  1. errr, Awkward!!!
  2. Why does this seem so familiar? Oh, yeah
  3. Who you callin' old? You leave Patton's beads alone, go get yer own.
  4. Yeah, and there are no homosexuals in Iran either.
  5. Yeah, and I've also known little old ladies who have had a heart rate on the 30-40s for years with no ill effects. Or my father whose resting BP was usually 90/50. We didn't put the LOLs on a pacer, or give my dad a fluid challenge. That doesn't mean that we should invalidate every vital sign taken just because the minority of people are outside the norm. This is why we obtain a patient history in the first place. We're expected to be able to use our brains when we assess a client, not just disregard a vital sign because we don't like what it tells us and getting a patient history is just common sense.
  6. Where'd you get all those beads from?
  7. Not to nit pick...but I'm gonna. The only time you use the word "Past" is in a chronological reference. ie, Past, Present, Future. Your patients passed away. Literacy is a big part of our job whether we like it or not. Anthony and I have pretty similar views. I may review a call in my head and on occasion dwell on something that I might have done better; but, when all is said and done either they are revived, or they are not. I learn from it and move on. Once the code is called I turn my attention to the family to provide support until someone else closer to them arrives to take over. Life is a terminal illness, and death is inevitable. Don't be disturbed that you aren't bothered by their deaths. The fact that you're recognising this bodes well that you understand the dying process and won't be deeply affected by it. I've never forced a family member to leave the area when we are running a code on a loved one, but I have made sure they understand that what they see may be disturbing. For some they need to see it for the closure, to see that we did everything that could be done. For others they choose not to see their loved one being abused in this manner. It's their choice, not mine.
  8. Last year my 16 y/o son got a concussion during a football game and was having lingering symptoms, so our doc sent him for a scan. We took him in the ambulance and I tended to him for the 2 hour trip into the city. When we arrived I gave my report to the doc who subsequently asked if there was any next of kin with the patient. I replied that his father was standing right in front of him and he looked over my shoulders trying to find the parent hiding behind me.
  9. Thinking of you and your family Richard.
  10. Unit 1683 is conducting an interfacility transfer to Melfort Hospital.

  11. By her own admission, Ms. Dugan is not using any scientific basis in her article. For example, she doesn't mention that a commercial airline pilot has to suffer through years or decades of ramen noodle diets and below poverty status income before they make "the show". Read it here.
  12. It doesn't look like WPW to me. There is no slurring on the upstroke of the R wave. Here's an example:
  13. Welcome to the City
  14. We have our ways.
  15. The story states "personal" cell phones. Most companies I am familiar with have company phones in each vehicle. Now those will just get used for personal reasons. I do believe it's rather silly of them to attempt to enforce a law by enacting a new rule. The law is already in place for cell phone use while driving, it's just redundant to try to enforce it within the company. Then again, my company is small and most of my staff know better than to chat with a friend on the phone when they should be tending to their patient.
  16. I plan on expanding it once you have your input and adjustments were made. Within the next couple of months. The intent was to always have it on a continental scale then expand internationally, but we determined that a beta test would be a good idea. Rather than risk hundreds of people and companies signing up then getting pissed off because it didn't work right we decided to open to the Canadian market first for the beta, then expand. Eventually there will be enhancements to the site that will cost money, such as highlighting a posting and such, but what you are already seeing should remain free.
  17. meh, it's not a money maker. At least not yet. As an operator I've learned that finding short term casual staff to cover occasional weekend shifts or short notice help is hard to locate, yet there are medics out there who already have full time work or are looking for work that are willing to pull the occasional weekend for a short staffed service. Job sites are a dime a dozen, but I've never located one that provided for short term work as well.
  18. Unit 1471 is conducting an emergency response in the Rose Valley area.

  19. Thanks, I'll pass that along. As a side note, your personal info will not be distributed to anyone and is used solely for the website itself.
  20. Hi guys, I've designed a website, currently for Canadian Practitioners only but the intent is to expand. The purpose of the website is to place people seeking work in touch with people seeking employees. What makes this site different is that is also accounts for casual positions, so, if you're a practitioner at any level, currently employed or not, looking for additional side income or full time work, post your info on the site. This is a free service for practitioners and employers alike. This site is new and in beta test phase, if you have any suggestions or find any bugs, please report them. www.paramediconnect.com
  21. That's incredible.
  22. Hey bud, doing better. I'm just making light of this story because we've done the same here...although we're not quite active yet because I want my group to get some additional training. It's been a roller coaster couple of weeks. For those that aren't aware of everything.... Oct 11 - I was presented with the QE II Diamond Jubilee Medal by the Governor General of Canada for "Having made a significant contribution to a particular province, territory, region or community within Canada, or an achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada". http://paramedic-net...ews.com/?p=2456 Check out 36:15 on this video: mms://mediasvr.legassembly.sk.ca/archive/20121011Video.wmv Oct 15 - I was invited by the provincial Minister for Rural and Remote Health to submit a proposal I had been working on for a pilot evaluation to reduce workload for doctors and create regionally based critical transport teams rather than centrally located ones. Oct. 17 - I was invited to make a presentation to a mining consortium for the provision of medical services. Oct 18 - my dad was diagnosed with early onset mixed dementia. 0300 hrs Oct 21- I'm out on a call transporting a drug overdose (up to 100 grams acetominophen) and get called that my dad passed away unexpectedly. Sunday Night I had to take my wife's grandmother in for treatment of Kidney Failure. Here are her labs: Potassium was 8.2 mmol/L Chloride - 113 Urea - 29.6 Creatinine -289 eGFR - 13 ml/min Hemoglobin - 96 g/l So, here I was trying to decide if I should tell my wife that Grandma isn't doing so hot either, fortunately I kept my mouth shut. Monday my 2 year old daughter falls and sprains her elbow...a week later she's still in pain. Got out of the clinic just in time to Meet with the funeral director, then I get called for an ALS intercept just after the meeting. Finally, I have to take my younger son back to his mom's house, 6 hour round trip drive. Fortunately, my older son volunteered to take him because I had been going for almost 60 hours and 6 hours sleep. Tuesday I worked on Dad's eulogy Wednesday was municipal election day....guess who was running for Mayor and won. Thursday my wife's Gmother was discharged from hospital....still quite weak, but improved. Docs in the big city took her off many of the meds she was on...such as Slow K. Friday was the funeral. Saturday was my oldest son's final ever high school football game and for the first time ever he had all of his uncles, aunts, and grandparents there to cheer him on. After winning every game of the season they lost in the quarter final championship game 31-26. He was hoping to score a TD for grandpa, but didn't. Sunday morning I woke and realised that after all the family and friends left things returned to normal except I have no dad. Today I have a business meeting to hammer out details on a new venture. Roller Coaster for sure. I mean really, we're in the family reception line following my father's service and people are congratulating me. How messed up is that?
  23. I liked making Duane's life difficult back in the day. I'd have stuck to my guns and said I'd administer nitro IV. There's no reason we can't if it's available...if he wants a response requiring you make the absolute choice whether or not to remove the mask....make him ask a question that forces you to make the choice. Then again, I pissed him off so badly that he ended up trying to kick me out of the program on a trumped up charge anyways so it might not be so wise to become a thorn in his side. Edit: Sequel...consider what you're saying regarding the drop in BP and the mechanism of action. Perhaps that reduced BP was the result of a physiological response by the body because it was returning to homeonormal status.
  24. Dwayne must be in transit by now huh?
