  1. Well, I certainly have not been on this site in a while. I have my reasons. Mostly because I have lost some interest in the emergency medical feild after some recent experiences. Yea for thoes of you following my life, it just keeps sucking lol. Anyways I wanted to stop in and say hi and tell everyone how much I think this show is an amazing peice of crap. I watched the first episode and wont even continue to watch it for free online. One guy I talked to said that its just a show and it sucking has nothing to do with how it portrays EMS. Well, for someone who does this job, he certainly knows nothing about how impressionable and often gullible people in this world are. Especially people who watch TV. Damn, for that matter hes obviously never met my mother. If he thinks for a moment that there isnt a single person in the world who donst believe the (sometimes blaitantly obvious) garbage put on TV, well I rest my case in the: Arrogant "Trauma" Fans v. Real EMS Proffesionals argument lol. **STEPS OFF MY BROKEN SOAP BOX**
  2. Very good Richard. Though I was a fan of the FN P90 before they started using it on Stargate. The PS90 is a civillian legal version. It still fires the 5.7 round, basically the only difference is a few inches on the barrel and its semi-auto only. It really is a damn good gun considering its size and odd feed mechnism from the mag to the chamber.
  3. A few years back before I left my hometown, my department was having a social function for its members and there happened to be some models doing a shoot in the area. I was sent out on a public service run and who knows why I didnt take my gear, just left it on the engine. Anyways I return to find out that someone allowed said models (without approval of an officer no less) to pose on our apparatus... IN MY GEAR that I left on the engine. Some people thought it was funny, I was pi$$ed. Our department name and my name was on my helmet. Never saw the pics. Hope that it was dealt with by an officer before they left. And yes I think things like this are totally un-professional as are the fundraiser calanders some departments do. Additionally I dont think to fond of female firefighters (or firefighters wives) using their (spouses) gear for their own personal photo shoots for their significant others collection. No matter how secure thoes pics may be and no matter if they somehow got an officers approval. DISCLAIMER: For anyone who chooses to missinterprit where I said, "I do not think fond of female firefighters..." finish the reading before you get pissed please. I think fondly of anyone who can do any job properly if not beyond expectations. TO DO LIST: 1) Get HOOTERS tank top 2) Get some daisy dukes 3) Get wig 4) Shave chest and legs 5) End day with relaxing stroll through the neighborhood with my PS-90
  4. Well Lone, we would have happally done that if it were possibe. Thing is when she finally decided to go down (steps from going out the door) it just so happend to be in a place where barley one of the four of us coud fit with her. We had the recources to do what you suggest... but even rolling her and pushing something rolled halfway up against her back and flipping her to pull (as you would change a bed without moving a pt) was completley out of the question. Had she not been in severe respritory distress, yea maybe we woulda had time. I wasnt on the initial crew... I neglected to mention I was actually the backup. Why the initial crew let a morbidly obese pt walk that far while in severe respritory distress I have no clue. Sorry for leaving out the details, been a long week.
  5. Barriatrics is no fun when your patient tries to make it to the door with your assistance, dosnt and lays down on the floor near the door but still inside. Then you gatta move her on to a backboard and straddle her lifting her fat up so she can fit through the door while your partner and backup pulls the backboard through. You could smell the patient from outside the house... I never took so many showers in one day than I did that one. Thankfully it was end of my shift and I had worked the maximum hours allowed per day by company protocols.
  6. Dust is that in corallation with No Child Left Behind? I dont know if that was just a Connecticut or not but basically no recess, more books more tests to make the lazy kids look like they are doing more while simultaneously putting an excessive work load on kids that actually do their homework?
  7. Maybe she could seek out assistance from the ever so biased and opionated Justice Sotomayaer?
  8. Thanks all for your responses... I think Ill stick to an acoustic scope for now. Much appreciated as always.
  9. Well Mrs. Bedgood thats not good spirit. Yes I know Im only 24 and just a baby still and yes your statment is technically true. But regardless of age and your still young, you can do a lot. I know you dont want to be a nurse but this is just an example. A friend of mine went for her BS as an RN at the age of 50 and completed it successfully. I know another RN that started around 48 or 49. Also, I just read an article on yahoo about 2 months or ago about a man in his 60s who applied for a police department with no age limit. He was hired (with NO prior experience law enforcement or military) and graduated the academy top of his class both in academics and PHYSICAL training. While it may not be true physically, I feel in mind it holds pretty solid ground that your only as young as you feel. Ive only been in EMS for 6 years. Im a bit bored with it but feel it is more an educational thing than anything else. Once I get my Connecticut EMT-B transfered and upgraded to a Tennessee EMT-IV, I plan to seek out an Associates Degree as a Paramedic. In addition Im starting to save up some cash so I can start taking instructor courses. Ive been told that Im a great teacher and I plan to take advantage of that. Id like to start my own business once I gain enough experience. Thats just me though. I dont have much in the way of advice I can offer you. Most everyone here has already touched on things I would have said. I do agree though that 5 years isnt very long, but in the end only you can decide that for yourself. Im happy for you that you have a patient husband. If only my ex-wife were tha same way.
  10. Oooooh, I get it. THATS why the first EMS company I worked for sucks so much... its owned by a man who was only an EMT-Basic for maybe a decade, and that was in the caddilac days. I always thought it had something to do with his real-estate and other properties including half the city the EMS company is in being more important. Im not being sarcastic either. This is a man who orders us to park unused ambulances on the cliff overlooking the city for advertising purposes (NOT PR).
  11. Hello friends. Hope your all doing well. As I break back into EMS I am seeking a new scope and having used and loved the cheapest scope in Littmanns lineup (the Lightweight) I dont think I will ever go to another brand. I am considering an electronic scope in part because of its claim for ambient noise cancellation, and sometimes I just have a hard time with lung sounds. I am just curious as if anyone owns either model and what they think of it vs. an accoustic scope? I know a couple people who have sworn by them but they are kinda the popularity bandwagon types. I know they come with a hefty price but have found a site that offers them for $259 (3000) and $299 (3100) which seems fairly reasonable http://www.allheart.com/littmannscopes.htm...id=yahoo_ssp_bd Pros and cons would be great as well as just overall feedback on what you think of yours or if you have used someone elses. Thanks and as always stay safe.
  12. Could you be more specific? I know you said you cant explain it but I really dont understand what "it" is. Do you not like the company? Do you not like something they do (or dont do) or may have said? Coult it also be that, as you said, you just moved across the country? I just moved from Connecticut to Tennessee and while I like it 100 times better here, Fire/EMS is almost a different monster here, the job seems to be a lot more serious. Not to mention getting used to the people as well as the weather (about 115 heat index here vs. 80 maybe 90 degrees back home at this time). I cant really offer much advice, but if you could be more specific Id love to try too. How much research on this company did you do? Did you move for the job or get the job because you moved? How well did you research the area before hand?
  13. Thats not what I mean chaser. From a mating stand point color plays a role in the mate an animal chooses. It dosnt apply to all animals and Ill call myself out on it not being enirley pertinant to the topic but it still holds relevance. Is it the same as a human being racist? No... but to say that colors of one animal dont mean anything to another is not entirley true.
  14. Crochity, no offense brother but I have been away from this site for quite a while and I come back and your still posting about racism and stuff. There is no doubt in my mind that racism still exists and Im sure the average person who looks at the world with open eyes knows this too. Im willing to bet most of us in this feild look at the world with open eyes. Color does play into how animals of the same species look at eachother... it all comes down to mating. Does that make it allright for humans to be the same way? Of course not, but the afore mentioned still stands as fact. Im just curious though Crochity, what exactly have you been trying to prove? Im not saying racism dosnt exist, but I dont think as many people are as blind to it as you might think. Not trying to break your balls. Just curious about what goes on in your mind. Meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder. Damn, I could really go for some venisin.
  15. Dust you certainly dont have to tell me twice. I know Ive told this story a million times here but having dated a wal-mart employee and working full time EMS 60 or so + hours a week and being told by said employee that my job is easy and hers is hard cuz "all I do" is drive a truck? Id love to see her get punched in the face by a drunk at 3am who just flipped daddys Mustang GT and at that point has nothing to lose. And do I even need to mention: Never anyone around when you have a question and if there is its, "not my department I dont know anything about that." Or my personal favorate Theres like 400 employees there, 4 out of 30 cash registers open, everyone has the max 20 items for the 20 or Less lane, I have ONE item and the self check out lanes are closed as always Other than that I like Wally World. I do feel bad for all thoes mom and pop stores but hey, when they start offering the things I need I will shop there, untill then its their problem. Ok Ruff, Im sorry. Off my horse now and you can have your thread back.
  16. Whats even more funny about this picture is not only that it knocks Oboma but also Pfizer. Having worked for them back in Connecticut, I can say the ad is just as aplicable to them. NOTE: ADULT CONTENT BELOW THIS QUOTE!!! I was in Wally World the other day in the pharmacy section and walked by a couple of employees who were stocking something next to the condoms and lubes. On close inspection it was some new vibrating ring that attatches to that special part for both his and her pleasure. Promptly after one employee pulled it out and examined it she said something like, "will we be selling dildos next?"
  17. Im a white tea person myself. Not brewed though, I like the bottled stuff, cant remember if its lipton or nestea though. Anyways I thought that video was pretty funny, and the quality was very good. Best of luck on the scholarship contest Christine. Let us know how it went! I agree Ruff, a lot of comedies these days seem to be directed towards stoners and slackers... but that dosnt per say mean that some arnt good. Already though I digress. Ruff, I dont know what kinda movies you like but I dare you to go see The Hangover and not even smile. That movie is hillarious!!! I havnt been to a movie that got a standing ovation at the end in a long time.
  18. So... looking at this mouse makes me wonder if we should rule out a blue M&M addiction before assuming cyanossis?
  19. If things in EMS were better mandated then all of our talk about higher education, EMS as its own organization, where it falls in the spectrum of public health and public safety etc.... would be meaningless because there would actually be better structure. Leaving us to explain to our significant others who work at walmart that our job is generally alot tougher than theirs and we dont just drive a truck all day. Man that was 3 years ago and I havnt seen her since but I still want to ring her neck lol.
  20. As I sit up late, occasionally smacking myself in the head for being a procrastonator when it comes to homework... I still wonder what the point of what Im doing is. First and foremost when it comes to ICS, I would rather watch thoes corny, way out of date training videos that for some reason are still used to teach classes today. Additionally, Id much rather be reading a privacy act agreement. A little over a month ago our agency was given an assignment to complete some NIMS / ICS courses online as personal training. I had luckily already completed a few of them in the past and was relieved about that once I looked over the list. Still to go, and was due at 2359 yesterday (the 26th) IS 800.b National Response Framework and IS 805 Emergency Support Function. Please feel free to correct my arrogance but how is some of this helpful to me as a grunt? For someone whos working in emergency management on a local, state or federal level or intends to then I can see the relevance. I also see the importance of standardizing things such as plain language radio communications, paper work and other related items to promote interagency operabilty. BUT CAN THIS STUFF BE MORE DRY? Sure Id rather not learn the importance of the afore mentioned the hard way... but I can see, by these teaching methods, why some agencies still work in the dark ages. Ive completed several lessons that are probably 1-2hrs a piece that pretty much are all about the same damn thing. 800.b is teaching me about different roles of people... but I honestly doubt I will ever work directly along side the President of the USA or Director of Homeland Security in an emergency. Ok I also know that Im not the only person who feels ill when it comes to this stuff. I know that probably a majority of us would opt not to do any of it. But of course the government wants a certain percentage of a given agency to have this training to be considered eligiable for grants. I will give them credit for that, its a pretty smart catch. Sorry. Im overtired and kicking myself in the arse for putting this off for so long. Its really my fault and I know that... but some enlightenment on what Im supposed to be learning would be great.
  21. Ive learned, tested and approve of the use of pepperment extract for minor headaches. Generally I dont like taking meds for headaches unless they are really bad. An ex told me to buy some peppermint extract and rub it on my temples, to my skepticism and surprise it actually worked. Downfall is that stuff can be expensive... like $4 for a small bottle. Ive also found by accident that rubbing it under your nose works pretty decent for nasal and sinus congestion.
  22. Richard, either I missed something since I moved to Tennessee or the rumor mill in FDNY is big lol. Just kidding. Ummm well a couple years ago on I-95 in Waterford there was a tractor trailer (tanker) vs another (box) vs like 5 cars. Tripple fatality and it shut down I-95 for almost 24 hours. There was also a tanker truck in the New Haven area a couple years prior... cant remember what happened but it melted a bridge on I-95 when it burned. Dont remember anything about missles... though with Electric Boat and the Naval Submarine Base / Sub Warfare School I wouldnt doubt it.
  23. Thats a negative sir. Recruit Sustainment Program, Phase 1, 3rd Platoon out of Camp Rell in Niantic, CT. Discharged about a week before OSUT for 31 Bravo (Military Police Officer) at FT Leonardwood. If Im not mistaken youll be heading out to L'wood if your ganna be an engineer? Again, best of luck.
  24. Nope, Connecticut. Its a wonderful land of highways built for capacities before almost everyone had a car. Almost every major highway is only 2 lanes in one direction... by the time they finish expanding to 4 lanes the roads will be too heavily traveled for that. So happy I dont live there anymore.
  25. Im sure thats not how he meant it either but Dust, damn! Your last post was very nicley put.
