  1. i was under the impression that in medic school they don't go over anything you've learned in basic school. so what the first couple of days is a review or something? and jpifnv if you go back to what was said by spenec " learning the basics has no real benifit " and go to what you said learning how to use a stretcher should take no more than 4 pt.s aren't you learning the basics if physicians and rn's know how to give an oral report or use o2 thats because the learned the basics or were they born with that knowledge. im still confused on how i can hurt the pt if i follow protocol. i think if you don't know the basics yes you can hurt the pt. the person who had the question in the beging is going to do what they feel like regardless of what anyone on here says they should trust their gut. and what about tuition? some places charge 10,000 or 25000 depending on where you are? as said before yes you can work while in school but the ones i know that work while in school can only work maybe 2 days the rest of the time they are studing or doing clincal. you cant survive by just working 2 days/ wk. loans? what if you get denied? or just don't want a loan? again this is just how i feel my OPINION . i rather work in the field for a year make sure this is what i want to do for the rest of my life than pay 25,000 and then decide i hate this type of work.
  2. spenec i agree that you can run with a bls crew while in school tons of ppl do that. but confused on this statement: What you will learn and do as a basic will not prove any real benefit and actually lead to you harming patients.
  3. i can vouch for chesire. i went to emt- b school at jeffstat ( jefferson hospital) great program by the way. and we finished in june and medic school there started in sept. some of my classmates signed right up for medic school our instructors said basically that its up to you how you feel. if you want to go straight through. but it seemed like they were leaning on the wait a year side. make sure this is what you really want to do. get experience before you spend money for medic school. thats what im doing waiting a year and saving up for tuition.
  4. i know someone in the state dept. lots of training and backround checks. i believe you have to do 3 tours over seas. or as they call them hardships. the hardships are for 2 years unless you are in a war zone then its only 1 year. i know they deal with passport fraud and diplomat security.
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. when you pick a pt up from dialysis and come out and to find your ambulance has been robbed.

  11. check out galls magazine they got a ton of stuff
  12. i am anti- abortion with exception of conception during rape. and pro death pent. the way i see it the fetus did nothing wrong. the person who is sent to die did. and usually if you are sent to die you did something so inhumane or evil.
  13. great idea. are the quest going to just for medics or are there also going to be emt-b questions as well.
  14. no shortage of emt- b new companies are popping up all the time. as far as medics yes and no in the city yes suburbs not really, in the city. the fire dept runs it so a lot of the time you have the fireman driving and the medic in the back. but now our mayor is closing some stations. so that sux. a lot of the emt -b i talked to don't want to be medics they are comfortable where they are of course they are russian, ukrain and other surrounding counntry immegrints who are not paying taxes.
  15. the medical debt wouldn't go to a collection agency? mess up persons F.I.C.O. score. i was taken by a city fire&rescue ambulance so i just assumed that if i didn't pay i would get served and then pay court fees. plus its the right thing to do. i had a roomate in college who didn't pay a parking ticket and a warent was issued for his arrest. so medical debt doesn't work the same way? learn something new everyday ha.
  16. keep sending bills set up payment plan. i know over the summer an ambulance was called for me for syncope (i passed out twice in 15 min.) i went two blocks to the hospital and was billed 500 i don't have health insurrance so i payed 25/ 50 per month. get insurance info first. if still doesn't pay send out warrent for arrest,or repo man. if get called for that again say no. cause at the same time i don't want to occupy a truck with something like that when i could be using it to transport a real emergency. we all learn from mistakes. all in all this is a good question though.
  17. i don't do 911 unfortuntanly so i can't say. maybe call police. for backup and if the crew goes ahead and transports they have the address and name /birthday so BILL him for the ride which i know aren't cheap so that would be an expensive lunch.
  18. i believe in penn. someone who is drunk can not refuse, either ems takes them or police. even both ( ems with police escort.0
  19. excellent wendy!!! the only test i did was the stair chair test i was on the bottom ( which of course is easier) and partner on the top with a pt ( 200 lbs) up 13 steps.
  20. would the doctors get same pay? would that increase the price of the ambulance ride?
  21. well put duke, and its never going to happen MAYBE at certain companies but thats it getting rid of emt-b will never happen nation wide. it can't you have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run.
  22. is the place where para lives dirt poor. i heard of some towns not having money for ems/ fire/ police thats why there are volly s i lived in a one horse town for a few years that there were 3 paid cops and the ems / fire were vollies. also for me where i live( phila) to get into the 911 system either as a basic or medic 95%of the time you have to vol first to get the experience before a company will hire you for a paying position.
  23. isn't a paramedic an emt? i learned that there were three levels emt basic, emt intermediate, and emt paramedic.
  24. dustdevil, were you ever a "noob" or an emt-b or does it go from God to Jesus to you. i am not questioning your education or intelligence im sure you are very educated but it seem like you are always picking on " noobs" or emt - b. did something happen to you while you were an emt- b let it out do you want to talk about it. i thought this site was to help others in ems not belittle them cause you think there question or comment is dumb .
  25. i believe that emt are a good thing. not just because i am one. who would do the transporting ? paramedics? then who would do the 911 paramedics? maybe thats fine in small towns but i know in phila, pa there is already a shortage of paramedics for the 911 system so if emt b's got eliminated that would destroy phila, pa. half of the emtb s will not make it to paramedics not sure if i will it it a difficult career. so you can't just say that all the emtb s will become medics
