  1. Well, I wouldn't have to muddle through a GCS calculation again. Otherwise, no, I can't see how it could be used in the prehospital setting either.
  2. I think that every ambulance should have one of these... http://www.cliawaived.com/cf.inventory.htm?action=showinvone&invid=1942 Then again, I also think that every ambulance should have one of these too... http://www.jbodenmann.com/american/cowcatcher.jpg Any N/V, when was his last BM and what did it look like? I'm leaning toward GI Bleed in case you haven't noticed.
  3. lol, the guy on the radio should have asked: "So you think that deer just walk down the highway until they see a deer crossing sign before the cross the road?.......Here's your sign."
  4. Ok, seriously, what is his hemoglobin reading? How old is he? Until your last post I was starting to lean toward early onset Alzheimers which would include some memory loss and lethargy...basically a lack of initiative to do anything which could be confused with depression. Especially if it's a mixed dementia. Given his cardiovascular history it is a possibility that he had vascular dementia as well. A few well placed questions and interrogation would help to identify this. Asking him to identify things such as his friends or items in the house would help. Also, asking him to remember three things, then recall those three things later on would help to assess his memory. Now, following your last post I am interested to see if there is any anemia occurring.
  5. Pericarditis!!!
  6. http://www.ctvnews.ca/health/consciousness-scanner-giving-hope-to-brain-trauma-patients-1.995767 A consciousness scanner developed in Canada is giving hope to brain trauma patients who are trapped in their own bodies. The team behind the Halifax Consciousness Scanner is hoping to test the device on more brain trauma patients and eventually have units in ambulances and emergency rooms to gain accurate brain status readings of unconscious and semi-conscious patients.
  7. Bravo
  8. Our health region has decided upon the Bone Injection Gun...unfortunately. All it means is that now I have to pay to actually get quality equipment instead of getting it for free from the region.
  9. Snicker, don't get yer panties in a bunch yet....this is something that likely won't occur for a few years yet.
  10. Thanks Bro I appreciate the input...perhaps tying the medic's rotation to the same as the mine would be the best option. I'll have to determine what that sort of rotation would look like. All I know is that my brother works for Syncrude in the Oil Sands and is 7 on 7 off, so I was working with that. Then again, the medics I was looking to hire would only have a few hours of travel time...not days.
  11. 4 - 6 weeks is a little long...I was leaning toward the 7 day in 7 out scenario. Average pay for something like this seems to be in the 600 - 750/day area. Onsite housing and a company vehicle...just gotta decide if the housing will be an atco trailer or something a little nicer. Modular home perhaps. I also need to get a clear definition of what the mines will want from their medical staff. Drug Tests? Immunizations? medical emergencies? Basically, will there be a clinic or just on call for medical emergencies with rapid transport available if needed. Lots of questions will be asked at the meeting, I just want to be prepared to direct the conversation appropriately with my answers to them and their answers to me.
  12. Have you checked Youtube? The Tibia is my preferred site. https://www.google.ca/search?q=youtube+intraosseous&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a
  13. Damn straight...satellite TV too with all the porn channels.
  14. Maybe someone needs to educate this reporter to the significance between amps(joules) and volts. For perspective, an external defibrillator delivers about 1000 volts of electricity but only about 300mA. An implanted Defibrillator delivers about 750 volts.
  15. It wasn't meant as a joke.
  16. Unfortunately our college won't allow an increase in scope like this, Fortunately they are looking at an overall scope review to match the NOCPs closer. I'll give Wilf a call.
  17. My experience doesn't involve Ontario, but in Sask if the program isn't accredited by the CMA you would be required to apply for a PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment Recognition) from an accredited school before you can be registered in the Province. The CMA website has a list of accredited programs here: http://www.cma.ca/in...la_id=1#PARA-ON Edit: Oh, and welcome to the forums. Hope you stick around and participate after you get the answer to your question here.
  18. I should mention as well that the mines are remote and the shift would be something along the lines of 7 on 24 hour call 7 off in the middle of nowhere. Bright side is that the high end of my proposal includes a Helicopter.
  19. Hey Gang; I've been offered an opportunity to make a presentation to a mining consortium for the provision of medical personnel to the mines in the area. Problem is, this is unexplored territory for me. Last time I did anything like this was as an employee, 25 years ago. For those of you who are involved in the industrial medical aspect, how do things work for you? Who provides housing, the mine? Your company? How about transportation? Any special benefits? Perks? I expect that my proposal is going to involve a basic service at a base price with customization options available, each at an extra cost. Any advice from someone with experience in this would be a great help.
  20. Whoops, busted.
  21. Dwayne, she's not nakkie. She's wearing a strapless top....look at her profile pic. Poor Poor man. Please excuse Dwayne Chickfiremedic. He's been stranded way out in the middle of nowhere...with lots and lots of people to keep him company. Unfortunately, none of them are his wife and it's beginning to take its toll on him.
  22. Dwayne...seriously...you gotta get outta the bush.
