Needing fire on a cardiac arrest
ambodriver replied to crazyemt5150's topic in General EMS Discussion
Hmm we have a Carevent, but its great to have another person in the back to help with CPR. Then again our EMS is part of the FD so we have no problem getting help. Engines have a medic, and some EMT's on them. Great to have them in situations like this. For the most effective CPR its best to have more than 1 person says the AHA---I tend to believe them on this one! -
lol wtf is Garfield podunk volunteer station? Laughable at best, to have a bunch of teenagers running around with patches on their arm whining about being First Lt. or not. EMS my ass, this is about stoking your ego. Volunteering is retarded, never heard of nurses, docs, or medics volunteering for anything unless its a special one deal thing or Docs without borders type of thing. Get over yourselves, no one really cares about your podunk town, and your half-assed "EMS" service. I would love to throw one of these volunteers on the streets of Chicago for a shift and see what happens! I'd make a youtube video of it, would be great!

Work her, or let her float to the light ????????
ambodriver replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in Education and Training
Unless she is super cold/a little rigored we'd work 3 rounds of epi/atro Confirm the tube then call it in if no ROSC to terminate. Not my decision to work it or not. I am paid to do it even if I don't think its the right thing to do morally. "She was talking 5 minutes ago"--how many times have we heard that? ha. -
Never heard of a private with a union around here. So unionized private EMS still makes shit pay? That really sucks. A private is a private though. The ones around here like I said medics make about 9-13 an hour, its pretty dismal. I guess like how every service is different, every union is different too. I did my time on the privates. Around here its just a dead end job.

Whoa dude I think you misunderstand me I work for a muncipality. Wnhat do you mean did I check this out and putting all my eggs in a basket? I make good money, have a pension coming to me and have great benefits..............wtf are you talking about man? I'm telling you how it is here where I am--unless you have worked out here, and know how it works out here I wouldn't pretend to know how it is. Like I said--this is how it is where I am---not sure about anywhere else. Chicago is a great city so not sure wth you are talking about. I'm talking about the area where I live, non-unionized EMS makes shit money out here, "transfer jockeys" or real ems. So this is about where I am and how it works here. Not sure how it works wherever you are, but the union does us good here. edit: let it be known that in the chicago area 911 is handled by FD's---I am a single role medic working in the FD.
-
the economics where I'm from show that non-unionized EMS workers (100% of them for profit, private "EMS") get paid cose to min. wage with horrible insurance and no pension. Maybe a measly 1-2% match in a IRA. whoopty dooooooo. That's how it is where I am from. Unions negotiate realistic wages instead of raping people. Especially medics. Why should a private medic in Chicago make 9-13 dollars an hour? Pretty hard to live off that........
-
edit: NM, things are different where I live.
-
without a union im sure I would be getting paid private, for profit ems wages. Thank god for them. my pension, my wage is due to them. You see what happens when private ems runs things w/o a union? I can't believe people live on those wages

wow this made me laugh. blah blah blah really.

would it have been better to drop a few NTG and drop pressure so until you cannot give lasix, or just go straight to the lasix? Also--are you sure the tube wasn't in? It's hard to believe a whole ER staff will not recognize a bad tube. Sounds like a good pt. to use cpap on -- or even intubate. The vent might be able to do good things for her. Your system sounds like crap, no RSI, no CPAP, and you are a 2.5 month medic working with a EMT? Also someone can jump in your ambulance and take over the call? Weird. Where is this? Also you said there was no radial pulse, I'm wondering if the BP was correct, you gave it in odd numbers, were you using a machine? Maybe the medic was right about not give the lasix/NTG. Who knows--I am just throwing out ideas, I was not there

lol! So true! -
Management of the seizure patient
ambodriver replied to under-dreaming's topic in General EMS Discussion
Management of the actively seizing pt. should always start with a trumpet and O2---then control of the seizure! and someone seizing for 20 mins-----thats a long long time to be seizing. Either the pt. was faking---or something funny is going on----there is strong potential for serious hypoxia and death with a seizure lasting that long. Yikes -
Sadddest Call Ever ?????????
ambodriver replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in General EMS Discussion
Saddest call EVER. So it was a blustery snowy X-mas day. The ham and roast cooked by the fireman was moments away from coming out of the oven. My mouth was watering. I was ready to feast and do nothing----hey it's X-Mas why should I have to work. Suddenly the tones go off----and we hear the familiar voice of dispatch. "XXXXX you are due to respond to the 24 y/o female with abdominal pain. Get on scene---and its glaringly obvious BLS--walk her in the ambo, drive all the way to the hospital. Get back to the firehouse and cry b/c I didn't get the first pickings of meat on the roast. True story. Saddest call ever. -
Let's not jump to any conclusions---------maybe it was the pt. who was adamant about not seeking treatment. How many times have you had the MI pt. adamantly refuse to go even though you say hey look at this EKG---you will die! Sometimes people have to be accountable for their own stupid mistakes. All I am really saying is that I don't know whats going on in this scenario and I refuse to blame the medic or emt without knowing the truth.
-
wow thats sickening. Now Walmart is responsible for the stupidity of others? How typical of American society. How far we have fallen. Makes me sick to be an American sometimes.

Remove 12 Lead from ambulances ???????
ambodriver replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in General EMS Discussion
Hey all I know Mr. Ambodriver is if that BS degree helps you operate a ambo then more power to you bro. However let me break it down to you, you see we already have enough propeller heads in this industry that think that getting a masters and being a wizard is so much more important then street smarts. How about you leave the realistic life saving to the professionals (firefighter/paramedics) that don't worry about being able to recite a medical manual word for word. Reality is the key to sucess in the 21st century I fail to see your point. I am a fire medic. Nice try though! As far as how much should medics learn about 12 leads? Everything. When I call report to the hospital my readings are on point---I would expect the same out of everyone else giving me info on a 12 lead. -
funny the people taking the video or those around them are criticizing the cpr "no mouf to mouf" and they are giggling throughout the video just gawking at the dead guy. what a joke

Remove 12 Lead from ambulances ???????
ambodriver replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in General EMS Discussion
B/C undereducated providers, such as yourself will make moronic judgements calls based on a non-educated whim, such as 12 leads are worthless pre hospital, when in fact, you probably do not know how to read them. Lets drop morphine and nitro into a a right side MI right?? Well, there's my 2nd point for having 12 leads. Read my other posts in this thead regarding STEMI's for more. I don't care about people giving their services away for free as a EMT LOL. I work in a very very large municipality and get paid well to do so, so not really seeing your point?
