Exactly correct ghettomedic it seems we have got off track again.

When giving readio reports stick to what that receiving facility wants or what your areas policies/proceedures/protocols are. If they want a very detailed report give it to them, if they want a 30 sec or less do it in 30 seconds. Radio reports usually don't matter much anyway. Your treatment and care of the pt is what matters.
-
Front always, in the back depends on treatment in progress. Probably wear it 25% of the time on Emergency calls, 80% of the time on transfers.
-
Have your company by Ammonia Ampules. Pop one under the nose and if they are faking you will no it quickly. Also depending on how much ETOH the pt ingested he could have "Passed out" from intoxication and resp. drive depressed enough to have caused his unconsciousness. Your treatment stimulated all his right receptors and Bam! He's awake.

Got the male pattern baldness thing. So instead of trying to hide it w/ comb over and look like otis on Andy Griffith I just buzz it down w/ a #1 guard or no guard. Easier in the morning but it means more face to wash.

Difficulties with Paramedics as EMT's

I obviously am not educated enough or eloquent enough to get my point across and change any ones mindset so I'll let it be and go back to my family and stop posting. -
Difficulties with Paramedics as EMT's
Beagle189 replied to PRPGfirerescuetech's topic in General EMS Discussion
The part timers I refer to are not thrill seekers. These EMTs as I stated preferred to make a living wage in other professions but still enjoy EMS. They continue w/ their education - receiving Bachelors and Masters in other fields than health care. Not all have gone on to college degrees some went to technical schools. I preferred to stay in EMS. These few EMTs are good. Period. They don't have the desire to become a medic and that's fine. If you think this isn't valid in this discussion I must disagree by what I've read in this thread. I have advanced myself, these others have advanced but not in the same line as I have. They do excellent EMT skills and assessment then leave the rest for me. -
Difficulties with Paramedics as EMT's
Beagle189 replied to PRPGfirerescuetech's topic in General EMS Discussion
I am a Paramedic. I work in an ALS service that runs 1 Paramedic / 1 EMT per ambulance. I have been in EMS since 1984, a Paramedic since 1988. I have worked w/ countless EMTs since. Some good and some bad, and work w/ a lot of Part - Time EMT's. They are Part-time because they have full-time jobs doing something else other than healthcare. These part-timers are some of the best EMT's around. WHy? Because they learned their stuff and continue to learn and improve. Does this make them a bad healthcare provider because they are not medics? NO. They work at occupations that pay more to provide for their families. They don't care to spend 2 more years of constant education to become ALS. They are happy were they are at and they do a good job. There is nothing wrong w/ staying an EMT if that is what you are good at. On a side note - not all of my part-timers are good EMTs, Several I have had to threaten to kill and feed to the pigs. -
Actually I don't dream about runing calls naked, I 'm just a dirty old man.
-
I still pose the question - Anybody ever dream about running a call naked. (Maybe this is a sign of a serious nymphomania problem?)

My service carries Nubain. We carry it as a pain control med for pt's that are allergic to Morphine. MS being the preferred Pain control med by our Medicl Control Doc's. One thing I want to pass on about Nubain - Its a narcotic agonist. If your pt is using Narctics for any reason and Nubain is given - be prepared for a possible withdrawal type reaction.

Commercial showing EMS as thieves
Beagle189 replied to Just Plain Ruff's topic in General EMS Discussion
I'm not really offended by this ad. But....... Unfortunately I live in an area that has more than it's share of humans with small intelligence. I have found out that these people believe what the see on TV and in print or read on the NET. How else do mags like the Midnight Globe, National Enquirer etc... make so much money w/ stories like a 2 headed alien talks to the President. And guess what... these same people get elected to small town councils and county political seats. All it takes is one bad EMS apple to spoil it for all EMS in an area. These "Believers" never forget and they associate one instance on everyone. (Anyone remember segregation in the South?). Now picture any problems that you had 10 years ago and this commercial airs. Hope you can get the picture of what I'm saying. Anyway, I think it can and will affect some Prehospital Providers in a negative way. -
Anybody ever dream about running a call Naked?

We have 2 hospitals in my county. The one in the city that we serve takes approx 70% of all county pts. They go on divert regularly. The 2nd hospital is approx 6 miles away. If we have a pt that is critical and the primary is on divert we can take them to the primary until they are stabilized(then transfer the pt out). Sometimes the primary staff doesn't see it that way but when the pt is reported on the radio that they are critical/unstable airway/ unstable heart they can't really refuse. But if pt is not critical we go to the next city. Now when that hospital goes on divert( usually w/in one hour of our primary going to divert) then each hospital only takes pts from their primary area/city. Gotta tellya sometimes they dn't inform us until after our radio reports and its a booger. Affect Pt care - I try and not let it.

AZCEP has the best answer, On ALL points. Just my opinion.

Do EMTs have the right to correct a paramedic?
Beagle189 replied to itku2er's topic in General EMS Discussion
Yes EMT's have the right to correct Paramedics - for the reasons stated above. -
Another joy of being a paramedic

Sorry to hear your ill, man. Get to feeling better ,ya hear. (Kind of sounds like you may have been "Kissing" close to that HOT 19 y.o." -
Haven't heard of that. But you're right it does make sense. Now I gotta go talk to my Medical caontrol Doc.

I Watched too many episodes of "Emergency" as a kid.

OK, we got him on O2, and immobilizied. Since he can't remember the medication names he is on I'll recite some beta- blocker names for him to see if any are familiar and put him on ECG. What does he and the ECG say?

Have we run out of quality EMS topics?
Beagle189 replied to PRPGfirerescuetech's topic in General EMS Discussion
I fear we may have PRPG. I've noticed the same thing. By the why I LOVE Viagra. -
I would stay in. Don't care about the lights (Truthfully), Don't care about patches or pins etc. Don't care about the uniforms as long as my employer pays for the clothes I ruin at work. Just let me do pt care and have aggressive protocols.

Man! 4 pages and so much drama over 1 question. I love it when I'm Right!

This show may be dramatic. It may be well written w/ exciting interaction between characters. It may do well. BUT it still pisses me off that they take my profession and show the unprofessional side w/ a paramedic that has issues. I know "RESCUE ME" did well initially but I get tired of seeing real life problems w/ us supposed heros/public servants. Unfortunately a lot of the public does believe what the see on T.V. as real. And yes we do have "Cowboys, Renegades, Drunks, Jerks, and downright A-holes in EMS/Fire. I have to fight those unprofessional images that the public has more than I like. Just my 2 cents.
