Lucky you; the equipment didn't shoot out and hit other drivers or passerbys... LOL....

I think we can all agree that the EMS Profession can be better. You've encountered people who you just shake your head; wonder how did that person become an EMT-B/I/P. We had a fellow student who asked the most retarded question. We had partners who we've loathed; not because they were a bad provider but they were a bad person or not that they are a bad person but they were a bad Provider. Just because you're an EMS Provider it doesn't make you a good Provider. It takes years of experience; some bad and some good. Your upbringing, education, personality, and social function will dictate the Provider you'll be. Some people do this for various reasons but many do it for the wrong reasons. Just because they are fellow Providers; it doesn't make them right. Remember that all patients are clients; healthcare is a business (unfortunately); clients make businesses thrive. The issue with the 2 exemplars were the Providers didn't complete a Call Report. 2 things that Providers perform on a daily basis is NOT covered in class are: PCR WRITING and DRIVING AN AMBULANCE Not covered in depth. That's the issue....

Cancer doesn't discriminate. Its a horrible disease and a horrible death for ones who's cancer has metastisized... EMS needs to be introduced to Pallative and Hospice Care. Godspeed....

Its intrusive; I got it but the security measures in Airports or in other areas are just to make the public feel like the govt is doing something against terrorism. Like in the case of the AMR Paramedic who was critically injured at the SFG at LAD game; he was a SFG fan the guys who beat him were LAD fans. The owner wants to pay LAPD's OT to have more uniforms in the venues. Its a false sense of security. People will still get drunk and hurt but it makes people feel safer. If someone was to do something heinous; they will succeed regardless of security and police... Hence, unsolved crimes... All the best...

The Guys who give all emts a bad name
NYCEMS9115 replied to ColinW's topic in General EMS Discussion
Its unfortunate but EMS is not getting better; its Advancement in Prehospital Care is great but the Provider has regressed. Look at our Grammar and High School Education; many can't read, write, or do math at grade level. Truants get promoted to the next grade. Everyone is sexting, BBM'ing, poking, pinging, & tweeting instead of studying. We will not become better as a society until we correct the youths but there's so many problems when you tell it like it is. Its not PC to do that. So that obnoxious guy; just stay clear from him; he'll burn himself... All the best... -
Yes, as EMS/PHC we are "PRACTITIONERS." We provide Emergency Prehospital Care. We have knowledge in the Science of Medicine. We can read ECG rhythms, start IVs, intubation, and administer medications. Like I tell my employees; that's nice but documentation is paramount. It may be the only thing that will protect you. Not doing a Call Report like in the examples are not standard of care. The release in the 2y/o's case was not signed by the parent. The asthmatic woman; no Call Report was generated. That's lazy. If you can just tell the patient that they don't need an ambulance; then that's great. In NYS, you can't. So, in my Region I can't tell the patient they don't need an ambulance. Plus, who am I? I'm a Paramedic, where in NYS you don't need a HS/GED to be a EMT. You can have a criminal record. Paramedics don't need a college degree. Some finish Paramedic School in 5months. What I'm saying is; our training might be in depth because we tell ourselves that but the curriculum disputes that. Well in NYS, it does.

Its not about transporting everyone but if the patient wants to go to the ER; you take them to the ER. Your job isn't to make them refuse or tell them that they don't need an ambulance.

No PCR or Call Reports were done.....

http://www.emsworld.com/print/EMS-World/Meet-the-EMS-Myth-Buster/1$16574 I've been proposing for better education for the EMT-B/I/P's in NYS. I've asked for more hours in the EMT-B and more rotations (one is not enough). I've asked that they merge the EMT-I85 to the EMT-I99. I've asked that the Paramedic will only be available as an Associate Degree; no certificate courses.?

Marketing Your Ambulance Service ?
NYCEMS9115 replied to crotchitymedic1986's topic in General EMS Discussion
You can bring food and office supplies to the Nursing, Support Staff, and Practitioners but ultimately its not them who make the real decisions; they call vendors who are approved by administration. Most executives will not meet you without an appt; so spur of the moment visits is frowned upon. If your too aggressive with the "MARKETING" you may lost the few calls you get out of there. There are too many people you must "MARKET" to; in a hospital. Especially, if its a big hospital with other hospitals it controls. Many VPs to "MARKET" to. Many Directors to "MARKET" to. Many Administrators to "MARKET" to. Many Managers to "MARKET" to. Many Clerical Staff to "MARKET" to. Many Nurses to "MARKET" to. Many Doctors to "MARKET" to. Too many to "MARKET" to. There's a fine line between marketing and harassment. Example. This Nursing Home I service; we were their only Ambulance Provider; except for 911; started to use another service. They were bigger but had the reputation to be late. Many other facilities called us after waiting hours for them. Anyhow, last Nurse's Week, I personally trained all their Nurses and Aides (100+) in CPR, gave them breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the week. We've always send them office supplies; do free trips for them, and last minute add-ons. Where did that get us? Nowhere, because the owner of the new service they're using is friends with the owner of the NH. Marketing seldom means anything for the upper class. -

http://www.respiratorytherapy.net/training/ Unlike Paramedics; RTs programs are only available as a Degree Program (AS, BS, and MS). So, we (EMS) can't compare. We (EMS) need to mirror these Practitioner's Educational Requirements. Good luck as a RT; prosperous career... Paramedics should be only available as a Degree Program (AS, BS, and MS).

The brown stuff first then the wet clear stuff to clean up the brown stuff. You may have to repeat this depending on the cleanliness of the stickee...

Is the person next to you radioactive?
NYCEMS9115 replied to Richard B the EMT's topic in General EMS Discussion
It is generally safe so as long as the radioactive iodine recipient is not near a child or pregnant women. Clothes washing together are fine as long as the person is not a sweater. Sleeping in another room is best. Eat at different times or in separate locations. Distance is best and less time interaction is key. Its not a big deal. Take a week off. -

Money rules. You give $$$ they'll call you more. -
Its very interesting. I hope to see this in NYS...

At least you recognized it. Many EMS providers can fall into the "Everything is BS" attitude. My saying has always been since day one, "Its better to assume its something when its nothing than to assume its nothing when its something." Another one is, "Its better to have and not need than need and not have." All the best...

Then maybe he should have been terminated. Money under the table is one of the worst things you can do when you're holding a position of authority which is funded by public funds... He's still a Chief; just not Chief of EMS...
