AMR and Piners vote to strike in northern California
Just Plain Ruff replied to hugopreuss's topic in General EMS Discussion
I'm still taking bets on how many of the organizers will be around to see their pay raise. I'd bet a few won't make till end of september. Just because you won the battle doesn't mean you win the war. And yes it is about the money, it's always about the money. When in doubt follow the money trail. -
Nursing Homes - Your general experience?
Just Plain Ruff replied to vs-eh?'s topic in General EMS Discussion
Yummy, I'd have that nurse up on charges for 911 abuse. That is a true example of 911 abuse. -
I agree that this could be discussed as adults but every place I've been where a similar subject has been posted it's always gone quite badly. Heck even where I work, we discussed this and it ended up being a shouting match and Bush did this and others didn't do this. It's just not a fun time. But if we want to try to keep it within the realms of civility I'm all for it. Maybe the mods can keep it in check and lock it if it gets too out of hand. Maybe a new topic thread should be started. I'm not gonna start it but someone can.

the reason I say that we shouldn't go there is that every time I have read discussions on thoughts on 9/11 and what happened and who knew, it always degrades into flaming, name calling and political arguments. That's not what this board is about. It's about ems and other things. I've just seen too many of these so called harmless discussions end up being locked, people being banned or suspended and such. If we want to talk explosive politics then let's put it out on a different style board.

How would you handle this?
Just Plain Ruff replied to fire911medic's topic in General EMS Discussion
Be prepared for a battle or retribution from that doc to you. What did you file in your complaint? I'd think that you may have opened a can of worms, Docs can be pretty retaliatory when it comes people filing complaints. Did you file it because your patient had not received pain meds or did you file it out of anger when the doc dismissed you? What was the patient acuity like in the ER when you brought her in. Were there only 5 minor patients or were there 5 really critical or serious patients? I'm just trying to get a idea of the circumstances. and I definately agree with the above poster, you probably should have gone to your supervisor first prior to filing a complaint. I am not so certain you really got all the facts. good luck in whatever happens. -
I would say that you need to get rid of a couple of those points. The company I used to work for would not hire anyone who had more than 3 points on their license. Check their insurance requirements before you apply.

that link requires that we install the photodex active-X control. Any way to just post some of the pictures.

I can't believe it cost 216 dollars for a personalized license plate.

One more thing, I worked with a medic that took the Iowa short (very short ) Paramedic course and he was and still is one of the very best paramedics I've ever worked with. It all depends on how much you put into it and how much you get out of it. If you half assed do it for the month then you deserve to fail. If you put your all into it then great. You can take care of me. But DO NOT do this half way. If you choose the month long course put all your efforts into it. Oh and one other thing, how will you support yourself during this class that is 4 weeks long. there is no way that I could work and do the class. I took a accelerated masters degree program and also worked full time and I was dang near dead at the end of the year long course. I needed a year off just to recuperate

when I first started it was given quite a bit in our little ER but then again we really didn't have anything better to give. Then along came the better class of drugs like adenocard and that worked wonders. Then the wisdom changed to sedation and cardioversion which worked very very well on most stable patients that we performed it on, some would not do so well. Now I believe there are better drugs even now so I think Verapamil should basically go the way of the dodo and Leave-em-dead(nor-epinephrine).

he won't get life or anywhere near it. They will look at it as a crime of passion/rage and he'll get something like manslaughter or murder 2 and serve 25 or so. That's not long enough but I'd be surprised if he got any more than 25 years. 25 to life would be a step in the right direction but does anyone truly believe he meant to kill the guy? Probably not. But since he did he has to pay the price. plus does anyone know what the police officer said to the guy who ran him over. He must have said something pretty bad to make the guy snap and do what he did. We'll never know and if it comes out it will be from the mouth of his killer. This is so sad. there's a story out of Ohio where two women cut in front of a lady in McDonalds and the lady threatened to kill them. They left the store and the lady who threatened them hit them with her car. it's a very serious problem, you never know who you might make angry in a car and then you are in a world of hurt.

unfortunately, you are endangering the public by striking. If they can't find a service to cover and the strike happens then that is exactly what will happen. people will have long waits for ambulances and they may not get an ambulance. I agree that this is a bad deal all around but if the strike happens then they most certainly are endangering the public. -

To those who strike, I don't agree with striking but if you are gonna do it then that's your prerogitive but don't whine when you are hurt or a loved one is sick and needs an ambulance and there isn't one available because you all are on strike.. It's your prerogitive to strike but when you need an ambulance you might think different. Good luck and I hope this gets straightened out but I sure feel sorry for those you are trying to serve. -
They don't call it verapakill for nothing. I've had patients code on it I've had patients projectile vomit in the ED with it. It's really if I remember right fallen out of favor. There are much better drugs out there for stable patients.

First time shift ------ count to 5 before you go in the scene. If you feel yourself getting Vclempshed count to 3 As for unfamiliar location you will be covering - why don't you take a day or so and drive the streets of the area you are covering. You'll get some sense of thru streets and such. READ THE MAP Good luck just a note on my first shift, 1 MI, 1 adult code and a pediatric code all in the first 12 hours. the other 12 we ran 1 call. so it comes and goes. how many calls do you think the unit you are running run's in a 24 hour period are you starting out as a 3rd person or are they just throwing you to the wolves, your post wasnt completely clear on that part. If you are riding 3rd person then your preceptor or FTO should be on the ball and not let you flounder.

I have also flown someone specifically on MOI. Motorcycle crash with helmet coming off. flew him to a level 1 trama center. He was released in 8 hours with a fracture calcaneous. Did I know what in the end was wrong with him no, neither did the responding crews at that scene. Plus I truly believe that they were possibly flown due to the rollover and that they were ems'rs. We tend to take better care of or give more care to people we work with. -
