  1. your right ff4193 firemedics are truly trained in all diversities, when it comes to fire suppression, rescue and ems, as far as the west coast is comcerned ems will be part of the fire service no matter what the rest of the country does, and thats just fine with me, I enjoy working 10 days out of the month and making over 100k a year, with all my other perks and benifits
  2. LOL, I see your point, but people are saying make paramedic a BS, and thats cool and all, but I can't see someone going to scool for four years to volunteer, makes no sense.
  3. Private ems is not a profession, but a stepping stone to a bigger and better career. but I do agree 12 leads save lives, not quite as good as AEDs, but they help.
  4. What are you talking about?, you can spend your whole career on an ambulance in LA, Quality, What this is EMS buddy, if its bleeding cover it, if its broken splint it, and ABC's thats it.
  5. Well at least the $$$$ is good.
  6. More education WHY?, people will still give their service away for free.
  7. Los Angeles Fire Department runs a good show, and the pay is excellent.
  8. I bet he meant to say is that most EMS calls are BLS, but kind of scary when you need ALS right away.
  9. yeah rcc, you foregot to tell her if your a decnt looking girl they the fire guys will be nice too.
  10. Well then LA county EMT's can't do much other than assist with the admin of a pt's own perscription med, but you can run 911 calls with LA county fire, just be ready to be told what to do and how do do it. Orange county EMT's can't do mucah at all, and they transport with Orange County fire, but your treated in the same manner. Some ambulance companies to keep in mind, CARE, Doctors, Medix, and Westmed.
  11. Paramedics don't make much more than EMT's, and there are no private medics in the county of Orange. However you can apply for LAFD as an EMT and if hired could make over 100k a year without being a Paramedic.
  12. make a standard national fitness level for all EMS providers, you bady mass index stuff.
  13. everyone seems to have great valid points, but with today's economy can the privates stay afloat? or will everything go to public saftey tpye of systms?
  14. AMR says they are about to strike with on other options left. The city says that is just fine, saying that Fire Department parameidcs can handle the current call volume, with todays economy does anyone see this as a practacal solution or trend?
  15. No, don't need any calls, just my pay, PERS, and benifits.
  16. As 911 responders every call is an emergency.
  17. Hey buddy pwer in numbers, yes I know the IAFF negotiates
  18. I figure it's that these applicants want to make real money, have a great retirment, and be a hero.
  19. Whatever call it what you want, but the FD's can't get enough of Paramedic at this point in time, just about every FD in and around LA county are taking applications on a ongoing basis.
  20. If you can't have fun with this job, what's the point
  21. No doubt, but at least where I live and the surrounding counties all have A.S. Paramedic degrees. I don't think there is anything shorter left in whole state, I could be wrong if anyone knows of a progrm out there.
  22. Again, 12-Leads = BIG racks.
  23. No California is not a 13 week cram session anymore, not since it became a registry state, I beieve we have two year progams now, but anywho, classes are not filling up as fast as the two year RN program, so there is a significant shortage of paramedics here, but in order to make a livable wage you have to be crossed trained and become a firefighter/paramedic, and I don't think that is going to change anytime soon, as far as the formal education is concerned most departments prefer A.S. in fire scinece, but a H.S. diplom or GED will meet the requirmnts of the job flyer.
  24. Making the Paramedic level a B.S. is fine with me, already a Paramedic, so I guess the only ones who get screwed are the EMT-Basic's, again fine with me.
