  1. So, I seriously want/need to lose about another 20 lbs. What I've heard is that the last 10 are the hardest to lose...so should I set my sights for 30 lbs?
  2. I'm glad you like. Now...post something really "meaty"!
  3. In the program that I attended, you had to have your EMT prior to starting the program because that much of the education was not covered. And, since the college offered all three levels (basic, intermediate, paramedic), you could take the portions you wanted and stop or restart as you wished. Offered some flexibility for a day course.
  4. Did I miss it? How did this rumor get started in the first place? I mean...I've seen this in multiple locations...
  5. Occasionally, we will see interesting cases show up during group call reviews for just that. When my old captain was still around, she would bring those types of cases and run scenarios with each of her crews so we could learn from others. Today, not so much. My lessons learned are just mine. I miss the old days...
  6. I truly believe that the experience will take over the younger generation as long as you can pass whatever physical ability (agility) test is before you.
  7. Would love to get together for lunch or coffee...and we can talk about everyone else. ha ha ha
  8. I totally agree that it would be wonderful if we could get good, timely information back from the hospitals. I am fairly pleased to say that for our local facilities, we can get decent feedback (but we have to call) if we catch the right person on a good day. Sometimes, we aren't so lucky. Most of the time, though, I will ask permission from the receiving nurse if I can call later to get an update and dx on the patient. That usually seems to work. Any patient that is flown gets a call from our assistant director to the hospital for followup - as well as most who go direct to the big city. This helps us to determine the validity of the decision to bypass our local.
  9. It is very cool to see so many who are taking care of their well being. I personally haven't gotten in to a good routine as far as the exercise goes but I am pleased as punch to say that over the last few years, I have dropped over 60 lbs - 6 sizes and most of my boobs. I officially have a prior hx of obesity, high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. Don't drink...don't smoke...but still sneak a sweet treat now and then. As of this morning compared to January 1st of this year...I have maintained my weight loss, not having gained (or lost) a pound. In school, we had a to take 2 semesters of weight training to graduate. Since then, I have a gym membership which does nothing more than lighten my wallet each month. And, I was "running/walking" with my husband, but I'm finding issues with my joints that has put a hinder to that. Old age sucks.
  10. www.ems-ce.com I like it, but it's also the only one I've used.
  11. Cute. Then I go back to my post (see above) that reads something to the effect, "emesis bag...duct tape...and a good imagination".
  12. Yes, DFIB. But I have to question the portability of the toilet.
  13. Thanks, Craig. Currently looking at maybe May/June, but might consider the September/October time frame as well.
  14. You "talk" a lot...but do you actually practice getting off the bunker gear in this type of emergency? I would have no clue on how to begin taking off the mask or such. As EMS only (and not part of fire), I pity the FF I am trying to save. **edited to remove redundancy
  15. No, sir. Don't believe either of you are kidding. HOWEVER...I'm trying to figure out the best time to travel based on weather/mosquitos and my slightly aging parents. Being from Texas, I'm less concerned about the varmints. Heck far...we've got ourselves some varmints here ourselves. And, bite my butt and call me Sally if the varmints don't get you...well, the cedar will. Okay - so when is the weather just a tad bit "Spring like" as I might be accustomed to? Hubby doesn't like it too hot...Dad doesn't like it too cold...and Mom can't stand the mosquitos. We'll adjust our "to do" list based on the time of the year.
  16. Not suggesting that a Narcan neb is superior...just an alternative to help minimize the amount delivered to ensure "titrate" has been met.
  17. Didn't realize I was in the midst of such comedians. giggle
  18. http://ems12lead.com/2010/01/cardiac-arrest-are-you-ready-to-save-one-of-our-own I am always amazed at what I didn't learn in school.
  19. That's too funny. Oh, you were serious...giggle. You see, I'm probably more of a "just hang out" kind of person. Actually, it would be a group tour thing. So, trying to determine the best weather...not too cool...not too hot...and a low number of mosquitos.
  20. It will be more of the touristy thing...
  21. And I was thinking more along the lines of an emesis bag...duct tape...and a good imagination.
  22. Why not do an inline neb while you are bagging?
  23. Looking at a trip in the next few years to Australia/New Zealand. As we begin our plans, the question comes up as the best time of the year to travel. For the locals, your thoughts? Toni
  24. Because the city included the "." in the hyperlink. Try http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12609650
  25. Well, one study is as follows: http://www.ncbi.nlm....ubmed/12609650 And, what I should have said above? "Since my service does not offer IN as an option, I like this as a plan B." Also, if naloxone is accepted as an ET drug, why would there be concern about a neb treatment? edited to remove the "." from the link.
