????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I don't understand this. how many emt classes did you take? did you take some time off between the class and taking your test??? The whole post is written like someone just out of high school who didn't pay attention in English class. dude, if your life gets endangered then you made a stupid error or went into a scene that was completely out of control. I always tell my students that before they go in any scene that they should take 3 deep breaths and then look at the scene again. If it looks hinky or strange then maybe your intuition is correct. Don't think that you have someone's life in your hands. Your hands are the last thing you should be thinking of. It is not your place to determine if their life is in your hands. If they are going to die then they WILL Die, nothing you can do about it. Please don't make too big a deal out of becoming an EMT and passing your state test. everyone on this site has been there and done that. The big deal is knowing when you are at the minimum of your career which is the EMT level. If you want to just slip by and go with the flow then by all means stay an emt. If you want to make something more of yourself and be able to help more people in many more ways then continue your education. A 120 hour emt course does not a good provider make. ***** disclaimer "my apologies to those career emt's out there if you took offense. ******** -
Confidentiality - Does what I say only stay with you?
Just Plain Ruff replied to spenac's topic in General EMS Discussion
Hey Y'all, guess what Spenac just told me. he said a bunch of stuff about his patient. and then he said this and then that. Of course it's confidential until court and then it's all out in the open. It's sad but when we can't even begin to shield the rape victims or victims of violent crime, then how can we expect to keep their medical records private. You left one group off your list of who sees the medical record -- insurance companies. -
Oh boy, I can see where this one's gonna go.

KC EMS To Deploy Tactical Medics
Just Plain Ruff replied to Dustdevil's topic in Tactical & Military Medicine
I know this medic in question at MAST although it's been ages since I've seen him or talked to him and I'd be hardpressed to say he'd remember me but my experiences is that he's one of or darn near close one of the best medics Mast has. I've met many medics across the country and would hazard to say that he'd be in the top 20 or so. He was actually one of my FTO's when I worked at Mast for my short tenure. I think the KC MO PD is in quite good hands. -
new here, can anyone relate or offer advice?
Just Plain Ruff replied to #1medicswife's topic in Burnout, Stress, & Health
I'm gonna take another slant on this and I hope you don't take it wrong. Your boyfriend needs to stand up and say he's not gonna take shifts 7 days a week 12 hours a day. working 84 hours a week, being so dang tired that he does nothing at home except catch up on sleep. That's a dangerous situation waiting to happen. I've been right there and it ended up with a 3 day stay in the hospital for exhaustion and electrolyte imbalance. He needs to stop saying no, there is no way that his current employer is going to say no for him. They look at it this way, if he's willing to work that many hours then we'll let him. It doesn't sound like his employer has his best or even not so best interests at heart. Sure they are paying over time and all that but they look at the over time they are paying and they say, we can pay this overtime and not have to hire someone else to cover the shifts that this guy wont' work. Not to be mean but your boyfriends priorities are skewed. Like others have said, the shifts will get covered, the calls will get run even if superman isn't there working those 84 hours that week. Lack of sleep is a consistent issue and it is proven that lack of sleep causes lapses in judgement, errors and medicine errors. If you are so tired that all you do is come home and sleep and neglect your family because you think you have to work those shifts then there is a problem. Good luck to you and him, sounds like you are in for a long rough road. Write him that letter, tell him how you feel. Tell him of your concerns and let him know that he doesn't have to work all the time to support the two of you. I guarantee if you had at least one or two days off a week you both would be happier and he would actually be awake to see his kiddo do the things that matter. In the end, family matters, nobody ever said on their tombstone "I wish I had more time to spend at the office" but you do see sometimes "I wish I had more time to spend with my family" I've lived your life my lady, my wife threatened to leave me if I didn't take more time off. Guess what choice I made? If if helps, I just celebrated my 13th anniversary today. -
especially like the question "What does a non-fire based EMS crew do on the scene of an MVA, when the car is engulfed in flames and occupants are trapped inside, and fire crews are not dispatched?"..... the EMS provider would need to request dispatch of a fire company...... further delaying care, and furhter increasing risk to rescuers and victims.".... i can tell you what I'm gonna do - wait till the fire department gets there with a bunch of water. But first I'll pull out the marshmallows and weiners. Can you imagine what a fire based EMS Crew(ambulance) is gonna do? They are gonna wait till the big red fire truck with the 1000 gallons of water gets there. This was a crock of crap that I'd not waste on my behind. It's goin right to the poop catcher in my rabbit cage. can't get any more biased than this paper. I also cannot wait till the video comes out. It needs to go on youtube to complement the trunkmonkey videos.

Woman dies in ER lobby as 911 refuses to help

Woman dies in ER lobby as 911 refuses to help
Just Plain Ruff replied to Lone Star's topic in General EMS Discussion
Scatrat, I respectfully disagree with you. It is not negligence. someone has to suffer harm to have negligence proven and it's hard to press negligence if you refuse to go get them. You are applying your rules for the entire country. You said that you have to go get them, sure you do if you are working where you are at. In other areas, ambulances do not get dispatched to the ER waiting room to pick up someone to take them to another hospital. The dispatchers on this particular incident I do not think they did anything wrong, nor would my dispatch supervisor have thought I would have done anything wrong if I was faced with this. Come on people, they are already at a hospital, they are in the ER waiting room waiting to be seen. Could it have been done differently with better tact and compassion, sure. Is someone going to be getting rich off this, YEP! Is the 911 system going to shoulder most of the blame - You betcha. Will the dispatcher be fired or disciplined - YEP. Is this a situation that we want to occur again? NOPE But to blame the dispatchers for this incident which is what the media and public will do- is just Plain WRONG. Put the blame where it belongs - the ER Staff and Hospital NOWHERE else. What could have been done is this - hindsight is 20/20 Put the woman in a wheelchair. Wheel her out of the hospital. Call 911 request an ambulance. Then 911 would have had to send the ambulance and there you go. Unfortunately - this sounds like she was gonna die anyway. It sounds like it was too far progressed for a 2nd hospital to have helped her but we will never know. So let's stop slamming the dispatchers and 911 and the ambulance services and let's place blame it belongs. Our society is so much into blaming everyone who has a deep pocket.
