Hmm, let me see.... Mallard that just took off into the windshield,. Cracked the glass. Seagull into and through the windshield. Deer strike on the driver side front, took out the headlights, grille and damaged the bumper. Deer strike square in the middle of the front end. Took out everything but one headlight and signal light. Funny story. We'd had a tire tread separation at high speed that destroyed the d/s fender. Ambulance was in the body shop with the Thanksgiving long weekend coming up. Body shop wasn't quite finished, just had to add a flasher and the decals but we needed the ambulance for the weekend. Came back carrying the grille and told him to relax..the body work that he had just finished was untouched. Barn Owl took out my radio antenna and pax mirror, Crow square into the siren on the front of the Ambulance. Pulled into the parking bay at the hospital and the thing was still stuck squarely on the grille. Drove over a fox that bounced off the pavement and hit the floor in the back...my partner swears it hit right under her feet. About a billion insects. At least this hasn't happened to us......yet. http://www.canada.com/news/RCMP+officer+dies+when+cruiser+collides+with+moose+Saskatchewan+highway/6965262/story.html Derek was a great man.

Oh, thought Fabio was riding again.

WTF!!!! 6 seated people and one patient? I have GOT to hear more details on this call. My biggest ambulance can seat 5 people in the back but there is no way in hell you could provide competent patient care. You'd be stumbling all over one another. I ran a code last week with three in the back and was thinking it was just right. A hair crowded, but not excessive. Given that one crew member was driving, the other 4 would have been in the back. Hopefully the wife was riding up front and not in the back too. I wonder how unstable this stroke patient was. Was there really a need for L&S? If they were inside the Fibro window then they didn't need L&S, if they were outside they didn't need L&S, if they were borderline they likely didn't need L&S either because in my experience the Neuro at the receiving hospital won't do anything anyways because it's too close to the deadline. Too many questions, not enough answers in this article. Off to do some research. Okay, not much out there, but the ambulance is a 4 door Type I, so I guess there are more seats available in the cab. Seems the driver blew through the light at 50+ MPH. http://www.abc4.com/...CstrgIiGwg.cspx

Interesting...so eliminate the diesel fuel altogether or use the propane as an additive? I might consider something like that on my resto-mod.

It used to be fun, but Phil just kinda walked away from it.

Just back from watching my beloved football team, (soccer for you Europeans I think) blow an 18 point lead in the last 5 minutes of the game; I'm reading this and think I might be misunderstood. As Kiwi states, judicious use of O2 would be indicated in the COPD patient. Ideally maintaining the sats in the low 90s where the non COPD patient you'd be trying to get 100%. My comment regarding the Hypoxic drive was simply in response to the concept of withholding O2 entirely for the COPD patient.
-
In the case of COPD patients, keeping the SPO2 in the high 80s to low 90s would be the preference because that's their normal saturation levels. Secondly, withholding Oxygen for fear of disrupting the hypoxic drive is beyond naive. It's just plain stupid. We never have a COPD patient in our care long enough to disrupt the hypoxic drive. I'm surprised that there are still medical professionals who think like this.

With the vast amount of EMS patches for sale on eBay, I would think it unlikely that a potential impersonator would go to all the trouble of working out a patch collection scheme when he can just drop 5 bucks online and have them delivered no questions asked.

It might be. Do you require registration with a government body or association to be employable? -

Really? Almost 200 people have looked at this and none of you know who you are registered with to be qualified to work in your area? -
I come here because I'm permabanned from emtlife and emsvillage is a ghost town.

Shrug. Not that anyone would value my input, but I think there should be a Mosque put square in the new WTC buildings. Governments at all levels keep saying that this isn't a crusade, it's not a war against islam but a war against terror. Prove it. You can't have forgiveness without tolerance.

They finally caught up with you Kiwi. num num, Jail Valiums.

Umm, you're welcome anytime Dwayne. It's for a much better cause than the money I waste on Greenpeace every year. I just thought it might bring silly grin to Dylan's face to see his first donation top his goal. One of my staff has an autistic daughter so I have an idea of what you guys have to deal with. Anyone want my tax receipt? I can't use it in Canada.

So, I've been watching a local storm chaser do his thing around the province and I thought to myself, "What this guy needs is Emergency Vehicle status." Seeing as how he's speeding all over these storms and blowing through stop signs to get in front of the storm cells and tornadoes I figure his life would be much easier if the casual driver on the road could actually identify him and maybe even yield the ROW to him. Remember, we don't have elaborate early warning or siren systems for tornados for our communities...these newly developed chasers are the best option we currently have. What I'm wondering from my friends in Tornado Alley, do your storm chasers down there have emergency vehicle status which would permit them to use lights and sirens when they're chasing a storm. I know, it smacks of whackerism, but I think it would be safer to regulate these guys and give them lights so that the casual driver has at least some sort of warning that they're coming. Right now there is nothing and every whack job in the country with a mobile internet connection is jumping onto the bandwagon with a live stream video of their storm chasing. My feeling is that they need to be regulated.

What's in the toilet bowl?

Umm, my credit card company fraud prevention dept just called. Likely just to confirm that I posted a transaction in the U.S. I have no reason to doubt CelticCare, but it would be nice if Dwayne could verify this before I call them back and confirm the transaction.

After a heart rending plea like that, how could I not?

I did my first ambulance call when I was 11 years old. Back then we only required a driver but my dad didn't like going alone with no one to watch the patient. Usually my mother or older brothers went with, but in this case no one else was available and I got to bring home a post surgical hip fracture.

Hi Group I'm building a website that I am hoping to include a link to all of the registration bodies for as many jurisdictions as possible. Provincial, State, and abroad. Essentially, if you need to be registered to work EMS in your State or Province I would like a link to that registering body. For Example Alberta - http://www.collegeofparamedics.org/ Saskatchewan - http://www.collegeofparamedics.sk.ca/ Could you guys please post a link to your registration body and others you might be familiar with?

Looks like a set of cookbook protocols to me.

See? Just goes to show what I know about the country.
