  1. I've not only been on a date to a shooting range, I've had a romantic picnic on the back of a tank and a couples weekend playing rather intense paintball. Army girls have a different sense of fun and "appropriate".
  2. I don't know about being an "empath" or anything, but I do read people well. I have ADHD and a common trait among ADHD people is hypersensitivity as well as a very strong instinctual/reactive side. Basically, I just notice everything, whether it's completely consciously or not. I am highly compassionate and usually get a good read on what people are feeling and thinking. I can tell if someone is really sick or hurting, how much, if they are lying. Everybody has different people skills, it's just how our brains are wired to interact with the world.
  3. Thanks for the answer! I appreciate the insight - as I said, I'm still in school and my background in combat-skewed. And I don't worry about bashing, I have a thick skin and am here to be a sponge.
  4. I didn't say that it shouldn't be allowed, only that it would not be my first instinct to realign. Ultimately, it's difficult to say what I would do without being there, seeing/feeling it. I agree that airway would be difficult, but I personally have more confidence in my surgical airway skills than moving bone bits around the spinal cord. Understand, I'm not disagreeing here, just trying to think it thru in the "if this were me" sense. It's a very interesting and realistic sncenario that could happen anywhere in the country. I'm a combat medic by trade - I hear load-and-go and think serious expediency and strength of skill-set. What makes the RSI questionable? I'm a second-quarter medic student, I really have no idea. I totally agree with you on the nasal intubation, I would have been definitely concerned with skull fx after a fall like that. I could care less about CA protocols, I'm just a student asking questions.
  5. Ok, thanks. I would have said screw the c-collar and improvised, used a blanket or sandbags, a frickin sweatshirt if it could be fit around the head, secured to the pt and the board, and helped stabilize things. But then I'm used to improvising and don't know how many civilian protocols would flip on that, haha.
  6. WTF?? Sounds like the intro to an episode of TRAUMA, lol
  7. Is RSI actually outside scope of practice in SF? I appologize if it's a stupid question, I'm still a student, but we've covered a bit on RSI already and when it is appropriate. I was way more concerned about the realignment of the neck when, as they stated, that it was obviously broken. Personally, I think I would have splinted as found and done a cric. Thoughts?
  8. Agreed 100%
  9. Had a class put on for senior girls in high school one Sat, didn't get much out of that. But I've completed 2 rounds of Army CQC courses. That's fun stuff. Sorry, CQC = close quarters combat
  10. Got a letter first, about 10 days ago, and I have been hearing rumors for awhile thru the grapevine. Got actual orders on Wed, but only to report to AGR. I'm thinking WTF? My old unit just got home & the 1SGT's been working with me to get things straightened out. I have no intention of leaving school. Top says I should be fine.

  11. love it!
  12. love it!
  13. love it!
  14. I've got 14 months left and got recall orders. They wanted me to go to Haiti, but I just started paramedic school and don't want to start over. I'm appealing, but in the mean time, I'm in limbo - unattached to a unit at the local NG base. Just wondered if you had an experience with IRR.

  15. This just made my day
  16. What happened? Didn't they get cancelled before the season was over?
  17. LOL, nice analogy
  18. Those are all very good points/questions. And no, I don't believe I would do much to restrain someone myself. I guess I was more wondering how he was restrained in the first place that allowed him to break free. I definitely think the whole concept of transporting unstable, possibly dangerous psych patients falls (or should fall) outside EMS purvue and is rather obsurd. I understand these people need help and proper care, but not the type of care EMS provides and it placed undue risk on crews.
  19. Wow, that's crazy
  20. Really? This is happening a lot? I'm not being sarcastic, honestly, I'm just new to the civilian EMS scene and live in a small town. Is it a problem with psych patients? It can't be that easy to open the door and jump out of a moving rig on a highway. How was he not stopped? Now I'm curious...
  21. Hilarious! and super cute
  22. I've always liked talking to the ceiling myself.

  23. I was just about to post that same site! It does a great job of breaking it down simply. I just used it to help out some buddies in my medic class that were struggling.
