Getting a late start in EMS (44 years old).

After being laid off from my first career and no local prospects in the market, I decided to work in EMS. It has always been a secret dream since I grew up watching Emergency. I just never had the guts to jump up and go to school. I decided to jump out there and just do it. It felt right and all of my friends encouraged me.

So far so good. I am struggling a little to adapt to sleep deprivation but other than that I love it. I even enjoy the social work of it all. While some in the industry hate the "BS" calls, I do not mind them. I get paid by the hour to runs calls and treat patients. Each and every call seems to be a learning experience. It may not be an EMS lesson, but it is a lesson none the less. Yes I still have a lot to learn. I tend to believe that the learning will never end. I like the challenge of trying to figure out what is going on with my patient when they can not or do not tell me everything.
