I'll second that all that. We use to get some great one's from drug reps. If we just happened to be in the ER when any of them were around they made sure to supply us with anything we asked for. I don't remember any certain brand though. Just the trade name for medicines or the companies that make them.

You'll be surprised what you will remember when you start the field. Don't worry about it. You'll also find that you can't always go by the book. I'm meaning that what you may come across in the field is not always covered in the book. Watch, listen, learn, get your hands dirty. When you are teamed up with a new crew talk things over with them. Find out how they go about doing things. I'm sure they'll tell you to jump in every chance you get. If not, ask them when and where. Be curious. Ask all the questions you can. Don't try to impress anyone. Have fun with it. Relax, like you said. If you have any questions for us, don't hesitate to contact us. You'll do great.

If he just started on the Zoloft, could be side effects that will subside over time when his system get's use to it. Still, sounds like he has some kind of infection. Even though he has the foley, is there any pain or burning of urinary tract? If vomited small amounts, was it more like dry heaves or just brief episode? Is there a reason for lack of food and fluid intake? Like just not hungry or thirsty, or feeling too sick. Does the skin appear to be dehydrated, or did I miss that in earlier posts? O2, IV NS, give fluid challenge.

That happened to me once. Actually it was a Greyhound Bus accident.

So, what did you get? Ribeyes, Roast, T-Bone, etc.?

No, but I've seen them. I'm so ashamed.

So if it's going west of NO, then Lake Charles may be the bullseye. Are they planning evac. from Oppolousas on down, or from Alexandria on down? I've heard too many land marks considered as "south LA". -

My family is originally from that area. But I lived there in '96. Then again in 1998-2005. My parents live in Winnfield now. I visited them a couple of months ago for about seven weeks, but hung out in Natch. Believe me, I'd rather be living there now than here in S. IL. My wife wanted to move back near her family again. And if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. So we've both been in the same stomping grounds at one time. If you remember Sibley Lake Mini-mart & Campground, that's where I worked last for a family friend of mine. We were full in the campground everytime there was a TS or hurricane. Actually had a lot of fun with the "Hurricane Parties". Of course we had Antoons right across the road. We had 34 camping spots and for Rita I was able to fit in 37 campers and a school bus. -
I know the scenario is pretty much done and over with, but. I was just curious that if he had a hx. of asthma as a kid and now smoked, did he not have an inhaler at all now? Or had it been so long since he had any trouble that he hadn't needed one until now? My cousin had this happen to him in his mid-teens. Luckily he was already in the hosp. when it occurred.

I'm agreeing with the others on possible UTI. How has his output been in the last couple of days? At anytime was his catheter bag completely full and was delayed to be empty for some reason? What did he eat or drink last? How much has he drank in the last couple of days? Any ETOH? Any flank pain or abd. cramps? What is the cause of his paraplegia?

I had something similar one time. Turned out the patient was having a "little chest pain". Her friend next to her gave her one of her own nitro. Of course you know that all that happened was that her BP bottomed out. She was fine. But at first they didn't say anything about the nitro. They were in the balcony which had a very narrow and steep stairway. She weighed about 250lbs. Very difficult to get her down. It wasn't until we got her in the rig when she told us of her taking the nitro. We felt like slapping someone. Did the normal chest pain treatment. Turned out to be indigestion.

It's amazing how many people have tried to get attention by taking motrin or Tylenol. I know of a couple of people that did the Tylenol thing. It did kill them in the end. It was from cirrhosis of the liver due to damage from the Tylenol, a long, painful, way to go.

I was never at a college that had dorms. But my best friend of mine did. I'd stay weekends with him every now and then. Other than having to sleep on the floor it was a lot of fun, especially since it was co-ed. The biggest shock I got was when I was standing at the sink shaving when one of the shower curtains flew open and a gal stepped out with a barely large enough towel wrapped around her. If Paul would have told me before hand I wouldn't have been so surprised. Of course I'm not complaining about it. I knew I should have gone to a larger school.

Back in the early '90's one of the fire Lt.s I worked with had a nephew move into town who was a tattoo artist. Several of the guys got inked, including one of the Capts. He had been a Marine. He got the Marine bulldog with a fire helmet on it. The Chief didn't really say to much about them, except for the Captain's. For some reason he gave him a hard time about. Maybe he thought it was too undignified for the a Capt. to have one done. I don't know.

I started something like that a few years ago, before I was a member here. I just contacted a lot of my EMS friends and some of their EMS friends and started to compile their experiences. Just didn't have too many submissions. If you read some book about Viet Nam written by Al Santoli, you'll see that's what he did with the vets. That's what gave me the idea. I've got some of the stories of floppy somewhere. That tells you how long ago it was that I started to do it.

I'll be thinking of you, Craig and Brandi. I hear they are wanting to evacuate again. Maybe everyone will take it more seriously this time and get out when the gettin' is good. I was living in Natchitoches which is much more north, during Katrina and Rita. By coincidence we moved back to IL to be nearer to my wife's family right afterward. A lot of people here thought we moved due to the storms. One thing my wife said was that moving up here also got us away from hurricanes. I said, 'Yup, out of hurricane regions and into Tornado Ally'. But I'd rather be down there, or at least in Natchitoches. Hope you won't have anything from the new storm "Hannah" which is brewing. But they say it's still too early to tell if it will effect the coast there. -
Iraq...now that is Off Road. 8) You and AK have fun, but not too much fun.

Outstanding way to put it. You can never educate, train, or practice too much. Congrats. Now that you've got your first field tube out of the way, just remember no two tubes are a like. Some easy, some hard, and some you've got to be kidding me!' I remember my first tube. I just looked, inserted and it slid right in, and it was over. I was like, 'OK, now what'? In the future when intubating, just remember to not get in a hurry. When practicing, develop your own routine and technique. Just remember the basics such as, don't pry back against the teeth, observe the tube until the cuff is past the vocal chords, and check placement immediately. At least that's how I first learned.
