  1. No, my other medic is off, it'll be nice to get Steph back. Have a SUMA convention next week though, that oughta be fun.
  2. It's actually mandatory for my staff to wear pink t-shirts on pink shirt day. They wear them over their regular uniform shirts for the full effect.
  3. Unit #1683 is conducting an interfacility transfer to Melfort hospital.

  4. Kiwi, out here in the boonies, call back and overtime is mandatory. Essentially, you're at the base for 8 - 12 hours a day, but then you're on call for the rest of the day. If a trip comes in, you go. Many services compensate their staff in many different ways. For example, My slaves make 25 bucks an hour and get paid 8 hours a day, while on call for the other 16 they get paid 2.19 per hour. If they get a call during their oncall time they get paid $38 bucks an hour for the duration of the call. Other companies pay their slaves the same hourly wage, but only 4 or 6 hours a day, then the $2.19 per hour for the remainder of the day. However, if they get a call out they don't accrue overtime until they hit a combined total of 162 hours in a month in car and regular pay. We're on 24 hour call, usually 6 days on 3 days off.
  5. Travel not recommended status has been removed from all highways around Kelvington. Drive Safe!!

  6. Wow, CPAP is a basic skill here.
  7. -24 now, but the snow has stopped and the wind isn't as bad. Still, roads aren't recommended for travel, but we'll go out now.
  8. Shrug, what springs to mind is that she was recently sexually assaulted, likely hasn't told anyone. Doc's exam set off some PTSD. If she refuses I'll accept that, reluctantly, and not without some heart to hert discussion. I'd get her NOK involved.
  9. Perhaps others don't have the luxury, but I do, and i'll spend all day with her if she needs me. However, if she refuses service, I'll leave. Kind of a sexist organisation though...no female medics? Really?
  10. Hopefully my partner is female....if not, I'm calling for one.
  11. Hey Rock...you a CFL fan? I thought Ol' Geroy would retire a Lion.
  12. Really? Oral exams aren't allowed for the disabled? Isn't the school concerned about the Persons with Disabilities Act, or whatever it's called there?
  13. Welcome to the city Harrison. Mike, thanks for the twitter follow. I love it when celebs follow me.
  14. There are a few drifts on the side roads...if we go out again today I'll try to hit a few for ya. Vis isn't all that bad, 400m. I've driven in fog that's far worse...it's those darn finger drifts across the road that mess ya up.
  15. Dyslexics tend to fare well if the instructor provides an oral exam. As do others with reading disabilities. They are also auditory learners and find it difficult to impossible to learn from a book. I've altered my teaching style accordingly. Fortunately, in this day and age we have audio books that can help these folks through the lion's share of the reading.
  16. Suffice it to say that non emergent transfers out of town are not being conducted today, but even dogs are dialing 911 ffs.
  17. That's was my conclusion too Chris. Basically, the pump was working, but so poorly that we couldn't palpate a pulse and that on it's own the brain wasn't being perfused. However, with the compressions the job was getting done. I just wish I could have had a way to determine what the exact mechanism was. Was it the CPR alone? Were our compressions causing the heart to actually beat more effectively and faster? Without the monitor we'll never know.
  18. Travel is not recommended on highways 49, 38, & 35 around Kelvington. #skstorm #stayhome #staysafe

  19. Transported a guy once who could actually give me feedback if I needed to improve my CPR. If I stopped he'd GCS 3, but if I was doing good compressions he'd remain alert and oriented. This was years before ALS was available and we didn't even have a monitor. When we got to the hospital they got the monitor on and discovered a Sinus brady of 10 - 20. Transported him for a pacemaker insertion and he lived for many more years. That was the best CPR learning experience EVER!!! I learned exactly what worked best, how hard, fast, and deep was ideal, and he only complained about us beating on his chest once...and it was more of a "Man, this is uncomfortable but better than the alternative" complaint.
  20. Sorry Mike, I know almost nothing of gun laws in the States. I was just topping off the quote regarding the law in Canada.
  21. In addition to trigger locks and ammo stored in a different location.
