Ok did we get a blood sugar? Can we have another set of vitals assuming its been about 15 min. Looking into hernias the best fit so far is a diaphragmatic in which case this dude may need a surgeon. Also a pyogenic liver abscess could fit. Also requiring a stay in the white house. As far as a major campaign to get this guy to a doctor or visa versa. What options do we have anythig less then a major campaign available? I think this person needs to be moved out of there and to a location where he can be observed and monitored. Lets get a IV open to have access if needed. He appears to be stable at the time but unless blood work can be gathered and processed in a timely manner I think I would arrange transport to a place where meds are available as well as imaging equipment. In this senario what tools do we have at our disposal med, IV, monitoring equipment and so on. It also comes to mind that he has been dealing with this problem for 3 months and now its bad enough to call for assistance it may not be emergent but its not trivial. Also anybody in a camp like this I would assume have a physical on file any chance on getting that.
ok in way to deep but I'll play at basic level I would make a good survey of the room and contents
anything note worthy? put him on O2 and get him moving toward difinative care. But just to stay in the game I would like ask if any research into his brothers condition can be done by e-mail. Also question on diet or weight change looking for a reason for a gall bladder problem. Liver enzymes might be interesting. Like I said we left my level of care behind several miles ago but i'm leaning toward the hernia. Oh yeah any chance he got local water he might have drank a critter
Wish granted everyone appreciates the the real beauty in the world and lives a happy, productive life. Neh screw that log it, burn it , pave it and paint it green.
I wish the strike team leader class was over
sorry no but it should be. Also I wish women didnt put the toilet seat down all the time and I wish women were more like dogs I mean a dog is happy to see you when you come home smelling like another dog whats the problem with women?
People will send me emails of gruesome deaths all the time and some of the senders are emt's. I really don't see the infatuation, most are not training quality and after seeing the different faces of death its not a recreational attraction to me. but they seem to think 'he's a EMT so he will think this cool'. Wrong
I have been on some pretty hectic scenes and all the noise and confusion I could see myself in these guys shoes so instead of rehashing the situation again I'm going to try to learn from it and make sure that a deceased person is truly so. I would like to see more info on the situation such as triage method and actions of the first responder not to find fault but to learn from there misfortune. We are supposed to be moving into a new (to us) triage system, Sacco I think and I am curious how that would play out in this situation.
The 3 minute video is on youtube as well as a link to the paramedic's statement. Between those two pieces of information The law enforcement officers were totally at fault and disciplinary action should follow. There may be refuting evidence out there but it is not available yet.
I have helped with several EMT-basic courses and I can tell you the goal of the lead instructor's is to make good emt's not good test takers I can understand the consternation with not being given feedback on problems you had on your test(s). I think the goal is to make sure that you know that you know the information. In the field you have to preform the whole package of skills not just the ones you crammed on the most and you pass the course based upon the minimum score.
I don't know if that makes sense. I do acknowledge that I have no experience with Paramedic courses and there could be a different argument based on that.
Oh yeah I love being a volunteer for many reasons but the newest is it annoys the crap out of some people on here.
Sprinklers can have a head of air and be activated and then purged of air by the incoming water or they can be filled with a antifreeze. sprinklers will only go off where the fire is contrary to popular movies. So the damage would be less then the alternative fire. a monitoring system is good but if it is not for you install water bugs. They are a device that puts out a audio alarm if even a 1/8 inch of water builds up on the floor. There are other monitoring systems that could be set up into a modem so that you are alerted by phone of any problem that occurs. All it takes is money
I don't know as much as most of these yucks but I would recommend documenting every thing you can because your account implies to me that the nurse pooched it and is trying to slip the blame on you. as far as the iodine I'm not positive but will check that there is a required drying time before needle insertion when iodine is used to clean a site.
