Heres a better question, and a reason to not take the dog...How do i secure it? I dont carry dog seatbelts, and NJDOHSS states that any ambulance inspected and certified by said agency must be crash worthy and have all objects secure. If the ambulance is involved in an MVC, now this 110lb german shepherd is a 110lb projectile flying at my dome. If both my patient and i have to be properly restrained in transit, the dog should too, and i dont have the ablity to do that.

A couple of you guys mentioned taking people who called 911 back to their house. Is this something that you guys do regularly? In my services the ambulance has 3 possible destinations and they are never another residence. We have drunks who call its in the winter and want rides to the soup kitchen, but we won't take them

Funny this should come up, A few days back I transported a female with a sports relayed knee injury, just a dislocation, once I got done exposing and splinting the knee, transporting and all, we just chatted on the way to the hospital, about 20 minutes. Once I turned her over to the hospital, she hands me her number and says I should call her...would it unethical to pursue this girl

Or if you think NYPD gets paid well, look south into jersey. PANYNJ Cops get paid insane money for what they do, and some of those surrounding suburbs put top patrolmans pay above 100k, offiers and chiefs can top over 250k

Look into Captial Health, the run ALS in Tenton and surrounding areas of Mercer county, pretty good system for NJ. Other options are AtlantiCare in Atlantic City, a straight shot out the ACX, or one of the other Hospitals in South Jersey like Underwood Memorial in the Deptford area

the squad is providing all the supplies for the bag, and said they might pay for the bag itself depending on the cost and budget blah blah blah. The club said to get prices and get back to them I hate to go to galls, but they are a decent starting point, google came up with so much randomness it was crazy.

So i got a job at a night club as a bouncer, but also as a first responder type person. They hired me to have someone one staff who knows a thing or two about prehospital medicine. At the same time, ive been looking to get a bag to carry in my car. Our response area is large and we only have one squad to cover it, so if we are closer to the scene we are encouraged to answer directly to the scene. Ive been using my old school backpack, which sucks cause eveything gets messed up. Ive been looking for a small bag to keep the basic BLS stuff in it and remain organized. Ive hit galls, but their stuff is way to big for my needs. Ive seen other guys with these little blue bags, but they all got them 10 years ago and that place is OOS. Anyone know of a good BLS bag for a first responder situation?

It seems the issue lies with EMT-B just not having the training to handle a medical emergency. So should we just get rid of the EMT-B cert all together? Do you think they just dont have a role in the prehospital stage of care anymore? What about specific rescue based squad, should they all be paramedics? These are serious questions, not me trying to be sarcastic or anything. And i think most people are realizing the insanity of the FAC and with the EMS task force its a step in the right direction. Right now there just isnt an incentive in NJ to be a paramedic for any period of time. Unless your attached to a Swat or ERT team or a Water/Extrication Rescue Truck and even then its still a "hobby" or a 2nd job even if it is paid. Would it be worth bring back the EMT-I or just eliminate everything below P and have the whole country be P only?

Sorry i clearly intruded on something that i cant possibly wrap my mind around. I didnt realize that this place was for "serious" EMS personell only or that only Medics were allowed. I know enough about NJ to know there is a shortage of medics in the state, and that they have a hard enough time retaining them before they move on to RN or PA jobs as it stands right now. I also know that despite having some of the highest taxes in the country, we are still going to have budget shortfall again and the government may actually SHUT DOWN because we literally do not have the money to operate. There is no money to pay to staff full time ALS service in NJ. Taxes are going up this year again both in the state and municipal governments and that's just to cover the cost of doing business without any sort of budget increase from last year. I know about the financial situation we are in here. We have six ALS unit to cover 53 towns in just ONE county of 665 sq Miles and its a similar situation in the other 20 which can be even larger. We have the highest taxes, so we should raise them more? Whats wrong with volunteer service? With proper training why cant they be effective and usefull? Not every call is an ALS call, in fact id say most arent. You seems to have worlds of experiance, howe many calls really need all those drugs and interventions? Most squads are looking at 5-10 minute transport times to the closest hosptial, maybe a little longer for serious trauma, ALS care in unnessecary when your call time is 20 minutes from dispatch to OOS. I dont understand this vehemence towards volunteer First Aid Squads. I also dont understand how a.) I am "unprofessional" or have a "Lack of Knowledge" or might "get hurt" and B.) how you could be able to tell based on an anonymous online post.

Sorry that volunteer isnt good enough. We should just let the medics answer every call and get rid of volunteer service all together because they cleary screw up all the time. Medics are perfect and we know they dont want to waste time dealing with us, so lets just go to a full time paramedic service everywhere. Oh, where are you going to get the money to pay those medics? I dont know what the volunteer squads are like by you, but in NJ, specifically the shore area we have great squads who provide a multitude of functions outside of O2 and go skills. Id argue that one of the best water rescue teams in the east is a volunteer unit that operates in the north part of the jersey shore. Theyve been down my way a few times and they are impressive and professional.

Her description of the way EMTs treated the bystanders is interesting. How do you guys deal with looky-loos? as far as i am concerned, they are in the way and preventing me from doing my job. We all know that a few seconds here or there can change a patients outcome, so i really dont care if i hurt your feelings when i yelled at you to move. figure you have to get to the patient, asses, make a transport descision on packageing, go back and get your mode of extraction, go back and package, then go to the rig, thats 4 times your having to push past these ghouls and not many people in my area have time for them when a patients having a diabetic seizure.

We had a MVA, two sets of kids racing down a higway in NJ, light turned red, one car made it through, the other wasnt so lucky. 5 kids in that car, two in front and three in the back. We got there and the two kids on the outside in the rear seat were dead, as was the front passenger. The impact with the back of the seats and dashboard at 65 mph liqufied their bodies. We dragged the two in the back out and laid them under a sheet on the side of the road while we extracated the two with vitals. Bystanders went crazy because we didnt work on the two kids in the back. In order to get the front passenger out, we flipped his feet onto his shoulders because his bones didnt exist. Got a lawsuit out of that because a bystander was "traumatized" by our lack of care for the two DOA's. Perception and lack of training can lead to assumptions that end poorly all around. The two that were alive when we got thater were saved, the driver is in jail right now.
