  1. Still smells fishy to me.
  2. They might pay the salary, or a fee, but its still tax supported if its an FD. Consider: Salary of workers Fuel Wear on Vehicle Supplies O2 Secondary coverage if truck is on IFT and resources are all used Admin fees Billing fees Are they going to sit down, and calculate the exact costs of these items and charge that, and also NOT direct tax money to the ambulance service?
  3. They won't do it meaner.... They don't want to back up anything with facts or figures, just "thats how its always been done." Why do you think we broke away 3 centuries ago?
  4. And thats worth tax money how?
  5. I only skimmed. Didn't really read, but this caught my eye: Some of the revenue generated would come through Aspirus Health Care. Williams said Aspirus wants to contract with his department for transports, primarily from Rhinelander to Wausau. Am I interpreting that correctly, a fire department wants to take over EMS, AND take IFT's?
  6. Quiznos would be very hard to eat in a truck. At least the sammich I like are.
  7. What if we all lived by the Laws of Robotics? A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law Think about that for a couple of days and I will get back to you.

    DFD = FAIL

"Firefighters say they thought the home was vacant when it caught on fire on Feb. 20. They said the strength of the fire and a fallen utility pole prevented them from entering the burning house. " Sounds like, fire conditions were bad enough when they arrived that interior wasn't an option. That doesn't preclude a secondary search for bodies during and after the investigation. I don't want to Monday Morning QB these guys, but something did go wrong. Assuming what they told the media though, the victim wouldn't be viable when they did arrive. That makes sense seeing that it is a vacant structure, those usually have fire through the roof and windows before someone call it in, just because no one notices it.
  9. +1 That did nothing but make you look like a Grade A Jackass, cynical. And not the kind people respect either. Try spending some time, or living for a few years, or being the son of an "old and senile" man. Then come back and tell us what you learned. The more I read your comment the more amazed I get that a so called "professional" EMS worker would say something like that, ESPECIALLY in a public forum. Probably a good thing you don't put what town you work in, I am sure your populus would LOVE to read statements like that coming from one of their Ambulance Drivers.
  10. Are you serious? Do you have a little league in town? Popcorn basketball? Where do they get their shirts from? Come on.... Three Screen Printed T-Shirts: $30 Two Pair Galls BDU's: $60 One Pair Galls Boots: $50 Thats for a grand total of $140 dollars. Presenting a professional image isn't worth $140 every year or two?
  11. Awesome. Keep it up, there are plenty of people here to encorage, inspire, mis-trear, and educate you. Quite a few from Indiana on here as well if you have any questions about the State side of things. Let us know how school goes for you. I am up in Madison County. Plenty of EMT and Medic jobs in the metro area. I woudlnt say plenty of pay though, unless you were willing to do fire, which if that is the case you only have 2 years to get hired somewere per state law. Any questions just ask around!
  12. Can we transport zombie victims in it?
  13. I did just read an article on the merits of buying injectibles from someone off the street.
  14. I'm surprised no one from here has gone over to impart wisdom on them.
  15. Indiana EMS commission does issue a "Driver" certification with your PSID record, but it is not required to drive an ambulance.
  16. Reciprocity. If the state you are moving to requires it. (Thanks to spenac below for my edit, I was trying to be a man of few words.
  17. Indy, Indy? Or Suburb Indy?
  18. Wow. Just wow. I can not believe I read this coming from a professional.
  19. The newsies changed it to EMT-IV from EMT-4. Hah. Glad they pay attention to their technical editing.
  20. I can't say this is a hard set fast rule. It depends on the person. We try to discourage anyone from riding in with us. However, we also base our decisions on allowing it, on the situation and person. Most of the time, it is usually an older spouse, who has a ride home, or a parent. Even then, they sit in the front seat, divider door is closed, and the ambulance doesn't go in gear until the seatbelt is buckled. Is someone shows any hint of emotional distress, or it is a distressing call, no ride if I am on the truck, driving or EMT.
  21. But it looks really really pretty. Oh and it takes really pretty pictures too.
