  1. Oh, and by the way, Dust. I wasn't referring to what I've done in the past to "get dirty". I was referring to all those medics that have done things like that, and more. And it's not bragging. It's pointing out that there is a lot more to EMS experience than just responding to all call. And a lot do get down and "dirty". But there are those that don't that think they are just as experienced.
  2. "These Dreams" - Heart :love7:
  3. Thanx for the support and encouragement.
  4. I totally agree. Yes, it was a bad experience. You wouldn't be human if it didn't effect you. Get help, hang in there. Please don't quit. And not to scare you off, but you'll have worse experiences than this. Stay strong. You have a lot of folks here behind you, including myself. :wav:
  5. Is this guy's name Randy? Not only did I have to work with the guy, I had to share an apartment about the ambulance building for about a year and a half. You described him to a T. His Paramedic skills were barely sufficient. Proven by all the write up he had against him. He was also the type that he would ask you a question then argue with you saying it was wrong. If he thought it was wrong then he must have known the right answer some how. Most of the time I could at least tolerate him, but at one time I was either going to jump out a window or push him threw it. He actually reminded you of Frank Burns on M*A*S*H One day I was working on a rig's engine and he came up to me and said he had bad news, he was leaving. I said I hated to see him go, but inside I was tap dancing.
  6. I sort of suspected something like that because I have a minor condition of that with my left elbow.
  7. I agree, coarse v-fib. Defib 200, 300, 360, in succession, epi, lidocaine, etc. Follow ACLS protocols. All to often world class athletes have underlying undiagnosed cardiac problems.
  8. Could the pressure during the flight effect a possible minor aortic aneurism? Immediate transport to hosp. for CT or MRI to rule that out.
  9. We too had a gentleman stuck in a bath tub. He had a colostomy bag which had ruptured, YUK :puke: . Took about four of us to get him out. He happened to be one of the rural fire fighter's father who showed up, thankfully. At first after we got him out he refused transport. His son convinced him to go. It's a good thing he did. They had to repair his colostomy in surgery. It wasn't just the bag that ruptured, but it damaged his abdomen.
  10. It was in a town. Pop. 35. The only "businesses" there is a Post Office and a "Ceramic Shop". So, you could consider it in the middle of nowhere.
  11. Man, I'm not going to get into a p!ssing match with you. Whose trying to impress anyone? I'm not. I don't brag about anything. The only time it's mention is when certain nurses do start to brag or impress colleagues. Some try to make it seem that they are more "superior" of a nurse than others. I wasn't trying to compare medics to nurses, just nurses comparing themselves to other nurses. I've notice that some nurses try and out do the other. That's all. I never intended to get this into a heated debate. Peace
  12. "Dream On" - The Beatles/ Aerosmith (the better version IMHO)
  13. Getting "dirtier" isn't the point. And getting "dirtier" has nothing to do with what I'm saying. My point is that some think just because think they have responded to a handful of calls and stayed in the back and had the patient brought to them doesn't make them more"experienced" then others. There's been many that have got out there and got "dirty". And most of them don't brag that they are more experienced because of that. And I'm not saying that about all MICN's or RN's. And definitely no disrespect, Dust, but...lighten up. Are you always so negative and judgemental? After all, we are all friends and colleagues here. And besides, how do you know how dirty I get? And besides, a mechanic get's dirtier in a different way than a medic would.
  14. Unfortunately I've had to make several runs in very bad blizzard conditions. I look back now and think how stupid some of those were. One very early morning we were called to the airport. There was a Lear Medical jet coming in that was en-route to St.Louis. Lambert Field and Scott Air Force Base were completely shut down. We were the nearest airport that they could land at. They had a new born with some kind of esophageal problem coming from MI. (I think). So we loaded and transported the entire team. For the most part we could only go 35 mph. Enroute the doc had to intubate the baby, and it was amazing to watch, considering the conditions. But we got there. When we got at the hospital a MO State Trooper said that we were lucky that we did have such an urgent case. He said that if it was just an ordinary patient we might have been ticketed for traveling on a closed highway. But there was other calls we did make, locally, that we really had no business even getting out for.
  15. I'm not sure if I've posted on this topic before, but...There had been a couple of times while making Interstate transfers that I did stop while having a patient in the back. Once I was taking a cardiac patient to Springfield, IL with only a nurse in back. There was a semi on fire. The driver was waving me down. I pulled over and the guys arm was still smoking. I checked him real quick and used an extinguisher from my rig and put the fire out. I treated and wrapped the driver's arm which had second and third degree burns. First off I did contact the nearest EMS service. It took them about 15 minutes to get there. But in the mean time another truck driver stopped, got into the semi that had been burning, started it back up and it caught fire again. (Real smart, p!ssed me and the other driver off big time). The patient I had in the back was watching out the back window and said he got a kick out of watching. In matter of fact he wrote me a letter of commendation. He was in no distress at the time, but if he were I wouldn't have stopped. At least I don't think so. :-k
  16. One little piece of advice I can give you. Double, triple check the correct and accuracy of any of your data or information you give. During the time you are writing or preparing the data can change, so be on top of that and change things accordingly.
  17. I've had nurses, MICN or pre-MICN, talk about how experienced in the field. I have nothing against nurses discussing that, but it's the one's bragging about it. Me and some of my fellow medics have stepped in and pointed out that unless they have laid in a ditch with water up to there shoulders in 35 degree water holding someone's head up out of the water for 30 minutes, or having to be in a car where they were doing extrication, cutting the car away from the two of you, or doing CPR on a shooting victim on the scene where the gunman was still taking pot shots at people, THEN they could say how they had more in-depth experience in the field.
  18. I know this is getting way off topic, but if it's not Dallas, New Orleans, or Miami playing, I don't really care. But I am glad the Giants pulled it out. =D>
  19. You know, this topic for some reason reminds me of an incident in the ER when the doc had just finished examining a well known gay regular patient. He came out of the exam room, threw down the chart and said that he didn't know to contact a gynecologist or a proctologist. He didn't elaborate the patient's reason for being there.
  20. Well, I did it. Got a script for Chantix today. The Pharmacist that works with my wife spoke very highly of it. He said that it was not a 100% thing but it's got a better track record than anything else that has come along. He also said that the only adverse side effect that he was told personally was nightmares and vivid dreams, which I already have anyway. So in about a week I'll let you know how it's going. I might be posting from a rubber room or one of those places that don't let you have sharp objects, but I hope it will be better than what I had tried before. [-o<
