  1. The fact remains that you are generalizing a group of people based upon personal perceptions. Prejudice. On the other hand, I am stating only opinion about one man based upon his own personal history. That makes you the bigot.
  2. 1. Don't buy anything you haven't actually worn on your own foot first. 2. Nothing is more important than fit and feel. Forget about looking for specific name brands. Buy what feels best on YOUR foot for the price you want to pay. NOTHING is more important or even worth considering.
  3. This sort of thing is typical of the sort of drama I have encountered from most every Oregon medic I have had the displeasure to work with over the years. A bunch of them came carpetbagging in Texas back in the 80's and quickly earned reputations as prima donas who thought they were smarter than everybody else and looked down their noses on anybody who was not also from Oregon. Luckily, most of them quickly moved on.
  4. Nine-fifty an hour is $228/day. Nearly $28k/year. It's on par with the DFW area pay, and a damn sight more than what an EMT-B is worth. Especially with bennies. Out of curiosity, what type of service are they providing? Since this is the "off the road" forum, I assume they are doing some type of clinical work?
  5. Nice. I wish my agencies had bullet-proof radios. Cheap crap they buy isn't even waterproof! :?
  6. They are all pretty much covered in this Tactical forum, where the same question is frequently asked. Check out previous topics.
  7. So, if he is only oriented to person, place and time, but not event, what is that? x2½?
  8. Minus 5 for posting ALS topic in BLS forum.
  9. Pathologists are still fighting over whether JFK's wounds were entry or exit, 43 years after the fact. Obviously, it is not an exact science. Interesting? Sure, but don't get too caught up in it when it really doesn't make any difference.
  10. Can you explain how your bias and prejudice is any better than racism?
  11. Asys, are there any decent basics in NYC since you finished medic school?
  12. Nah... you're right. I'm just the eternal optimist. :?
  13. Skip, that is the first thing you have ever said here that I even partially disagreed with. Why should anybody "make do?" Why shouldn't they make the responsible government officials do the right thing and provide service in line with the the 21st century standards of care? I know you are too smart to believe that they can't afford paramedics or training. It is all these people who are inclined to just accept the $hitty state of things as they are that perpetuate poor standards. As for dual-medic units being a dream, put down the crack pipe, Buddah. It has been the standard in North Texas for over two decades. Ever notice there are three qualified pilots on board every airliner? How about we get rid of two of them? After all, it only takes one, right? Just replace the first officer and flight engineer with more stewardesses. I can't see that being a problem, can you?
  14. Good luck to both of you. With any luck, you'll be hired and back on the Internet bitching about how bad it sucks just like every other FDNY EMT very soon! Be careful what you wish for!
  15. LMAO!! Compared to whom? How'd you score on NR? Oooooh! That's right, you didn't take NR.
  16. I'll say it and stand by it. Both unethical and immoral. Had he lived much longer, he would have been exposed for the charlatan he was. Luckily, his death spared him the disgrace. So anyhow, I am disappointed that everybody seems to have ignored the obvious question. Is that chick hott?
  17. Devin, you have to admit that a simple plane crash is a little different from biological attack or thermonuclear Armageddon. I would speculate that the turnout for the latter events would not be quite as impressive.
  18. Ah... Yeah, I just searched "wilderness." Came up with full page of posts, but only those three that were topics specific to your question. I remember them because I too had a similar question. Anyhow, too bad the guy who was most knowledgeable about WEMT matters got himself banned from the board last year. SPELL CHECKED: One error corrected. :?
  19. Yes. But it darn sure didn't come from paramedic or EMT school. It came from nursing school and years of hospital practice. SPELL CHECKED: No errors found. 8)
  20. Benanzo has definitely recognized a chink in the armour of the almighty Medic One system. Sounds like they get so much smoke blown up their own asses, that their medics believe their own hype. Sounds like a system that coasts by on past glory without really maintaining any of the progressive greatness they were once known for. Reminds me of the paramedic schools that continuously tell their students that they are the best school in the state, and they graduate with attitudes that are unbearable, when the fact is they aren't any better than any other school. I don't care if Medic One staffs its ambos with board certified trauma surgeons. The system itself appears to have serious operational flaws that render its effectiveness and professionalism extremely dubious. SPELL CHECKED: No errors found. 8)
  21. Careful, VS. I think she may be on this board. SPELL CHECKED: No errors found. 8)
  22. Just curious... does anybody's agency actually have a written policy or protocol that states all patients are to be NPO? Or is this simply being assumed by individual medics? SPELL CHECKED: No errors found. 8)
  23. Protective gear is a non-factor if the fireman is working on the ambulance. Anyhow, you completely misread my statement. I'm not saying there are no firemen capable of being good medics. I am saying that making the practice of emergency medicine a "side job" instead of a primary profession is a horrible idea. That is indisputable. Both functions are important enough that they should receive the full attention and devotion of its practitioners. And the same thing applies to Secret Service agents. 24. That works for me, so long as both partners understand the procedure. I have found it a lot easier to break basics of the habit of strapping the pillow altogether than I have getting them to stop strapping it tightly. Full steps are easier to take than half-steps. If they strap it down, their instinct keeps telling them to do it tightly, so to greatly simplify it, we just don't strap it at all. But hey, whatever works for you. So long as you are actually thinking things through instead of just doing what everybody else does or what you've always done, you're ahead of the game. The ones I REALLY hate are the ones who want to cross-strap the pillow down with both straps. SPELL CHECKED: No errors found. 8)
  25. Minus five for not using the search function. http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph...ight=wilderness http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph...ight=wilderness http://www.emtcity.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.ph...ight=wilderness SPELL CHECKED: No errors found. 8)
