  1. That reminds me of a point that hasn't been covered yet. It makes a difference whether or not they were dead when you arrived. Full arrests that were already gone when you got there will usually affect you differently from those who are looking you straight in the eyes with their final desperation when they crash. Scenario one is pretty mechanical. You never established any relationship with those who were already gone when you arrived, so it is easy to walk away. But when you encounter those who are still alive and you watch them check out, it can hit you a completely different way. There really is no "normal" way to react. Therefore, it is important that you do not try to react in a way you think others expect you to react. That means don't try to be strong like some guy you saw on "Turd Watch." Don't think you have to get all emotionall reflective like some loser on "ER" did. And don't think you must go to some retarded CISD because you heard others talking about it. You have to go with how YOU feel, because YOU are the only one feeling it.
  2. I'd sure like to see what B, C, D, and E were, because I would not choose A. As has already been stated, the PMH does not cause me to run an EKG, because I would have already done that regardless of his PMH. Unless it is just a piss-poorly worded question, I don't think A would be true.
  3. It's not the anger or cockiness that is concerning me here. It is your inability to communicate simple, yet important details in a comprehensible manner that concerns me. You asked an incomplete question, yet you expect a complete answer. Do you not see a problem there? You say you aren't the sort of person who gives all the information you know right away. That is obvious. What we are still wondering is if you EVER intend to give the rest of the information? If not, please let us know now so we can just ignore you from here on out.
  4. Uhhh... just FYI, to keep you from looking like a n00b dork at work, the point of watching "Saved" is to learn what NOT to do. I would not emulate anything they do like they are some sort of role models. You'd be better off spending that hour doing some studying, unless you already know it all. Real world. Focus.
  5. How about, "what is a B splint?" :? And suppose you are in a remote situation, not a transporting unit, and awaiting a helo from 20 minutes away? Now what do you do? Traction or no traction?
  6. You sure preempted everybody with that one!! Before you hire anybody else, hire two lawyers. Hire both a corporate law attorney and a medical attorney. And, of course, if you can't afford two good lawyers, you can't afford to start up an EMS.
  7. The way to remedy that is to not use Internet lingo. Then you will always sound like a normal person. Welcome to The City, but minus 5 for a horrible topic name (as well as for not reading forum rules before posting).
  8. Yeah, I think we ought to charge by the litre. That would be more fair.
  9. LMAO!! So true! Amazing how they never can even remember your name for four years, but they sure don't forget your address for the rest of your life after graduation!
  10. Let's not go down this road again.
  11. It doesn't quite work that way. Really, EMS is the only health profession that works where you progress up from one level to the next. In nursing education, you either choose an Associates level program, or you choose a Bachelors level program. You cannot take half of a Bachelors level program and call it an Associates degree. The Associates program is a condensed program, not half of of a Bachelors degree. After two years of an Associates program, you have covered everything, albeit in lesser detail, and are ready to start practising. After two years of a Bachelors program, you are just now starting to get into the actual Nursing core and have little if any clinical exposure. Look at it this way. There are paramedic schools that last 6 months. There are paramedic schools that last two years. Can a student at the two year school drop out after six months and call himself a Paramedic? So no, she cannot just quit now and call herself an RN.
  12. And the reason that they can enjoy that is because the US keeps them safe. Oh really? Can you substantiate that? Can you quote me how much Canadia has spent on AIDS as compared to the US?
  13. It's called "splitting the difference," and I do it all the time. When doing a dipstick urinalysis, it seems that most every urine I test has a pH that is just less than 6.0, but just greater than 5.0. I chart those as 5.5 because, as in the blood pressure scenario, it is more accurate than choosing the next full step. But yes... there is still a lot of old-school distrust of odd numbers in vital signs. And you will certainly get some eye-rolling over them, especially when they know you took a manual reading. That is quickly fading though as NiBPs become an ubiquitous standard.
  14. Thank you, Sir! I truly can feel the positive energy from the kind thoughts of people like you and your family. We all appreciate it greatly!
  15. I always thought we learned in Vietnam not to put big arse red crosses on helicopters, but apparently not. I also thought we learned not to house all your medical personnel in one place too, but again, apparently not. Those who do not learn from history are destined to repeat it. And we are.
  16. Agree with both of the above. Although, in the US, it really isn't very common for it to be applicable to a Paramedic, who work primarily from written protocols that they are not allowed to stray from. One of the most satisfying things about my current position is that I am given a great deal of latitude with my clinical decision making and can choose from a variety of medications for any given condition, based upon what I feel is best for this particular patient. But yes, that is an extremely dangerous way to go if you are not basing your decisions upon sound, research based evidence.
  17. Group hug!
  18. I'm afraid I'll have to dispute that one. It is extremely rare that my pulse counts come out to an even number. Only if you take it for 15 or 30 seconds does it work out that way. I usually take it for 20 seconds, which will commonly work out to an odd number. And if it is irregular, I take it for a full minute, again commonly resulting in an odd number.
  19. I think my head is going to explode. :? I'd sure like to see that interim test that had the 100 percent failure rate though! I wonder, was it really that hard of a test, or just a bad test?
  20. Sorry, can't help you there. I thought you were going to ask to borrow my truck.
  21. So long as you are current, there is probably little chance that you would have to go back to school, except maybe in those states that require a degree (if you don't already have one). Probably the worst you will face in most states would be a 1 to 3 month long bureaucracy of giving them more and more paperwork and money until they finally either give you reciprocity, or in some states, simply allow you to take their test. As Mike says, this is going to be very specific to both the state you are petitioning and your educational background, so you will need to contact those states' EMS office to be certain what will apply to you. Best of luck!
  22. Well, not that I think anything you have to say around here bears any credibility, or even deserves a reply, but... admittedly I was not absolutely clear in the intent of what I was saying, so I'll follow up. I was not implying that she was shaming the members of her profession. I was saying factually that if she continues down this road, she will shame herself, her profession, and the professionals that serve it. If I thought she was currently a shame to the profession, the only advice I would have given her would be to get out. I gave her the ONLY piece of advice that will save her career. Without that one first step, nothing else she does will matter.
  23. Sure, if by "complete" you mean completely unintelligible. So answer the question. Can't do WHAT??? What specific action did your stuporvisor tell you that you could not do?
