  1. wow no-one saw that one coming.
  2. Tatoomama I totally forgot Bob's book and his educational materials. Anything by Bob Page is top notch.
  3. VS you took the wind out of my sails. That was gonna be my guess.
  4. crackle crackle crackle sounds like subq emphysema or stenum fracture If subq emphysema ask history of coughing or pneumonia does she have a fever? she could have cracked a rib coughing and popped a lung and then subq emph
  5. Ghost I'm not saying you are lying but I have heard of that call from many many providers. In fact, that call you posted was nearly quoted exactly right down to the time it took the fire department to cut her off the thing. if it really happened to you and you saw it then fine but this call is so widely quoted that it's kind of far fetched. It's also featured on Snopes. Again not calling you a liar but this has been around for years
  6. Found this quote from a friends email signature - ~This email is a natural hand made product. The slight variations in spelling and grammar enhance its individual character and beauty and in no way are to be considered flaws or defects.~ I thought it kind of encompasses everyone's post styles at one time or another.
  7. Maybe a extension of this topic would be "Palpated blood pressure, good thing or bad thing?"
  8. I fail to see where this patient is even close to being ready to code. I've had patients like this and one or two doses of adenocard or a jolt or two of current always did the trick. The ones I always worried about are the ones who don't respond to either of the above two treatments. If you drive bloody fast to the hospital, wouldn't that increase the patients anxiety causing more distress and increase the possibility of a detrimental outcome. I just don't understand why we have our partners driving to the hospital lights and sirens the patient has to be really really sick, near code before I'll drive hot to the hospital.
  9. I think that a lot of the criticism that comes out of this site is that there are many here that have been there done that. When we see someone writing that they did something so utterly stupid that it just screams "OH MY GOD WHY DID YOU DO THAT????" then the veterans here jump on it. There have been issues on here on whackerdom, scene safety, drug errors and the like that we have all been there done that and have experienced it first hand. We do have the reputation of eating our young and this will never change. It is one of the main ways that services and EMS'rs weed out the incompetent. So yes there are a lot of posts here degrading, slamming and yelling at each other but if take the behind the scenes look we are usually doing it because we are trying to teach something to those who have never been involved in some of the stuff that happens. Can we do it better and make it all nice for the people on here, I ask why, it's not as fun. but seriously, yes we can do it nicer but sometimes nicer doesn't cut it. Case in point, I had a student one day on an overdose call. We couldn't find the patient and the student walked away into the back yard. He went up to the garage and opened the door. The patient was in there with the car running in a enclosed garage door. He came out screaming that the patient was in there. WEll we were looking for him in the house and didn't hear him yelling for us. He went in the garage, pulled the patient out of the car and started to do mouth to mask inside the garage. We found him, we brought the patient out to the fresh air, worked the code and then had to put Oxygen and transport his sorry ass to the hospital for carbon monoxide exposure. He was off my ambulance and nearly got kicked out of his program. Can you imagine what would have transpired on this board if he posted here? Sometimes Ignorance is bliss and other times it's fatal.
  10. Wow Being a guy I think I should be offended.
  11. Mark I agree with your post Mark I vehemently disagree with your post That said The wierdest place I've ever worked a call was in the Coal Shute of a Coal fired powerplant. Code blue.
  12. well since I don't live in my response area I carry a limited jump pack. It consists of whatever napkins I got from mcdonalds or Burgerking the other day that are still in the car. I do have a couple of pairs of gloves though. I do also have a cell phone which fits nicely in my hip pocket - it's used for calling 911 to get the people who have the real trauma/med packs to the scene. All I do on scene is c-spine, if the car is on fire and the patient is in real danger of being burned up then I do rapid extrication but other than that I do minimal comfort measures and minimal procedures. I'll do CPR if needed. I usually have a mask but if not that's what other bystanders are for.
  13. they two on the outside are comforating the one in the middle after a particularly terrible day
  14. ok, I misunderstood you Kyle and I'm sorry for that. Let me check 2360 left
  15. Kyle, if you don't like the premise and think this is only to bump up post counts then I'll take you out of the running. I was trying to do a nice thing but apparantly you think it's silly. So I will count you out of the running and not qualified. Now if I read this wrong and you indeed think it's a good idea then I'll take back what I said just now.
  16. sounds like you did the right thing. I'm glad the guy did ok. I understand the dr. issue too. Take care.
  17. I was goofin around today and found this site. Quite good for continuing your education. Enjoy http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Human_Physiol...piratory_system And for those wanting to discuss and learn about paleoanthropology go here http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Introduction_...leoanthropology
  18. I hope you took no offense to my posts I do also commend you for furthering your education. I do indeed recommend more education and the more you can get the better. Here is what I would do in your situation if you are wanting to further your education in terms of cardiology. go get a good cardiology text like this one http://www.cardiotext.com/description/0781782309 and this one http://www.cardiotext.com/description/0912912065 and finally this one: http://www.cardiotext.com/description/0781744989 Get these three books as I have two of them. Read them and this will help you with your basic knowledge of cardiology, you basic knowledge of rhythm strips and finally will enhance your knowledge and ability to assist with a medic on patient care for the cardiac patient. It will run you about 100 bucks but it will be money well spent. Once you get past this educational escapade then pm me and I'll give you three books on the respiratory system for further knowledge
  19. Yes I'd have told the ER to Wake him up too. Many ER's have docs who sleep but that doesn't preclude them from waking the doc up for orders.
  20. did I not state in my reply that I hoped that this was a figure of speech which I truly believe it was. But then again, we all know the types of drivers who think that driving emergency gives them full reign to do whatever they want in traffic. Again I will re-iterate I hope it was a figure of speech but if it wasn't....... I am glad the guy turned out ok and everyone made it safe.
  21. maybe it was to counteract the way the patient was acting. If you drive like crazy it might counteract the roller coaster ride the pt. is going on. How far away from the ER were you? it was 2:30 am and you drove like crazy, what was traffic like? Honestly, I hate to be critical but there is never never never any reason for you to drive "Like Crazy". NEVER Hopefully that was a figure of speech. Why did you not call for ALS backup if he was so unstable that you had to drive like Crazy. Sometimes I just don't get it.
  22. DUST DUST DUST That was classic. I still haven't stopped laughing from that response
  23. my first thoughts are two items 1. CVA/Aneurism like previously stated 2. Vertigo - this can make you feel ike you are going side to side and up and down. The vertigo could have also caused him to fall. Could be caused by an inner ear infection. I'd choose number 2 over 1 though
  24. you are quite welcome and by judging by the number of your posts a hearty Welcome to the City is in order.
  25. Heres one more. http://nvs.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/30/1/26 It's amazing what google has tucked away.
