  4. Well, that was 90 seconds I'll never get back.....
  5. I posted 8 photos on Facebook in the album "EMS around the world" http://t.co/TjOSgU4w

  6. I used to think so, but then you showed up. Your treatment was obviously ineffective.
  7. Wow, you really know how to make friends, don't you.
  8. However, if you did piss in his cornflakes he'd be laid out for a month with all those meds you take.
  9. That is something I'd like to determine as well. Is a long program better than a short one? What would we use as benchmarks though? Objective criteria such as pass/failure rate and exam marks don't accurately reflect the quality of the practitioner, while subjective criteria such as scenario performance and evaluations of patient care can't be evaluated in a consistent manner.
  10. Emily, we all agree that you're are doing right by your patient in turning them on their side to ensure the airway is clear, what we call into question is the lack of professionalism involved in your admission that your entire organisation intentionally attempts to contaminate their partner. Rolling the patient so he pukes on the floor is inconsequential and occupational hazard. We can step over the puddle, or throw a soaker over it so we don't track it around the back of the ambulance. However, you describe it as though you grab the spineboard and flip the patient haphazardly onto his side without warning your partner that he's about to hurl into his lap when what you should be doing is getting your partner to assist with C-spine control while the patient is rolled onto his side until the airway is clear. Clearing the airway of a vomitting patient with a suspected spinal injury is not a game and I sincerely hope that you have absolutely no patients with a long term spinal deficit, because if his lawyer were to stumble across this conversation....well....
  11. Tip of the Day: If your power goes out, a full freezer can hold food safely for up to 48 hours.

  12. And your organisation doesn't write you up for that? Intentionally attempting to expose a co-worker to potentially contaminated fluids is a dangerous and disrespectful practise. I'm sure that OSHA would have something to say about it as well. If I ever caught someone in my company doing that they'd be facing a suspension without pay at the minimum. i won't even go into what is wrong with patient care when doing that because i'll have to steal some of Kiwi's valiumz to calm down...and he won't share. Honestly Emily, I'm disappointed, I thought you were better than that.
  13. I think that might be where we get off lucky with a (basically) government run school being the only institution providing training for PCPs and ACPs. The program may be a prescribed duration, but there is nothing stopping them from adding more time to the programs as additional skills and assessments are added to the provincial Scope. Especially if the time frame provided grows too crammed with information.
  14. Yeah, any time I see a post from someone who has a user name with three alphabetical characters followed by a 2 digit number....I take a grain of salt before I read. Gotta give him some credit though, his trolling has created some valuable discussion.

  16. Thoughts and prayers go out to Upper Kingsclear NB Fire Dept. and the family of another paramedic taken before his time. RIP Peter Orchard

  17. He never called it a third world country at all...I believe you owe Richard an apology for jumping all over him like that.
  18. Sucks to be you, I'll stop twice next time. Do they often write you up for the way you drive in your POV?
  19. Trolls are lazy fat asses who don't have to get off the sofa to enjoy their little games.
  20. What? You think that doctors don't drink? Seriously, people here have some serious cranialrectitis inversion this weekend.
  21. Oh, I dunno, I might like to visit Iowa one day. Afterall, isn't RADAR from there? Otumwa?
  22. I would, but I doubt that any here would want to take a 75% pay cut.
  23. And kate gets FTW in this thread for hitting the nail square on the head. Different jurisdictions have different requirements. Our absolute basic entry level here is an 80 hour course (EMR), the next step is 28 weeks(PCP) and the final step is the 59 week ACP course. Beyond the ACP training we also have specialised training for aeromedical, facility based, and mobile health.
  24. But they're both descriptors, neither would have precedence over the other...i do know where you're coming from though. A person employed as an EMT who has epilepsy.
  25. You didn't miss anything, just a story about how 23% of the injuries to Boston EMTs are from violence of some sort. Link still works for me tho.
