  1. Brian Did you say Student at 41, hell you have a lot of time to do more learning. Glad to hear you are starting school, I became an EMT-B at 60 wish I started a lot earlier but there were things going on. Not complaining at all. Just pay strict attention, listen, take a few notes and mostly practice, practice, practice! Keep coming back to these boards and even throw questions over to here. There are some really experienced people that will answer questions or let you bounce ideas off them. As Kim said above, Keep us up to date on your progress..
  2. WOW!!!!! Some very iinteresting reading. Never heard it expressed this way before, I will also love to cut and paste and send it upward!! I also echo Dwayne EMTP, in the question of sharing.

Read it several times and still loved the joke, we do need more sick ones like that!!!!!
  4. Hey John, Good to hear you and your bride are part of the best branch of the military. Of course I will catch some ribbing about that!! I was AD for 11 years and went on to the Air National Guard an served another 15 years. So I am a happliy retired E7. Like paramedicmike said, don't spend money, you don't have to. Whatever company you get to work with will either provide you with the right equipment or tell you what you need to get. Did you sign up with anyone as a vollie, yet? If possible do that now and also sign up for classes as PM pointed out. Keep us posted on your progress and stay on these boards. There is a lot of knowledge and wisdom here..
  5. Still love to watch the reruns of Andy Griffith Show and Matlock!!
  6. I was going to send you some smartass response, but I saw where you were from. I understand perfectly. Hope you don't have to use that hose, and you have a good fourth!!
  7. Big holiday here in the states, just curious about what folks are doing besides standby!!
  8. What terms are you looking for? The laugh ones sound great!!!!
  9. Happy Canada Day to my friends from the north!!!!!! Pardon my ignorance, but I am always willing to learn, is "Albertobianuckistanada" a real name?
  10. Welcome Sandstorm,
  11. OUTSTANDING!! Hang in there! Welcome to the boards, stick around and get to read some real words of wisdom from the writers on these posts.. Continued good luck in the field....
  12. I am hoping the final copy contains everything, in detail of what you listed in your last post. May I suggest you post it here before you submit it? There are folks on these boards who will be able to give you constructive recommendations before you send it. Please understand this is just my humble opinion based on posts that I have read from some of the people I have come to respect. Thanks
  13. Hey there, Definitely followup with a professional that you can confide in, it does work!! Glad to hear you are on this side of that issue and hope all works out for you, hang in there and keep in touch. Just my .25
  14. "That said when I die I would hope they would not embarrass my memory by giving me honors that have neither been earned nor deserved." They most likely won't do that!!! But they will come together out of love, at the loss of a member of the "family" and respect for the deeds you have done! True honors are not ones that have to be fabricated, but are etched on the hearts of the ones you leave behind. Now it's just my .50 worth.
  15. "You called us for THIS?" YUP!!! I know what you mean. We got called for a pt who got hurt 2 weeks prior, and the injury site felt sore..... Got on his cell phone as soon as we got rolling to the hosp.
  16. Sounds like you did!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to Go! I hear it is a bear of a test...
  17. Hi I'm Xxxxx from Medford volunteer ambulance, you're in luck we finished our coffee break!! OK, it's something I wish I could get away with saying.. Usually it's I'm Xxxxx, from Medford Volunteer Ambulance, what happened? (while I am checking A-B-C). This also gives me a hint about a patent airway and A&O and lets the patient give me their version of things.
  18. Hate to be rude-n-crude but regardless of the situation between the EMS and FD, the emt-b was operationg outside his scope of responsibility. One question, where was the medic that this was allowed to happen. Did the medic authorize this procedure, if so than he should also be disiplined. You can't give an order that you know violates protocols. I have a hard time believing (and I can be wrong), that the medic didn't know it was happening. I guess we will have to see how this actually plays out.
  19. Please do post the final copy, looking forward to reading it.. I was following the posts, but saw I couldn't add much to what Kiwi said.
  20. I wouldn't call it desparation for heros, but I have to acknowledge the fact that this person volunteered the time to be trained and made themself available to support the rest of the team if the need arose. Maybe there were no incidents during this person's shifts, (which does happen),but he or she volunteered for other events in the firehouse that truly supported the mission. Fire, EMS, and LEOs are essentially "families". They look out for each other on and sometimes off duty. I don't know how close the members of this ageny are, but they seem quite tight. Just my .25
  21. In spite of no license, ya just hate to see that driving talent go to waste
  22. Welcome, btw where is this small rural FD? (If you can freely say)
  23. Sounds like some very serious and mature thinking in this process. You deserve the compliments. Keep it up..
  24. I have to admit, I think you made a wise choice, although I did not know switching was an option. Hopefully all or a majority of your credites will be able to follow you. Will the new school let you "challenge or test out" of courses? I write training courses that are used on line, but ther are definitely some courses that should not be taught on line. There are courses that require the interactions of students with each other and with instructors all in real time and I think medical courses fit that bill. Good Luck in your new program..
  25. Congratulations, wishing you nothing but the best!!!!!!
