  1. Useless fat bastards get on a treadmill and put down the Whopper!
  2. Do all your prep classes and go to Paramedic school
  3. What am I, a doctor?
  4. All our vehicles carry a map book and crews often get sent to other areas for cover especially here in Auckland so to send somebody flipping through a map book on the way to a job they have no idea how to get to (or where they are) is a bit pointless I think. Most units are sent to a neighbouring coverage area but I've heard of West (Waitakere) being sent up to the North Shore (total opposite end of the city) so its really helpful to have the satellite navigation Note that not all GPS systems are updated either, or you have to pay for updates so it's not 100% accurate 100% of the time! Personally I use local knowledge to get me in the general area and the GPS makes it exact from there.
  5. A good knowledge of your response area is better than any GPS or map book ever will be but, for those tricky streets that you do not know a reliable GPS is invaluable esp at night Street signs behind shrubs, or ones people have nicked for thier apartment, blind buggers like me driving, you know it helps to have the satellite nav
  6. FAIL! Throw your outdated map books away and get a bloody GPS! Turn left, turn right, continue three hundred meters, push analyse, perform a u-turn where possibe, arrive at destination on right, i live my Navman
  7. I had to do 10 press ups step test 20kg box lift loaded stretcher lift sprint with the LP10, resuscitation kit and oxygen ... something else
  8. Most people do like my ideas Good scenario Ruff!

  10. Almost every health professional here requires a Bachelors Degree, the exception is Anaesthetic Technician which is a comparable amount of study but is not a Bachelors Degree (watch that space). For example the following require a Bachelors Degree Chiropractic Dentistry Dietetics Medical Laboratory Science Medical Radiation Technology Medicine (MBChB) Midwifery Nursing Occupational Therapy Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Osteopathy (not a DO) Pharmacy Physiotherapy Podiatrists Psychology Psychotherapy Speech Language Therpay New Zealand does not have RTs. The "technician" type roles do not exist here as they do in the US (eg ER Tech) and the few "aide" or "assistant" type roles that do exist are supervised by a registered healthcare practitioner. A dental technician or nurse aide for example completes a vocational training certificate or other qualification appropriate for thier level of practice but must be supervised by the applicable registered profession. Research and essays/case studies etc form a significant part of our Health (and other) Bachelors Degrees which really expand one's knowledge and give you a strong educational foundation so you can pick up new knowledge easily and have a deeper understanding and ability in your chosen field. This is a major advantage over the "vocational" style "technical" education that was used in the past for our Ambulance Officers.
  11. So I just watched the pilot online, more trashy slop. It's mildly better than Trauma in that Miami Medical does not compel me to hurl a whisky bottle at the telly! They still advocate the golden hour, mmm there's evidence based medicine, but then again it probably makes Miami-Dade Fire feel important. Oh and I hate CSI, especially CSI-Miami like that dude fugly!
  12. Come on now, it's not rocket science ... the AHA says so ... even a Firemonkey should be able to wing it
  13. Stroke scale? 12 lead? BGL? Does she fall regularly or is this new? Any obvious reason for the fall eg tripped on a mat? Any dizzyness? LOC/GCS? Does she remember everything? What do her friends say happen?
  14. Wicked mate, watch them kegel exercise balls, the loose ones, those things can be a bit of a bugger
  15. What is wrong with an appropriately educated nurse practitioner being able to dish out meds off a list? That's like saying a PA can't prescribe!
  16. LMAO good one guys .... friend of mine lost hers in the dairy aisle at the supermarket Just make sure the ones you get for your wife Josh are appropriately sized
  17. Sounds like me down to a T
  18. I'd say thats exactly what it is Dwayne
  19. Thats embarrasing
  20. sounds like just what hey need
  21. We use HEMS mainly because of the isolation of various pockets of New Zealand. I fully agree that HEMS is overused where it offers no - or little - clinical benefit and (as somebody with substantive aviation experience) I fully agree that the industry needs better regulation. That said, bloody hell I want one of those orange suits with "DOCTOR" on the back!
  22. I think the LP12 shows II, III and SPO2 but you can change it
  23. Being told that a critical asthmatic who was speaking like one word a breath and clutching his chest looking ready to keel over and die was fine "because he has no wheeze and is speaking".
  24. Testify brother I bet these "logistical problems" come in two flavours 1. "I don't want to work on the ambulance bitch bitch bitch, Ima stay here and watch telly" or 2. "Oh lord not those bloody Firemedics again, they're shyte, we don't want them on our trucks"
