  1. Disagreements between co-workers in two different chains of command are best resolved through your manager. My Thoughts: Treat the patient, not the machine, did they do any other sort of assesments? Lung sounds, Sp02? 188/78 isn't hypertensive? WTF? If the nurse upstairs used ears instead of a machine to get the BP, I would have at least done the courtesy of following up my machine with the same, just to check. And this brings us around to the old debate of ears vs. machine...sorry.
  2. Has anyone tried geocaching? I just got into it over Christmas.
  3. Shrug, my mother worked her entire 30+ year career never to sit behind the wheel. I can see no reason you couldn't either. I don't understand why you'd want to take such a step down though.
  4. I am, this is what replaced our factory radios. http://support.jvc.c...elId=MODL028308 The philosophy is thus. Improving the work environment for the paramedic improves attitude, this will improve safety and patient care. When the paramedic is happy he won't complain so much when he is required to wear a stab vest or participate public education seminars, or what ever other dirty job or condition you might not prefer to work with. When they're on an 8 hour transfer in the middle of no where, it makes the trip a bit more tolerable when they can listen to a satellite radio or connect an ipod to the stereo system. Edit: Additionally, there is an AM/FM radio, DVD player and integrated video game console in the back. Before I get blasted for all these "toys", just try to remember, our patients tend to be in the back of the ambulance for over 2 hours with nothing to distract them and most often they are stable. Pediatrics especially love being able to play some video games and watch a movie. Besides, I'm at level 28 on my video game of choice.
  5. Use of FLIR for safety enhancements Addition of tire pressure monitoring systems IVDDs to detect increased Cardiac Trops Upgraded audio systems to allow the crew to personalise their music choices.
  6. Thanks guys, all good information to know. At a cost of something like 70 bucks a pop, (pun intended) I'm rather disappointed that we're wasting money on them now.
  7. I just attended a Train the Trainer session for the Bone injection gun by Waismed. I'm more familiar with EZ-IO and the FAST ONE. The B.I.G. doesn't seem to me that it's all that adjustable. Essentially, it's spring loaded and just pounds through the bone into the marrow, yet there is no way to continue pushing the needle through if the spring doesn't get it all the way to the marrow.
  8. I'm sure glad I can tell people like that what they should really do.
  9. I just bought Rosetta Stone. Haven't seen one, but then, I've never looked. Here's one that's not free. http://flypfc.com/?/products/throttle-quadrants/three-engine-jet-spoilers-throttles-reversers/
  10. Huh? http://www.nyc.gov/h...q.shtml#emt_req You mean I can't believe everything I read on the interweb?
  11. Indeed. I have the Saitek Pro Flight yoke, throttle quad, switch panel, and rudders. Someday I might invest in more but I'm trying to save up for a real plane of my own. I have my own thoughts regarding hockey, and they aren't all that flattering. I was in Cuba during that race, all ESPN would show was the crash over and over, they didn't even tell us who the hell won.
  12. It's an old saying around here. "What do you call a person who finishes last in his medical school class?" Doctor. Have you downloaded FLIGHT yet? It sux. I'm going to buy X-Plane to see what it's like. These days most of my flying isn't simulated. Who's your NASCAR driver? My wife and kids each have a flag for their favorite, whoever has the driver with the highest finish gets their flag up until the next race.
  13. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/story/2012/03/05/sk-government-appealing-labour-ruling-1203.html The Saskatchewan government says it will appeal a court decision that struck down its essential services legislation as unconstitutional. The law places limits on the number of public service employees who can go on strike during a labour dispute. A recent Queen's Bench decision said the law fails in part because the province didn't properly consult labour groups. The judge said the law will remain in effect for now, giving the government a year to fix it.
  14. Perhaps becoming an EMT is what makes her happy, who am I to know, but I think she does.
  15. David, are you affiliated with the Tema Conter Memorial Trust? http://www.tema.ca
  16. The Govt is appealing the ruling and the law remains in effect until the Govt. proposes a new one. Nothing is gonna change.
  17. Chuckle, yeah, but I use an Automatic Transport Ventilator when we do CPR which is class IIb, and to use one the patient must be intubated.
  18. It's been done and continues to evolve, all you need are progressive people to lead the fight.
  19. Three Words: Mobile Health Services. Expand the role of EMS to MHS that enables the paramedic to provide treatments in the home and reduce needless trips to te ER.
  20. Shrug, I got booted and permabanned from EMTlife.com because I told the Mods what I really think of them, then told the boss there he might as well ban me too, (so he did), and no matter how hard I try, the Village is pretty much a ghost town with the occasional tumbleweed rolling through, so I figured it was time to grace the big city with my presence once more.
  21. Ahhh, but there is evidence that endotracheal intubation is beneficial.(Class IIb) according to AHA.
  22. Depends on the school too, some require some sort of degree in Education.
  23. He wants to work in NYC, 'nuf said.
  24. Kiwi, you gotta make it easier for him. http://www.nyc.gov/html/fdny//html/community/emt_medic_faq.shtml#emt_req
  25. awwww, okay AK. I like my story better though.
