Prerequisites to a Healthcare oriented Undergraduate Degree is a direction you can go; if you do not have a BS. In College you can decide which Discipline you want to get involved with. The Associates can be another alternative if money is an issued or the Senior College is quite a travel. There are many Adult centered College Programs you can partake; if you have the ability to study on your own... All of the prior advice given are excellent posts...

Dwayne is right... There's a lot of great threads on the City. All City Members are educated and experienced in their own regard. The discussions can get really heated. However, it can be fun and annoying at the same time. I've only been on the site for several months and many of these members I may disagree with but they do open my eyes to another perspective.... EMS Providers do not get the recognition. We are known as Ambulance Drivers, when only one person drives. Ultimately, EMS/PHC are provider of transportation for patients. The care we can provide is not well understood by laypersons. It could be the lack of Public Awareness, limited EMS Programs at the College Level, or limited Government backing. All of us have many reasons we decided to get into EMS/PHC. Some of us do this for the right reasons. Respect and Recognition is definitely not one of them... Good luck in the Spring... I asked Chief Kirkwood about the APP through an email. He quickly replied with: "Advanced Practice Paramedic is a local program - something that we designed to meet the unique needs of our community. While we will share anything that we do with anybody, I personally hope that it never becomes a state certification, or anything like it, because the needs of every community are so very different. This is a place for state EMS regulations to "get off the back" of the local community and let us innovate..... We select experienced medics who are excellent clinicians, who have excellent customer service skills, and we put them through a 300 hour training program that is focused on working with and building relationships with public health, mental health crisis, detox, crisis intervention team police officers, and of course on the things we want them to do to mitigate falls, help families of deceased, care for diabetics, etc. I hope that helps. As for Free Speech. We all exercise it without consequences. I never have, unlike others, insult people and tell them to shut up. Every one is entitle to their opinion. I just believe there's a time to watch Ron Jeremey and Katie Morgan. Alphabet recited in the library is from A to Z, not XXX. That is what I'm saying. Crazies can attend College. He did bring a gun to College. The Police should have been called but the College didn't. They expelled him. As for Amendments of the US Constitution, regulating firearms is not against the US Constitution. We're not our fore-fathers. We do not wear white wigs, ride horses as our only mode of transportation, use feather pens, or use muskets. Regulation is what needs to happen in the 50 states in regards to firearms. Need a license for all firearms... That's all. You don't succeed in get a license, no firearms. What is so unconstitutional about that? So, do not say that I'm trying to change the Constitution. Who am I to even suggest that? Regulation is not Unconstitutional. They've been regulating firearms for years. I had a FBI background check to buy my shottie as the shop. I had to fill out paperwork, a lot of it. Interviewed with the Sheriff's Office. I was fingerprinted. I needed letters of recommendation. Another background check. Attend a firearm safety class. All this to get a gun permit. That took 6 months. This wasn't Unconstitutional. It was the procedure, regulation.

I am asking questions on what else could have been done. I wasn't there; I'm not crucifying them. I think I know it wasn't NYC. As I have mentioned in other threads. I am not questioning EMS outside the Hudson Valley and NYC. Since, I have never experienced EMS there. Scene Safety is a SOP in EMS in the US. That was my point. The picture shows a key in the lock and a damaged door due to forced entry. The reporter wrote there was an apartment manager there. These are the "facts" as written in the article. Of course it is third party. I wasn't there. As for hearing impaired; I know that. I was just throwing a little humor. Conjecture is what this is because I wasn't there. I am reflecting what I read. They reported that the Apartment Manager was there. So, why are they busting in? Didn't the Manager have a key? The EMS Crew was given by Dispatch to gain entry with force. I guess you can have a gun legally and be hearing impaired. I know in NYS, all firearms must be stored in a locked safe and unloaded. Having it under the pillow is a fine in NYS... I did love Alphabet Soup and Alphabet Cereal as a kid. The Alphabet Programs out there are way out of control like a bull running through the streets of Espana. There's so much learning we all must do. I am all for learning but Programs are not readily available for us. Hmmmm, like the CCEMTP and the BS in Paramedics. I can easily get the non required ABC Certifications like PHTLS, PEPP, AMLS, BDLS/ADLS, HAZMAT, PEARS, NRP, & among others but they are $200+ a pop. If they expand the SOP for Paramedics; then let's go. That being said; Obamacare, Entitlement Programs, and HMOs will cut drastically on services for patients and reimbursements for rendered services. They will continue to battle this in the Senate and the House; all for the sake of Party control come 2012. The APP will save $ on Hospital costs but will it keep the Ambulances afloat? Of course this is all conjecture...

Volunteer Ambulance Service are lacking Volunteers. They provide Ambulances in rural areas with no EMS or ALS or Hospital nearby. That being said, people volunteer spare time; not work, school, or family time. There are over 8700 hours in a year, I think you would be able to sacrifice some hours for them but not your life, as they have suggested.

With Four months to go, you should know where you stand in the Program. This appears to be constructive criticism from your Nursing Professor. Yes, Academia ask students for a lot of things that for the Care of Patients it is unnecessary to know but that is why it is School. Did you take the Nursing Class on the Role of Nursing Care? The Alphabet Organizations and what each one were responsible for. All the various Nurses. Who help propel Nursing. The Nursing Timeline and all it's high points. This was irrelevant for the Care of the Patient but relevant to Nursing. I guess... Keep your chin up Tim... Get through the Program and pass the NCLEX. Just returning the favor. I wasn't quoted but it was obvious it was directed towards me. So that is why I did that. The saying should be, "Do onto others who've done onto you." However, I have no issues with anyone, this is all talk, nothing more.
