All in all, firefighting is more than just grabbing a hose and spraying water. Saw too many rookies that thought that and they were sorely mistaken. A few quit because of it. Guess they just wanted the patch.
  5. If you did have a Chaplain regularly on board, it should be understood that they are non-denominational, or at least in that capacity. And they should be at least an EMT. IMHO

  7. Might be kind of prophetic there.
  8. "Takin' Care Of Business" - BTO
  9. Sure wish they had though of that here a long time ago. At $18K, around here a few years ago, that would have covered two EMT-A's
  10. Oh, that's below the belt. (Pardon the pun)
  11. I don' know about too many others, but for me, when I did come to terms with it I was devastated. I was crushed. Even with the burn out I still loved the job. Some may argue that it was a blow to my ego, but I don't believe that was it at all. It's just that when you have worked for something for so long and so hard to get where you wanted to be, and it was something you loved, just giving it all up would be difficult for anybody. Some people would try and convince you that they thought you still had what it takes to keep going. Their hearts are in the right place and are trying to be supportive, but it's like you have to explain to them what you are going through. I hated to say it but I just had to tell people that I just couldn't do it anymore. I would just be putting myself and others in danger. One of the most important pieces of advice I give is to know your limitations and to respect them.
  12. It's never too late to start, or to re-start. Have fun. :headbang:
  13. The best boots I have ever had were "Catapillar". Steel toed, steel shanked and very comfortable. Water proof and when living in MI in winter kept my feet warm.

After last night that would be any day now, if not already.
  16. I don't have a problem with it. Especially if they jump in and give a helping hand.
  17. Some will argue that they are mostly French. But they are French, Native American, Spanish, Creole, and others all combined. I don't think there's an absolute definition of Cajun. Some of my father's best friends barely speak English. Maybe just enough to carry on a conversation. I myself can understand it, but I can't speak it. Go figure.
  18. If you are interested in that area of TX, I once looked into the system in Tyler about fifteen years ago. It seemed like a great place to be back then. Don't know about now.

    I just love JibJab. :thumbright:
  22. Saw how much rain Alec (Alexandria) got. Someone said that they thought they had more rain than NO did, but I doubt it. My folk's are starting to dry out and move the nursing home patients out of the church's gymn. We're in S. IL but were suppose to get between 3.5-5.0 inches of rain from the same system. Bring it on. We're desperate for some rain. Just hope it's not all at once.
  23. Don't forget me. Can't wait for the season opener. Oh...and welcome everyone, whether you're a Cowboys fan or not. Not everyone is perfect.
  24. Wish I was that talented. Throwing one's voice, that can open up a whole new world.
  25. "I Walk the Line" - Johnny Cash :walk:
