  1. In Case any of you are interested.....med.html
  2. I knew you'd land on your feet.
  3. Meh, I wasn't sure, but I figured either he'd take the joke or appreciate the assistance. In truth, I know nothing of the Middle East.....Afghanistan is in the middle east...right?
  4. Sob...nothing for me? I'm sure Rob is smiling down upon you with pride, just as he'll laugh his ass off when yours gets handed to you as is inevitable for us all. Congrats man.
  5. I heard it was a dump. The owner of the company is an ass that'll run you into the ground. Use you up and spit you out when he's done with you. And for god sakes, don't get sick or hurt while you're on the job, it'll be a 1 way ticket home. AKflightmedic, anything to add?
  6. Is pushing narcotics a basic skill where you're from DFIB?
  7. In Canada an 18 year old Paramedic is also unheard of. A prerequisite for Advanced Paramedic training is the Primary Paramedic course which could range anywhere from 6 months to 2 years depending on the province. One must be 18 before being considered for acceptance. Following the PCP training the candidate must apply for the ACP training. There used to be a requirement for 2 years of field work before an application would be considered, but that has since been waived because the waiting list was so long that it took two years to get accepted into a class anyways. Regardless, the ACP training is anywhere from one to two years. Essentially, before an ACP candidate can even work on the streets he has at least 2 years of school under his belt and typically more.
  8. Sounds like the Seven Year Itch. I just had an employee start back in November, she told me she was having doubts about her career path and would probably only stick this career out for another couple of months. 6 weeks later she sat down to tell me that she has applied to paramedic school. Turns out she though her career would be the same no matter where she works. After a few weeks with my company she realised that it wasn't the EMS career she wasn't enjoying....it was her experience with her past employer.
  9. Ummm, and live within a 100 miles of Snookie? Not a chance in hell. Thing is telling someone to just pull up and "move" is not a practical approach. How much do you think your job would be worth if 500 paramedics applied for every opening in your company. It would devalue pretty quickly because management would just pick another medic from the pool if you don't like what you're getting paid. Additionally, this is AZs home. Some of us put a lot of value into where we live and we think of others before ourselves. We love our homes and where we live, but just want to improve the situation here rather than abandon it. That's why AZ started this thread. Telling him to move solves nothing, provide him with ideas on how to improve his situation instead. AZ, public perception needs to change. They need to identify what it is a paramedic and an EMT do. They need to know what sort of toll it takes on them. Kiwi has a great point. We just got self regulation in Sask and that has improved and increased the public awareness significantly...unfortunately in a way that might not be all that beneficial, but it'll change. My suggestion....Public Service Advertising. Consider what the Tema Conter Society has done, not just for itself, but for EMS in general. Their PSAs are very well done and provide very hard hitting examples of what life is like as an EMS professional. Here's an example. http://youtu.be/fNzck0O28SI Once you have the support of the public you will begin to see a paradigm shift away from the current opinion of EMS to one that you and your counterparts can shape yourselves. Instead of letting the public think they know what you are...get out there and show them. Once they are on your side you have the power to lobby governments for change. It won't be easy, and it certainly won't be cheap. You'll have people fighting you every step of the way, even people you work with, but in the end, once the growing pains and bad weeds have been uprooted; you'll begin to see some changes. Just remember, you won't be changing things for yourself, you'll be changing things for those who come after you. Like Kiwi said, it's been 40+ years for them. Did you ever notice how many FDNY Paramedic/Firefighters are mentioned in all the statistics for the WTC attacks? The paramedics are lumped into the fire fighter count because they just don't know which were there with the ambulances and which were there on the fire trucks.
  10. How does your kit work? Mine needs a urine sample, from the looks of thinks here I doubt you would have gotten one of those.
  11. Wow, that's a hell of a call. I've been with a couple of PE flashovers like that, hate 'em. No indication of drug abuse? Did the CO2 and the SPO2 on the second monitor match the first one?
  12. I've wanted to pipe the tank into my air intake on my ambulance.....but I suspect the Diesel would explode spectacularly.
  13. I have a webpage written up with 10 medication questions for our CME. I think it was 10, maybe 20? I'll try to track it down.
  14. http://articles.mcall.com/2012-07-19/news/mc-c-emts-intervene-in-rape-at-marriott-hotel-20120719_1_emts-bethlehem-township-police-marriott-courtyard-hotel Couldn't post a link Dwayne?
  15. Unlikely, they don't kill crazy people.
  16. Haunting..... http://news.sympatico.ctvnews.ca/home/colorado_shooting_victim_survived_toronto_eaton_centre_shooting/5ea17146
  17. For some reason Kate's link takes me to a story on that injection that can replace blood.
  18. The suspect in the mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater early today has been identified as James Holmes of Aurora, two federal law enforcement sources said. He is 24 years old. Authorities have revised the shooting death toll downward from 14 to 12. Also, the number of injured has been lowered from 50 to at least 38. President Obama will address the nation about the shooting at 11:20 a.m. ET. Watch live coverage now on http://CNN.com/Live
  19. No Gag reflex during the seizure? How did you check this?
  20. The guy in the white shirt.
  21. I am interested in some of the conclusions that this is gang warfare spilled over from immigrants holding a grudge. Not unlike the early 1900s when Irish Catholics and Protestants were at one another in New York. Even though New York had nothing to do with the British occupation of Ireland. How much violence is perpetuated by those who claim they left the violence in their country for the safety of Canada.
  22. Stupid people shouldn't breed, and they shouldn't have care of other people's children.
  23. I hope someone kicks her in the other leg. Edit: And that judge in the head.
  24. I didn't notice, since it was more than 5 words into the report. I didn't read that far. Okay okay, I didn't notice the link. He wasn't IFR anymore though because he was cleared for a visual approach, which means he'd cancelled IFR and therefore the controller was no longer monitoring the flight..
  25. I'm trying to find out if the plane was IFR or VFR. ATC might be considered negligent if the pilot descended through an assigned altitude and wasn't issued an instruction to return to the pre-assigned altitude.
