Get those degrees in EMS/Paramedicine

Great idea Doc... seriously. Whats holding you up from getting started? This may be a few paragraphs of banter but it could be something big. Perhaps free tuition should be offered to thoes of us members of the city who have been here prior to your posting this idea  Or well, at least a 50% off voucher lol -
Michael, I can honestly say that after watching that video that Im going to join my wife in not eating fast food for 6 months. Thanks. Granted thats not fast food... its still just as bad. ~~~~ As far as the complaint about the nurses Im at a loss for words... they make no complaint (at least according to the video) of him pretending to be a doctor. But then again maybe because hes more appropriatley attired? Im guessing its more so about the atire and how it depicts a nurse than the use of the title that they are complaining about... the title is the only thing they have to make a legitamate complaint over. Frankly, while I cant speak for the average Joe Schmoe, I dont see a big deal in the costume theme... and I know nurses arnt ( generally  ) "brainless sluts." My major gripe is that the attire is a bit over the top. I also dont eat at Hooters. Yes I can admire the female body with respect regardless of what shes wearing... but that dosnt mean I need to see almost all of it. Im not sure about Arizona... but then again it may be a national standard... here in Connecticut you can not work in the kitchen area of a resturaunt without wearing no-slip closed shoes. Having worked in a kitchen for a short time wearing proper attire but still slipping and injuring myself, I cant imagine how they do it or get away with it. And being of the non-foot-fetish persuasion I find it disghusting. I walked into a Quiznos and the employees (of a certain ethnic decent) working in food prep were wearing sandals or flip flops. I have nothing against them as a whole or their customs... but come on your handling food!!!

Damn it I laughed so hard I almost started to cry... thats great doc thanks.

Hitler wrote a book while in prison before his rise and creation of Nazi Germany. I hope for the sake of history that the next time this guy poops in a mailbox that he isnt allowed near books, or office stationary. I can see it now Ari Brouillette's rise to conqour the republican party and democracy as a whole started at the tender age of 21 when he began a crime spree of public intoxication leading to multiple offenses of lude conduct and public defication in mail boxes. Brouillette is quoted in an interview during his campaign, "if our freedoms are going to be taken away from us, then I will leave them with some parting gifts.

Connecticut medics are licensed without an AS degree. EMTs and First Responders are certified. Just throwing that in there. -

CTX maybe Im misunderstanding you or maybe its just done differently where you went to school as opposed to here but check this out: http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/dpHealthParamed.htm http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/dpHealthParamedEMS.htm http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/dpHealthParamedEMR.htm For the most part all three of these classes have an identical curriculum but as far as I can tell (short of looking up what Humanities classes are offered) everything there is relevant. Again, Im sure its different from one place to another. Capital Community College has one of the better and tougher medic classes here in Connecticut. -
Hey mom just thought Id say happy birthday. Hope all is well.

Fizz, I couldnt possibly agree more. I know it first hand and believe that applies even to your days in high school. I was always told by my teachers I was a smart and well rounded kid, that if Id just pay attention to my work more I could excell more. Of course Id much rather be sitting in my EMT or Fire-1 class or chillin at the firehouse. So yea I have the training to do my job... but hell my math skills are slow at best, my love for history is looking up things I could already know... etc. When I look back at things we take for granted it amazes me. I was up in Wethersfield the other night during that snow "storm," dont know if you were on the road or not Fizz, and the highways sucked. All I kept wishing for was that simple little white dotted line to appear. It didnt of course, and made for a tough ride home. My point is that even something that sounds simple can be of great importance. -

Only on problem... I cant even afford to get my paramedic let alone my AS or BS as a paramedic? Student loans, thoes umm things that people claim you cant get turned down for because its a different type of loan, yep Ive been denied  I would absoloutley love to get my medic and a degree at the same time, but I cant even front the $4-$8 grand to take a standard course. -

New Year's Confessions - Whackerism

My wife just got a promotion at work, which means a transfer and eventual move for us. Anyways theres toy store next to the store she now runs. The store is mostly geared towards toddlers (of rich parents lol) and has the whole line of police fire and ambulance vehicles of that namebrand you show. My whacker conffesion is upon seeing these toys the other day I honest to god want to buy them all. They have everything from bomb disposal robots to hazmat and river rescue units. And not badly priced either. Playmobile has some cool stuff to but they are frigging expensive. I want to have kids now just so I wont look like a freak buying this stuff for myself. Ill add that they are all pretty well detailed considering the age group they are geared towards. Though for spenac's sake they need to make a white ambulance. If he sees this thing painted red he'll have a seizure  Sorry spen. -
Well, Im sure you have already tried there but youd be surprised what Wal-Mart carries. Up here at least they have tons of fire, ems, and military fabrics in the crafts department. Probably not fleece though. But its worth a shot if you havnt already looked.

When I say buddies Ill emphasize that they are not friends lol. And yes they have everything from Federal Q ringtones to the tones and dispatch from Emergency! -
Come on Dust... you know this guy musta been there when Steve Irwin took the sting ray to the heart. The poor guy is probably suffering from PTSD or some paragod syndrome.

Anyone ever actually deal with these guys? I mean I just cant help but wonder if its the norm for them or just show off the cameras. Watch out and dont sprain your ankle... any pain radiation upwards may be a long bone fracture... get the hare traction!
-
I can only hope that you plan to top something naturally intended for consumption? lol sorry
-
Kaisu, sorry to hear about your situation. I hope that you guys can work things out. Ultimatley I think there are far to many variables to answer a question as to if EMS can effect a marrage or relationship. Short answer yes. Breaking it down... not nessecarilly. I dated a girl who was hell bent on insisting that all I do in my proffesion is drive. That I have no right to complain about work related stress because my job is easy. That I wouldnt know what work related stress is. Yep, she works at fu*king WalMart! Ive been in EMS for 5 years... active for maybe 4 1/2 of the 5 and been married for 3 months now. My wife and I have a bit of a rocky relationship and have dated on and off for 2 years prior to our recent marrage. She knows all to well my dedication to what I do. Twice I have helped her mother (may she rest in peace) during altered mental status episodes one involving an overdose of pain killers (for the life of me I cant even remember what it was, just that its morphine x10). And a couple of times I have helped her as well. Never actually treated them in an ambulance as I would not allow myself to be the primary tech on such call, but untill EMS arrived I acted in my scope of practice. Theres alot she would never understand, like that whole brotherhood thing... but she knows I dont just drive.

Though Ive been with a number of different organizations most around here go to the end of the month. Frankly I would go by the first of the month but thats just my cautious side. While Im no pharmiscist or chemist I would be willing to guess that expiration dates printed on most any product (not just including narcs) arnt close to an actual time. Ive drank milk thats a few weeks old... and a local mom and pops grocery store sells meat dirt cheap when its only days before it has to be disposed of. None of it is rancid, but state law requires it to be disposed of if not sold. I guess what Im saying is I treat expiration dates more so as a best if used by than this product will quite litterally be unusable at this specific date and time. I dont recomend treating any narcs as such, Im just saying more than likley they arnt actually going to be bad imediatley after the marked date.

My old FD where I got my origins from has a 1921 Ford Model T, the departments first apparatus when it incorporated. I dont know when that model siren came about but Im sure its made by Federal. It looks like a modern Q siren but a little smaller and in the back instead of a cone it has a hand crank on it. Aside from being quieter it sounds almost exactly the same as its younger electro/mechanical version. -
What Are You Improving At Your Service ?
Christopher.Collins replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in General EMS Discussion
Come to think of it, I recall a good example of what I just stated previously. Not trying to jack the thread on you crotchity... I find it related if thats alright. A particular Leutenant in a fire department I was once a member of didnt like me too much. I will agree with her that I could have put more effort into learning equipment on the apparatus, but there is so much a person can learn on their own when it comes to new (foriegn to a person) equipment. In other words I was getting the sh*t end of the stick for not knowing how to operate equipment I had never used before... when no one would ever go over it with me. Said leutenant would often tell the cheif Im not doing anything but socializing and watching TV (for reasons I wont discuss said leutenant was all to often telling the "truth" when it was in fact what she was always doing). So anyways, one day Im doing check sheets for our track safety vehicles we have for local stock car races... said leutenant just happens to be in charge of todays event, therfore in charge of the track apparatus and ambulance. So as Im doing checks on the bus I begin to find expired products... some almost a year past expiration. Turns out everything that could expire was expired even the epi-pens! I filled a large basin with all of it and while she was watching TV walked up to her in front of two other officers and told her to never tell me Im not doing my job again. In that particular department the leutenants are in charge of restock and vehicle checks. I can think of plenty of things Id love to make changes to in places Ive been... but because Ive moved on I can only take thoes experiences with me. Also, just how serious can you take any leader who happens to be large chested and jokingly has the name "FUN BAGS" printed on her radio harness for all to see. -

I hear you on that. I could ask no more from a supervisor or manager at any level than for them to step up and either offer help or do a "grunt job" to lighten the work load when short handed. In fact, its one thing that a supervisor can do to greatly earn my respect. And yes I did put supervisor, earn and my in the same sentence as the word respect. But I dont just mean that in Fire/EMS but in general in the working world. Im sorry but I think powers to be should have to earn respect from subordinates as well. Its one thing in life I will never GIVE ayone. Of course, anyone I dont know is given a degree of common courtesey and bennefit of the doubt untill proven otherwise or respect is earned. Im not a trouble maker nor to I question authority and orders, I just feel that having a title does not exempt you from what would be required from your subordinates nor does it nessecarilly make you worthy of the position or good at what you(r supposed to) do.
